As the inquest into the death of young soldier Cheryl James delivers its verdict, former soldiers who served alongside her at the notorious Deepcut barracks speak about life there - about a culture of bullying and physical and sexual abuse which has cast a shadow over the army for over two decades.
Cheryl James was an eighteen year old army recruit who went to Deepcut Barracks in 1995 to learn how to serve her country. Instead she was found dead after being left alone on guard duty.
The army and police assumed she'd taken her own life but there was never a proper investigation and allegations swirled of harassment, rule breaking, heavy drinking and sexual misconduct.
Today at end of a second inquest they had fought for years to get her family were again told Cheryl took her own life.

A fresh inquest into the death of soldier Private Cheryl James has been ordered by High Court Judged. Private James died at Deepcut Barracks aged 18.
Her family applied for a fresh investigation with the consent of the Attorney General. Private James was found dead from a single gunshot wound in November 1995. An inquest recorded an open verdict. She was one of four soldiers who died at the Surrey barracks between 1995 and 2002 amid claims of bullying and abuse.
Privates Sean Benton, James Collinson and Geoff Gray also died from gunshot wounds.

Malacologist Major Matthew Connolly lived at the Lock House at Deepcut where he brought up his son the writer and critic Cyril Connolly.
English/American singer Graham Parker was raised in the area and named his 2001 studio album "Deepcut To Nowhere."
Deep Cut is also the title of Philip Ralph's 2009 play, based on the infamous deaths of four trainees at the Princess Royal Barracks, Deepcut.

A fresh inquest into the death of soldier Private Cheryl James has been ordered by High Court Judged. Private James died at Deepcut Barracks aged 18.
Her family applied for a fresh investigation with the consent of the Attorney General. Private James was found dead from a single gunshot wound in November 1995. An inquest recorded an open verdict. She was one of four soldiers who died at the Surrey barracks between 1995 and 2002 amid claims of bullying and abuse.
Privates Sean Benton, James Collinson and Geoff Gray also died from gunshot wounds.

An eyewitness account reported that a police officer was able to bring down one suicide bomber just before the vest containing the bomb was detonated, almost certainly killing both involved according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
