The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) is the public service broadcaster of the United Kingdom, headquartered at Broadcasting House in London.
The BBC is the world's oldest national broadcasting organisation and the largest broadcaster in the world by number of employees, with over 20,950 staff in total, of whom 16,672 are in public sector broadcasting; including part-time, flexible as well as fixed contract staff, the total number is 35,402.
The BBC is established under a Royal Charter and operates under its Agreement with the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport. Its work is funded principally by an annual television licence fee which is charged to all British households, companies, and organisations using any type of equipment to receive or record live television broadcasts. The fee is set by the British Government, agreed by Parliament, and used to fund the BBC's extensive radio, TV, and online services covering the nations and regions of the UK. From 1 April 2014, it also funds the BBC World Service, launched in 1932, which provides comprehensive TV, radio, and online services in Arabic, and Persian, and broadcasts in 28 languages.

Newshour Extra Today (4/3/2016) - Money for Nothing? - BBC World Service What if governments paid all their citizens a basic income? Whether rich or poor, you would receive the same amount of money, and you would keep it whether you went out to work and received a salary or not. It is an idea that has been around for centuries, but one that has been gaining traction in recent times as welfare payments become ever more complex and expensive to administer. Proponents also argue that it would remove the 'poverty trap' where people are dissuaded from seeking work because they would lose their benefits if they did so. There is also the issue of machines taking over many of the jobs that we all do to earn a living - not just basic manual tasks, but increasingly 'intelligent' work that will in t...
The drop in oil price is not doing something that a lot of people thought that it would do, when it fell that low, which is to create a big stimulus to economic growth. So it’s not succeeded in doing that, and I think that has surprised a lot of people. Nor is it undermining renewables, the investment in renewables is continuing to grow. So two things that people expected to happen, haven’t happened. What I think is happening is that the revenues of a lot of countries that are already in quite unstable, difficult positions, are declining very rapidly. So we are going to see an increase in political tensions as the revenues that were essentially holding states together begin to diminish.

When I first laid my eyes upon you
You were too far away
I decided to get closer to you
This time you have to stay
Simply overcomed by this reaction
It is draining me
I know I can't resist your strange attraction
You're seducing me
Nashira
You draw me nearer when everything is clear
With you I have no fear
No point resisting I am simply giving in
To you my shining Queen
Most people haven't seen you, that's alright
Too preoccupied by their strife
But I love you and I'm staying to the end
This banner of love I sway for you my friend
I travel to you through my magic glass
What else can I do?
Strange emotions as you speak to me this way
Will we ever meet in the flesh one day
Although I know that you are always around
And sometimes hard to find
Confused, but happy, is this what love can do?
And tonight again I'll look for you
Nashira
