California state route 1
State Route 1 (SR 1) is a major north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. Highway 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, leading to its designation as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.
SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as Highway 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed further inland. Big Sur is a sparsely populated region of the Central Coast of California where the Santa Lucia Mountains rise abruptly from the Pacific Ocean. The name "Big Sur" is derived from the original Spanish-language "el sur grande", meaning "the big south", or from "el país grande del sur", "the big country of the south". The terrain offers stunning views, making Big Sur a popular tourist destination. Big Sur's Cone Peak is the highest coastal mountain in the contiguous 48 states, ascending nearly a mile (5,155 feet/1571 m) above sea level, only three miles (4.8 km) from the ocean.
Although Big Sur has no specific boundaries, many definitions of the area include the 90 miles (140 km) of coastline from the Carmel River south to the San Carpoforo Creek, and extend about 20 miles (32 km) inland to the eastern foothills of the Santa Lucias. Other sources limit the eastern border to the coastal flanks of these mountains, only three to 12 miles (19 km) inland. Another practical definition of the region is the segment of California State Route 1 between San Simeon and Carmel.

Alanis Nadine Morissette (born June 1, 1974) is a Canadian singer-songwriter, guitarist, record producer, and actress. She has won 16 Juno Awards and seven Grammy Awards, was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards and also shortlisted for an Academy Award nomination. Morissette began her career in Canada, and as a teenager recorded two dance-pop albums, Alanis and Now Is the Time, under MCA Records Canada.
Her first international album was the rock-influenced Jagged Little Pill, released in 1995. Jagged has sold more than 33 million units globally. Her following album, Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie, was released in 1998 and was a success as well. Morissette took up producing duties for her subsequent albums, which include Under Rug Swept, So-Called Chaos and Flavors of Entanglement. Morissette has sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. Morissette is also known for her powerful and emotive mezzo-soprano voice.
Morissette acquired United States citizenship in 2005.
Morissette was born June 1, 1974 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Georgia Mary Ann (née Feuerstein), a teacher of Hungarian descent, and Alan Richard Morissette, a French-Canadian high school principal. She has a twin brother, Wade Morissette, (also a musician) who was born 12 minutes after her. Morissette was raised Catholic. She attended Glebe Collegiate Institute (Ottawa, Canada) for high school.

Highway 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge. The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, leading to its designation as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas. SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as Highway 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed further inland. Last weekend Nick & I packed up our little car and headed up the coast! Our family was in town, and we thought it would be fun to show them one of our favorite places, Big Sur. It was just a short weekend trip, but we packed it with tons of fun beach trips and hiking! On the way up, I discovered my new favorite shop, The Refill Shoppe, in Downtown Ventura. They have so many amazing organic bulk things, from Castile soap to lotion to hand sanitizer. It's all unscented, and you can add your choice of essential oil for no additional charge! So cool! I love the idea of buying products like that in bulk to reduce my plastic waste. It's a little far from where I live, but I want to go back! What did you guys think? Thanks for watching! camping in big sur!
Last weekend Nick & I packed up our little car and headed up the coast! Our family was in town, and we thought it would be fun to show them one of our favorite places, Big Sur. It was just a short weekend trip, but we packed it with tons of fun beach trips and hiking! On the way up, I discovered my new favorite shop, The Refill Shoppe, in Downtown Ventura. They have so many amazing organic bulk things, from Castile soap to lotion to hand sanitizer. It's all unscented, and you can add your choice of essential oil for no additional charge! So cool! I love the idea of buying products like that in bulk to reduce my plastic waste. It's a little far from where I live, but I want to go back! What did you guys think? Thanks for watching! Driving Big Sur - (California Pacific Coast Highway 1 [3X Speed])
A 71 mile drive on "Big Sur," or "Big South." Big Sur is a southern stretch of the Pacific Coast Highway in Central California, known for its world-famous views. The Pacific Coast Highway spans the entire Pacific coast of the United States, and into Baja, Mexico. It starts, or ends, near the border of Canada, in Washington state. Camping Big Sur
Our first time camping in Big Sur was even better than we could have imagined. From hikes through giant redwoods, to perfect days at the pristine beaches, the natural beauty of the famous central coast did not disappoint. Our campspot along Nacimiento Road in the Los Padres National Forest was as good of a view as you could have in Big Sur and the people we met while camping all had great stories to tell. California state route 1
State Route 1 (SR 1) is a major north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. Highway 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, leading to its designation as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.
SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as Highway 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed further inland. California state route 1
State Route 1 (SR 1) is a major north-south state highway that runs along most of the Pacific coastline of the U.S. state of California. Highway 1 has several portions designated as either Pacific Coast Highway (PCH), Cabrillo Highway, Shoreline Highway, or Coast Highway. Its southern terminus is at Interstate 5 (I-5) near Dana Point in Orange County and its northern terminus is at U.S. Highway 101 (US 101) near Leggett in Mendocino County. Highway 1 also at times runs concurrently with US 101, most notably through a 54-mile (87 km) stretch in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and across the Golden Gate Bridge.
The highway is famous for running along some of the most beautiful coastlines in the USA, leading to its designation as an All-American Road. In addition to providing a scenic route to numerous attractions along the coast, the route also serves as a major thoroughfare in the Greater Los Angeles Area, the San Francisco Bay Area, and several other coastal urban areas.
SR 1 was built piecemeal in various stages, with the first section opening in the Big Sur region in the 1930s. However, portions of the route had several names and numbers over the years as more segments opened. It was not until the 1964 state highway renumbering that the entire route was officially designated as Highway 1. Although SR 1 is a popular route for its scenic beauty, frequent landslides and erosion along the coast have caused several segments to be either closed for lengthy periods for repairs, or re-routed further inland. Last weekend Nick & I packed up our little car and headed up the coast! Our family was in town, and we thought it would be fun to show them one of our favorite places, Big Sur. It was just a short weekend trip, but we packed it with tons of fun beach trips and hiking!
On the way up, I discovered my new favorite shop, The Refill Shoppe, in Downtown Ventura. They have so many amazing organic bulk things, from Castile soap to lotion to hand sanitizer. It's all unscented, and you can add your choice of essential oil for no additional charge! So cool! I love the idea of buying products like that in bulk to reduce my plastic waste. It's a little far from where I live, but I want to go back!

