William Wrigley, Jr. (September 30, 1861 – January 26, 1932) was an American chewing gum industrialist. He was founder and eponym of the Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company in 1891. He was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wrigley, Jr., is rumored to have co-founded his namesake company with a lesser known Canadian named J.W. Flavelle, who was a close childhood friend of Wrigley, Jr.
Wrigley was born in September 1861, during the Civil War, in Philadelphia.
In 1891, at the age of 29, Wrigley moved from Philadelphia to Chicago. He had $32 to his name and with it he formed a business to sell Wrigley's Scouring Soap. He offered customers small premiums, particularly baking powder, as an incentive to buy his soap. Finding the baking powder was more popular than his soap, Wrigley switched to selling baking powder, and giving his customers two packages of chewing gum for each can of baking powder they purchased. Again, Wrigley found that the premium he offered was more popular than his base product, and his company began to concentrate on the manufacture and sale of chewing gum. In this business, Wrigley made his name and fortune.
Wrigley Field /ˈrɪɡli/ is a baseball park located on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois, United States. It is the home of the Chicago Cubs, one of the city's two Major League Baseball (MLB) franchises.
It was built in 1914 as Weeghman Park for the Chicago Federal League baseball team, the Chicago Whales. The Cubs played their first game at Weeghman Park on April 20, 1916, defeating the Cincinnati Reds 7–6 in eleven innings. In November 1918, Weeghman resigned as team president. Chewing gum magnate William Wrigley, Jr. acquired complete control of the Cubs by 1921. It was called Cubs Park from 1920 through 1926, before officially becoming Wrigley Field for the 1927 season.
Located in the north side community area of Lakeview, Wrigley Field sits on an irregular block bounded by Clark (west) and Addison (south) Streets and Waveland (north) and Sheffield (east) Avenues. Wrigley Field is nicknamed The Friendly Confines, a phrase popularized by "Mr. Cub", Hall of Famer Ernie Banks. The current seating capacity is 42,495. It is the oldest National League ballpark, the second-oldest active major league ballpark (after Fenway Park on April 20, 1912), and the only remaining Federal League park.

The Chicago Cubs are an American professional baseball team located on the North Side of Chicago, Illinois. The Cubs compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a members of the National League (NL) Central division; the team plays its home baseball games at Wrigley Field. The Cubs are also one of two active major league teams based in Chicago; the other is the Chicago White Sox, who are a member of the American League (AL) Central division. The team is currently owned by Thomas S. Ricketts, son of TD Ameritrade founder Joe Ricketts.
The team played its first games in 1876 as a founding member of the National League (NL), eventually becoming known officially as the Chicago Cubs for the 1903 season. Officially, the Cubs are tied for the distinction of being the oldest currently active U.S. professional sports club, along with the Atlanta Braves, which also began play in the NL in 1876 as the Boston Red Stockings (Major League Baseball does not officially recognize the National Association of Professional Base Ball Players as a major league.)

Radio broadcasting during the era of recovery from the Great Depression was a critical factor in that recovery. The early Radio networks were recovering as well. Cash-strapped and low on capital, the networks of the era turned more and more to independent programming producers to meet the Nation's voracious appetite for new and unique Radio entertainment. The mid-1930s found more networks extending their programming around the clock, commencing as early as 5:00 a.m. and broadcasting as late as midnight to 1:00 a.m. in most areas of the country. The increase in demand combined with longer and more regular programming schedules presented even greater opportunities to a growing number of independent transcription houses. Hi, I'm Wrigley! I'm an itty bitty pittie looking for my forever home. I'm about a year and a half old. I'm very social and love adults, children, dogs, and cats. I'm even pretty chill with wildlife, and it is not uncommon for birds, squirrels and butterflies to hangout with me in my foster family’s backyard. I LOVE playing ball and I'm very athletic – I'm pretty proud of my ability to catch a ball mid-air. I also love a good snuggle. I aced my temp test (scored an “A”) at Carson Animal Shelter, and I'm also the proud graduate of Rebecca Mandell’s (positive reinforcement trainer) Basic Manners and AKC Canine Good Citizen classes. Baseball Factory's Matt Lund sits down with 2016 Under Armour All-American, Jack Conlon about being named to this year's All-American Game at Wrigley Field and how inspirational his brothers are to his life.
Police Chaplain the Rev. Richard Washburn told the hundreds in attendance, many of whom were members of area law enforcement agencies, that it was not a time for regret. "I say from experience, regret gets you nowhere," Washburn said. "You cannot make up the past. You can't change what's happened. All you can do is learn from it." He remembered seeing what he called a "mammoth 300-pound man" riding his small police bicycle around the city. "If you ever saw him, if you ever knew him, his face lit up with joy," Washburn said. "He loved what he did. And he loved everybody. He was the type of person who, for lack of a better word, didn't get the whole political thing. He was the same way to everybody. You were almost afraid to ask him what he thought because he would tell you." He told those g...

