This is a great write-up dealing with the buildup of US drone warfare. Really, this issue is not being discussed enough in most media circles.

This is not a book detailing the history or future of unmanned aviation. It barely rises above a screed found on some conspiracy theory rampant blog. The authors do not have any firsthand knowledge of the subject they write about nor have they talked to anyone who works within the UAS community. They grab up a hand full of papers on UAS operations and a few accident reports, then make up disjointed "evil government" paranoid conclusions. My own personal interpretation of this book is to promote the authors silly website

If you are looking for a book on the history and future of UAS, try these instead.

WIRE FOR WAR by P.W. Singer. It's a wee bit dated, some of the systems described have been cancelled, but still a good, well researched and very heavy source of information. Mr. Singer even explores the implications of UAS operations and their limitations.

Peter Bergen's THE LONGEST WAR, has some very good information on UAS and their use in counter terror operations.

Rachel Madow's DRIFT: THE UNMOORING OF AMERICAN MILITARY POWER, has a small bit of information on UAS in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Generally it is a very good read. (no one can accuse Ms. Madow of being a military or UAS cheerleade) It is a fun read aswell.

This book.... Too silly

As if I needed convincing. Just another chapter in our nasty history of killing by remote means. And when these nasty weapons fail, we lose the Wars we have started as we should. Read it.

Great (in an awful way) information about a subject not well understood by, oh, 99.99999% of the population (including me). We can choose to accept what we're told as truth, which it is, SORT OF, but take away the picture of the real situation that we're fed by the a) government b) press c) politicians d) et. al. and there's a "lot left over". That is, we're given a partial view of a sliver of the truth and told that's all there is to it. Then we spend time arguing whether that partial story is to our liking or not. The REAL story is MUCH more complicated, and MUCH different than the public version, and is, really, the ONLY one that "counts". If EVERYBODY knew what was really happening, the discussion might take a completely different turn, and decisions by OUR "elected officials" COULD be very different (or we'd have different "elected officials", in an ideal world). We should ALL read this book and then decide if this is the world we want.

I am an avid reader of Tom Englehart - his work is trenchant, timely and well reasoned. this book is a remarkable exception - full of redundancy and rhetoric. many facts but poorly written. For a man noted as an editor, he needs one badly!

The author is definitely in the anti-drone camp, and spends way too much time making movie references and not enough on the history of drone development, which he totally skipped. Don't waste your money.

Poorly written. The pages ooze paranoia. Poorly thought out points. Book looks cheap, no original information. Just typical internet rumors put into book form. Save your money, buy a book that wasn't published in someone's garage!

The book's title is incorrect. The title should be "Nick and Tom's opinion of Military UAVs .... and we don't like them". I expected an objective 'history' and the book is a collection of very biased commentary surrounding why UAV's a are bad. Also, the commentary and stories repeat themselves thru out the book.