Our first time camping in Big Sur was even better than we could have imagined. From hikes through giant redwoods, to perfect days at the pristine beaches, the natural beauty of the famous central coast did not disappoint.
Our campspot along Nacimiento Road in the Los Padres National Forest was as good of a view as you could have in Big Sur and the people we met while camping all had great stories to tell.

US Road Trip Day 8/9 - Beverly Hills, Big Sur, LA - Travel Vlog
This is some of the nicest footage we've had yet! On day 8 of our 14,000km road trip, we head from San Francisco to Los Angeles through Big Sur, one of the most beautiful drives you can possibly take. Along side the Pacific Ocean, with curvy roads for over 300 miles all the way to LA. We also saw some elephant seals just because.... The next day we head straight for Beverly Hills and more specific the D.A.S.H store, owned by the famous Kardashian sisters, we even bought something! Then we had some amazing IN N OUT burger, which let me tell you it's the best possible fast food you can ever have. The name Big Sur can also specifically refer to any of the small settlements in the region, including Posts, Lucia and Gorda; mail sent to most areas within the region must be addressed "Big Sur".Three tribes of Native Americans—the Ohlone, Esselen, and Salinan—are speculated to have been the first people to inhabit the area now known as Big Sur. Archaeological evidence shows that they lived in Big Sur for thousands of years, leading a nomadic, hunter-gatherer existence.[6]
Few traces of their material culture have survived. Their arrow heads were made of obsidian and flint, which indicates trading links with tribes hundreds of miles away, since the nearest sources of these rocks are in the Sierra Nevada mountains and the northern California Coast Ranges.
They followed local food sources seasonally, living near the coast in winter to harvest rich stocks of mussels, abalone and other sea life, and moving inland at other times to harvest oak acorns. The native people hollowed mortar holes into large exposed rocks or boulders which they used to grind the acorns into flour. These can be found throughout the Big Sur region. The tribes also used controlled burning techniques to increase tree growth and food production.[7]

This is some of the nicest footage we've had yet! On day 8 of our 14,000km road trip, we head from San Francisco to Los Angeles through Big Sur, one of the most beautiful drives you can possibly take. Along side the Pacific Ocean, with curvy roads for over 300 miles all the way to LA. We also saw some elephant seals just because.... The next day we head straight for Beverly Hills and more specific the D.A.S.H store, owned by the famous Kardashian sisters, we even bought something! Then we had some amazing IN N OUT burger, which let me tell you it's the best possible fast food you can ever have. On the way out we talked to some Lamborghini Hurricane and Mclaren 650s owners, they basically became our best friends. Seeing those two cars was just a tease for what was about to come, on the Beverly Hills Hotel driveway, 2 BUGATTI VEYRONS with incredible paint jobs, G65 AMG, FERRARI 458, and many more. Not necessarily a car sotting vlog, but the amount of nice cares in Beverly Hills is insane!! After "shopping" on Rodeo Drive we head to the Griffith Observatory to see the Hollywood sign, and take some selfies. To relax afterwards we head to Venice Beach, the boardwalk and of course Muscle Beach. We finish the day with an amazing Beverly Hills restaurant BAO Dim Sum House! Enjoy!

After "shopping" on Rodeo Drive we head to the Griffith Observatory to see the Hollywood sign, and take some selfies. To relax afterwards we head to Venice Beach, the boardwalk and of course Muscle Beach. We finish the day with an amazing Beverly Hills restaurant BAO Dim Sum House! Enjoy!

One of the largest and most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken, the Panama Canal shortcut greatly reduced the time for ships to travel between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, enabling them to avoid the lengthy, hazardous Cape Horn route around the southernmost tip of South America via the Drake Passage or Strait of Magellan. The shorter, faster, and safer route to the U.S. West Coast and to nations in and around the Pacific Ocean allowed those places to become more integrated with the world economy. It takes between 20 and 30 hours to traverse the canal.
During construction, ownership of the territory that is now the Panama Canal was first Colombian, then French, and then American. The US continued to control the canal and surrounding Panama Canal Zone until the 1977 Torrijos–Carter Treaties provided for handover to Panama. After a period of joint American–Panamanian control, the canal was taken over by the Panamanian government in 1999, and is now managed and operated by the Panama Canal Authority, a Panamanian government agency.
Annual traffic has risen from about 1,000 ships in 1914, when the canal opened, to 14,702 vessels in 2008, the latter measuring a total of 309.6 million Panama Canal/Universal Measurement System (PC/UMS) tons. By 2008, more than 815,000 vessels had passed through the canal; the largest ships that can transit the canal today are called Panamax. The American Society of Civil Engineers has named the Panama Canal one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

My boyfriend Mikel and I spent Labor Day Weekend traveling up the California coast. We took PCH the entire way and enjoyed the scenery. The trip was unexpected so we pretty much stopped whenever we felt like it...not much was planned, but that's what made it so memorable!
