Una Merkel (December 10, 1903 – January 2, 1986) was an American stage, film, radio, and television actress.
Una Merkel was born in Covington, Kentucky, but in her early childhood, she lived in many of the Southern states due to her father's job as a traveling salesman. At the age of 15, she and her parents moved to Philadelphia. They stayed there a year or so before settling in New York City, where she began attending the Alviene School of Dramatic Art.
Because of her strong resemblance to actress Lillian Gish, Merkel was offered a part as Gish's youngest sister in a silent film called World Shadows. Unfortunately, the public never saw the film because funding for it dried up, and it was never completed. Merkel went on to appear in a few silent films during the silent era, several of them for the Lee Bradford Corporation. She also appeared in the two-reel Love's Old Sweet Song (1923), which was made by Lee De Forest in his Phonofilm sound-on-film process and starred Louis Wolheim and Helen Weir. Not making much of a mark in films, Merkel turned her attention to the theater and found work in several important plays on Broadway. Her biggest triumph was in Coquette (1927), which starred her idol, Helen Hayes.

Became a popular second lead in 1930's movies usually playing the wise-cracking best friend of the heroine.
1944 two-reeler that was given some special attention with a bigger budget and the employment of background music (something a bit rare in these Columbia comedies). This was director Harold Godsoe's only brush with Columbia's Shorts Department.

Directed by Nick Grinde, it features Una Merkel (as a housewife with cooking challenges), Franklin Pangborn (as her husband) and Luis Alberni (as the Chef). This is NOT a Pete Smith Specialty but apparently a Pete Smith "Oddities" and was nominated for an Oscar Award in 1934 in the category of Best Short Subject, Novelty. Una Merkel! She is taken for granted in so many movies, no one is as believable as a best friend in movies than her. Usually she is teamed up with Jean Harlow (Red-headed woman, bombshell, and rifraff) sometimes with other stars like Myrna loy and Carole Lombard. She's a great character actress and deserves a great tribute (and this isn't it). The music is THEE most RANDOM music in the world. Tamyra Gray? First season of American Idol? But it was on my computer? and I liked it.
Kibbee was born in El Paso, Texas and began his entertainment career on Mississippi riverboats. He eventually became a successful Broadway actor. In the 1930s, Kibbee moved to California and became part of "Warner Bros.' stock company", contracted actors who cycled through different productions in supporting roles. Kibbee's specialty was daft and jovial characters, and he is perhaps best remembered for the films 42nd Street (1933), Gold Diggers of 1933 (1933), Captain Blood (1935), and Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), though he also played the expat inn owner in Joan Crawford's Rain (1932).

From WIkipedia: Abraham Lincoln, also released under the title D. W. Griffith's "Abraham Lincoln", is a 1930 Pre-Code biographical film about American president Abraham Lincoln directed by D. W. Griffith. It stars Walter Huston as Lincoln and Una Merkel, in her second speaking role, as Ann Rutledge. Her first speaking role was in a short film, Love's Old Sweet Song (1923) filmed in the Phonofilm sound-on-film process. The script was co-written by Stephen Vincent Benét, author of the Civil War prose poem John Brown's Body. This was the first of only two sound films made by Griffith. The film entered the public domain in 1958 due to the rights holders failure to renew the copyright after 28 years.
The film depicts Abraham Lincoln - the 16th President of the United States's life, including his youth, presidency time during the American Civil War and the Lincoln's assassination.
The first Eagle-Lion film stars Kenny Delmar as Senator Beauregard Claghorn, his "Allen's Alley" resident-character heard on Fred Allen's radio program. Claghorn was a blustery, one-man-Chamber-of-Commerce for all things Southern, who had no tolerence for anything north of the Mason-Dixon line, although he made allowances for South Philly. The character inspired the creation of one of the most popular of the Warners' cartoon characters, Foghorn Leghorn, who re-worked most of the originals material and style. Cast Kenny Delmar ...
