Sea Kayaking the Caves Coast - Mid Wales.

Quality Caves, is what this trip was all about. If you like Sea Caves, this is the Coast. Matt had travelled down Friday, and paddled Cwmtydu to New Quay (Welsh New Quay) I set off Saturday night, and met him at Aberporth, Sunday morning. He didn't feel like ripping any trees up, and I had a very stiff neck, and shoulder (Getting old) so I too, wanted any easy relaxing first trip of 2013. Aberporth to Mwnt (Pron. Moont) it was then, except we never quite made it to Mwnt, stopping about 1 mile short. We turned back early, because we felt the North-Easterly wind was picking up, and it would've been a slog all the way back, into wind AND tide. As it happened, the wind died down a lot, but we were never going to complain about that. Heading East from Aberporth, you pass DERA (Defence Research & Evaluation Agency) Aberporth, which is basically a MOD Rocket testing facility, and therefore off limits to Joe Public. In fact this whole stretch of coast has no road access until Mwnt, but there is the Coastal Path. So the upshot of all this is, it's a very quiet stretch of coast, were encounters with other people are slim, just maybe a few up on the Coastal Path. The coastline here is wonderfully unspoilt, and when we rounded the headland that DERA is situated, and got sheltered from the icy wind, it was really pleasant. If you look on Google Earth, just east of DERA it's called Seal Cove, this is where the little waterfall was, and the cave where we had lunch. This was a really special little place, so much better for being out of that nagging wind, and another of the Quality Caves to add to the list. I will number them all throughout the trip, and you will see, there are lots to choose from.
