Turok is the 2008 installment in the Turok video games series, the original called "Turok Dinosaur Hunter" released in 1997, and is loosely based on Acclaim Entertainment's comic series under the same name, "Turok". The 2008 installment of Turok is a reboot of the series, and has no relation to the previous Turok game editions or to the comic books. It was developed by Propaganda Games and Aspyr Media, and was published by Touchstone Games for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and Capcom for the PC. Honest.) - - - - - - - - - - - - - The reboot of Turok came out in 2008, and while in previous games the player controsl Tal'Set (Turok), a Native American time-traveling warrior, this time around the player takes on the role of soldier "Corporal Joseph Turok", now a member of the Wolf Pack, a specialized military detachment whose members were trained in black ops. Turok, the game, features a lot of dinosaurs, real and fake. Noteworthy ones are: Tyrannosaurus rex, Velociraptors, and Brachiosaurus. But you'll also encounter "genetically mutated" creatures, such as the Lurkers, and Soldier Bugs. The human enemies, under the leadership of Kane, are the main threat to the player, although dinosaurs may often be found wandering throughout the game. The dinosaurs act as a neutral force and, if the player chooses, can be used as a tool to attack enemy soldiers. This may be done by attracting roaming dinosaurs to a firefight (via: flares, gunshots, etc.) to aid the player and help dispatch the enemy, with possible other ways depending on the situation. The dinosaurs' intelligence are much alike the Earth dinosaurs, so other dinosaurs and all humans, including the player's allies and enemies, may be attacked. The game does not utilize an aim-assist feature." Turok also has online multiplayer, which features Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Wargames, and Assault Capture the Flag. Multiplayer supports up to 16 people, and 4 players for three co-op missions. For instance, Turok has received a 9/10 from Play magazine and a 7/10 from both the Official Xbox Magazine and the Official PlayStation Magazine. In their Turok Review, Gamespot gave the game a 6/10, saying "It's impressive how far slitting a dinosaur's neck can go toward saving an otherwise mediocre game from becoming immediate bargain-bin fodder. Without the lumbering lizards, Turok's middling artificial intelligence, spotty difficulty, and average production values would make it a merely functional first-person shooter, and the shoddiness with which it's been ported to the PC would be a mark of shame on any developer's record. Yet shooting and stabbing dinos is amusing enough to keep Turok from sinking into the abyss of mediocrity--but just barely."