Happy Easter Higherside Chatters! A most appropriate show for today: When we examine sacred sites scattered around the world, oral traditions passed down through generations and disjointed clues of our fragmented history buried by organized religion, the path to reconnect the dots seems daunting. And without the proper context, putting our past into perspective can appear impossible. Luckily, today's guest, Freddy Silva, has spent his years studying a cornucopia of esoteric traditions from ancient societies ranging from extinct systems of knowledge and initiation rituals to Jesus and crop circles. Silva has written several books including, "The Divine Blueprint" and "First Templar Nation", to help bestow ancient wisdom for modern times. Subscribe to the plus show to hear the extended ep...

This workshop takes as its starting point the psychological and social effects of child poverty. It will critically examine some of the explanations of how deprivation tends to lead to underachievement, and open up some new issues and questions emerging from research. These include ability grouping, community involvement and whether children from poorer neighbourhoods tend to experience more restricted forms of teaching (a 'pedagogy of poverty'). Examples will be provided of innovative schools which are making a difference. Participants will be invited to look at how much we know of children's lives outside of school, including family interests and support, and at how school-based research can be used to raise awareness about the danger of 'pedagogies of poverty'. The workshop rela...

Chicago Cubs Vs. Milwaukee Brewers. Matt Garza was starting off on a bad note giving up 2 runs in the 1st inning. But in the bottom of the 1st Blake Dewitt cut the Brewer lead in half with a solo homerun. But in the top of the 4th Jonathan Lucroy got a RBI single which put the Brewers back on top with a 3-1 lead. In the bottom of the 4th Blake Dewitt stepped at the plate and delivered a 2 run bomb to left center field which tied the game 3-3. For the rest of the game it was all offense for the Cubs. Blake Dewitt was the player of the game with 4 runs and 4/4 for the entire game. Cubs win this one 7-3. My nest video will be the Chicago Bears Vs. New England Patriots/ Gillete Stadium. This was a family vacation that happened to include some baseball. We didn't go looking for it, but in the process of driving around and doing a bunch of random/touristy stuff, we stumbled upon a local baseball tournament in the countryside. We stayed in Havana for five days and Playa Girón for two, did lots of sight-seeing and eating, hung out at the hotel pools, played Scrabble, saw a zillion old cars, checked out a nature reserve called Las Terrazas, toured an organic farm, visited an old coffee plantation, dropped by Ernest Hemingway's house, played with crocodiles, danced badly, went snorkeling, saw a show at the famous Tropicana nightclub, got on each other's nerves (less than usual), and had a ton of laughs in the process. There's even a bit of death-defying GoPro footage. (Slight...

Our first run with the new Meetup group "Phoenix West Valley 4x4 Off Roaders" a great group of Off Roaders. We visited Castle Hot Spring. Historically, the waters were known by the Yavapai and Apaches as medicinal. Once the Apaches were gone, white settlers started accessing the waters. In the late nineteenth century, a surge in tuberculosis patients moved to Arizona. The site soon developed into a hotel for this clientele. During its time as the territorial winter capital, Castle Hot Springs housed the governor and a local jail. It has been reported that the building’s balcony served as a convenient site for hangings. The resort attracted many of America's wealthiest and most well-known families, including the Rockefellers, Wrigley's, Cabot's, and Carnegies. Western author Zane Grey al...
