Folks! is a 1992 dark comedy film, directed by Ted Kotcheff and starring Tom Selleck. The movie's tagline is: "Jon Aldrich is about to come face to face with the most terrifying force known to man... his parents." The film earned a Razzie Award nomination for Selleck as Worst Actor.
Folks! tells the story of Jon Aldrich (Tom Selleck), a successful stockbroker who is living the good life with a wife and kids until his aging father with dementia accidentally burns down his own house. Jon tries to get his sister, Arlene Aldrich (Christine Ebersole) who has two sons of her own but is an irresponsible gold digger, but she won't even open the door. As a result his father Harry Aldrich/Pop (Don Ameche) and his mother Mildred Alrdich (Anne Jackson) have to move in with him and his family. That is the moment that his good life starts going down hill.
The company he works for was apparently doing illegal things which Jon knew nothing of, but no one believes him therefore he loses his job. The problems for Jon continue to mount up as the family becomes broke, his wife Audrey (Wendy Crewson) thinks moves out with the kids, and they lose all their furniture and belongs except their apartment. Harry continues to unintentionally injure Jon, causing him hearing lost, a broken hand, a car runs over his foot, and he manages to lose a testicle.

Different Strokes For Different Folks - 48 Hours 2011 - Quest Film - SOLO
As part of the V48 Hours Furious Filmmaking 2011 competition, I animated a short-film over 2 days. All music was also composed and recorded over that weekend, as was the voice acting. I thought it turned out better than last year's efforts, but would be keen to hear your feedback in the comments! As quest films go, I wanted to avoid making a 'joke film' that mocked the fantasy film staples of the genre... but I also wanted to avoid hoky mysticism too. So, hopefully this film reflects those two key aims. Of course, as part of the V48 Hours competition, it had to incorporate the following elements... As part of the V48 Hours Furious Filmmaking 2011 competition, I animated a short-film over 2 days. All music was also composed and recorded over that weekend, as was the voice acting. I thought it turned out better than last year's efforts, but would be keen to hear your feedback in the comments!
As quest films go, I wanted to avoid making a 'joke film' that mocked the fantasy film staples of the genre... but I also wanted to avoid hoky mysticism too. So, hopefully this film reflects those two key aims.
Of course, as part of the V48 Hours competition, it had to incorporate the following elements...
Compulsory character: Bobby Young, an ex-bully
Compulsory prop: A bit of bent wire
Compulsory genre: Quest Film
Compulsory line of dialogue: "What have you got?"
Compulsory technical element: Freeze-frame

Although he doesn't believe that we will return to horses and buggies, wash boards, and hoop skirts, Salatin believes we will go back in order to go forward, using technology to re-establish historical normalcy. That normalcy will include edible landscapes, domestic larders, pastured livestock, solar driven carbon cycling for fertility, and a visceral relationship with life's fundamentals: food, energy, water, air, soil, fabric, shelter. His unconventional farming practices have drawn attention from the alternative agriculture community especially those interested in sustainable livestock management.
