Myra is an ancient town in Lycia, where the small town of Kale (Demre) is situated today in present day Antalya Province of Turkey. It was located on the river Myros (Demre Çay), in the fertile alluvial plain between Alaca Dağ, the Massikytos range and the Aegean Sea.
Although some scholars equate Myra with the town Mira in Arzawa, there is no proof for the connection. There is no substantiated written reference for Myra before it was listed as a member of the Lycian alliance (168 BC – AD 43); according to Strabo (14:665) it was one of the largest towns of the alliance.
The Greek citizens worshipped Artemis Eleutheria, who was the protective goddess of the town. Zeus, Athena and Tyche were venerated as well.
The ruins of the Lycian and Roman town are mostly covered by alluvial silts. The Acropolis on the Demre-plateau, the Roman theatre and the Roman baths (eski hamam) have been partly excavated. The semi-circular theater was destroyed in an earthquake in 141, but rebuilt afterwards.
There are two necropoli of Lycian rock-cut tombs in the form of temple fronts carved into the vertical faces of cliffs at Myra: the river necropolis and the ocean necropolis. The ocean necropolis is just northwest of the theater. The best known tomb in the river necropolis (located 1.5 km up the Demre Cayi from the theater) is the "Lion's tomb,"also called the "Painted Tomb." When the traveller Charles Fellows saw the tombs in 1840 he found them still colorfully painted red, yellow and blue.

This week, the President announced plans for a new retirement savings account aimed at the lower income earners in America called, "MyRA", which means My Retirement Account. And although it was refreshing to hear Obama and the White House address the upcoming retirement crisis (with the majority of American's not saving near enough for retirement...or at all in some cases), this proposed plan simply doesn't have the legs to make it to the finish line.

This video from Retirement Think Tank covers the main 3 reasons that the MyRA plan will simply not work, and why they believe this is not a viable answer to the huge issue of people not saving.
And although the MyRA program has some nice talking points such as no fees, a guarantee, it is set up like a Roth where your gains come out tax-free, you can open an account for as little as $25 with a $5 minimum monthly contribution, etc, the negatives far outweigh any MyRA benefits.
Not to mention, the guarantee sounds nice until you find out that your money is invested in something similar to the Thrift Savings Plan Government Securities Fund that returned 1.47% in 2012 while the S&P; returned 16% in the same time period. When you factor in that this MyRA plan is targeted at lower income families who will most likely be putting anywhere from $5 to $100 per month in, with these kind of low returns, it will take a decade (or multiple decades if you are only putting $5 per month) just to reach $15,000 in total retirement savings. And don't forget about inflation. That 1.47% return wasn't even enough to keep up with inflation that year.
The bigger issue is actually getting people to save, and this MyRA plan is not the inspiration that America needs unfortunately.

The Romans soon recognized the strategic importance of Palmyra as it was a vital centre of trade in the Near East. Palmyra’s fine buildings such as its Amphitheatre were typical of its impressive architecture. Most of the Tetrapylon has been restored. It towers high above the ancient ruins and the Great Colonnade was once the main street of the historic metropolis. Beyond the city walls in the Valley Of Tombs the mystic atmosphere of the former caravan city becomes apparent. Several well preserved mausoleums give the surreal looking desert landscape a truly ghostly atmosphere. The architecture of these multi-floored burial places are unique in the world. The view from the Arabian fortress extends across the picturesque ruins of the city to the endless horizons of the desert. The oasis and ancient remains of Palmyra look almost surreal as if in a dream yet the old ruins and the mighty fortress really do exist in very tangible and resplendent form.

The main attraction for travellers: Good security with high walls, barbed wire, and electrified fence; good internet; nicer long term apartment facilities and massive pool; motor bikes available for rent or complimentary for long-term guests, very convenient for daily transport; lots of privacy and space in quiet area; laundry mat, and bakery next door, and sari-sari convenience store a few meters further down. Good safe place for tourists on vacation and short trips.
The down side: It is further away from town, so if you do not want to ride a hired motor bike, you lose the motorbike advantage and transport convenience; negotiating affordable pedicab trike taxi's everyday can be pain, or expensive return trips from town; NO Smoking on the hotel grounds so you have to go outside the compound if you smoke cigarettes; there is a "smokey mountain" trash dump site near by (see Episode 21); if you don't want to ride a motor bike, or simply want more convenience in town there are plenty of competitive options near Rizal Boulevard, Lee Plaza mall, and Robinsons Place mall. Other tourists I met were happy staying in town as well, with plenty of good options.

Travel Tips:
Everyone spoke English and generally very friendly.
It is important to have photo ID for flights, hotels, and if police ask.
It is common for taxi drivers in Manila and every other city to try rip you off, or overcharge foreigners. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start. Ask locals what it costs to your location. If you are not comfortable, don't use that taxi. Don't be afraid to move on and find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Generally you will notice ash and dust particles in the air as burning trash and charcoal BBQ cooking is quite common. Also if there is a lot of vehicle traffic in that city from Jeepney buses, motorbikes, trucks and cars.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be firm and confident, but always be respectful and polite. Shop around, you can often get a better price. Ask around about local fair pricing for things you want to do.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP200 - 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

It was Paul that was responsible for spreading the Christian church around the known world then. The Apostle Paul was from Tarsus in Cilicia. He was born a Jew and followed the famous Rabbi Gamaliel. Tarsus at that time had a Jewish community living there. He was originally called Saul. Earlier in life he actually partook in the persecution of the early Jewish-Christians. On his way to Damascus he had a transformation. And the former persecutor of Jewish-Christians, decided to spread the new religion instead. His new name was Paul He revolutionized the Christian religion by having people not having to become Jewish first before becoming Christian. This led to the breaking of all ties between the Jewish Temple and the Christian Church.
Apostle Paul may have traded in woven goods, and this may be the reasoning why he traveled around so much and did so many missionary activities.

Travel Philippines, Season 1, Ep(26/26) finale. Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental province. It's the capital, principal seaport, and largest city of the province. Nicknamed "The City of Gentle People". Shopping and eating out can be cheaper compared to bigger cities if you know the local language and culture. Had the best Filipino BBQ and massages while there. Some people may be interested in retiring in Philippines to live their dreams. I highly recommend you visit first, and explore the areas you are interested in before making any big moves. Take a few weeks or months to see if you like it and can fit in. I know successful expats who stayed and have a happy life, and others who left Philippines after a few years. Living in a city long term is not the same as a short vacation. So you will have to get use to local standards. A local standard of living cost can be very affordable, depending on your lifestyle. But a high Western standard like living in America or Australia would cost the same or more than living back home in USA or AU. I've seen other party goers living beyond their means and they get into trouble or run out of money real quick.
Philippines has a gun culture and shooting sports are popular, and accepted like any other sports activity. There are also many security, law enforcement, and military personnel who own firearms for their work. Some local friends took me to the shooting range.

Its common for taxi drivers in Manila to try rip you off. Ask them nicely to put the meter on, or negotiate the price from the start if you know what it costs to your location. Otherwise find another taxi!
Shopping mall culture, locals love the mall for the aircon and to get out of the heat.
Locals often inflate prices for foreigners and tourists. Haggle and negotiate nicely. Be tough, but be respectful and polite about it. Shop around, you can often get a better price.
"Tip" can also mean bribe, so don't be afraid to ask what you're paying for upfront. Locals often do things to try help you, but then expect a tip.
The average basic worker earns PHP 300 a day. So tipping PHP 20 - 50 is fine.

Japan was struck by a powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.4 Thursday evening that collapsed walls and a number of houses, but initial reports say left no casualties, CBS News reported.Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga told a news conference after the quake it was too early to assess the damage, but a number of homes had collapsed, but there was no abnormality at nearby nuclear facilities....
