Radio 1990 was a thirty-minute music video showcase program that ran during primetime on weekdays on USA Network. It was intended to compete directly with the major network program Friday Night Videos as well as MTV and other cable channel shows like Night Tracks. It was a companion to another USA Network program Night Flight (the latter of which was a combination of music videos, interviews, standup comedy and other performances).
The program ran from March 1983 until September 1986 and was hosted by Lisa Robinson and Kathryn Kinley. The show also featured musical guest hosts. In August 1985, Paul Stanley of KISS, was a co-host for an entire week.
1990 (MCMXC) was a common year starting on Monday (dominical letter G) of the Gregorian calendar, the 1990th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 990th year of the 2nd millennium, the 90th year of the 20th century, and the 1st year of the 1990s decade.
Important events of 1990 include the Reunification of Germany and Yemeni unification, the formal beginning of the Human Genome Project (finished in 2003), the launch of the Hubble Space Telescope, the separation of Namibia from South Africa, and the Baltic states declaring independence from the Soviet Union amidst Perestroika. Yugoslavia's communist regime collapses amidst increasing internal tensions and multiparty elections held within its constituent republics result in separatist governments being elected in most of the republics marking the beginning of the breakup of Yugoslavia. Also in this year began the crisis that would lead to the Gulf War in 1991 following the Iraqi invasion and the largely internationally unrecognized annexation of Kuwait resulting in a crisis in the Persian Gulf involving the issue of the sovereignty of Kuwait and fears by Saudi Arabia over Iraqi aggression against their oil fields near Kuwait, this resulted in Operation Desert Shield being enacted with an international coalition of military forces being built up on the Kuwaiti-Saudi border with demands for Iraq to peacefully withdraw from Kuwait. Also in this year, Nelson Mandela was released from prison, and Margaret Thatcher resigned as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after over 11 years.
Radio is the use of radio waves is to carry information, such as sound, by systematically modulating some property of electromagnetic energy waves transmitted through space, such as their amplitude, frequency, phase, or pulse width. When radio waves strike an electrical conductor, the oscillating fields induce an alternating current in the conductor. The information in the waves can be extracted and transformed back into its original form.
Radio systems need a transmitter to modulate (change) some property of the energy produced to impress a signal on it, for example using amplitude modulation or angle modulation (which can be frequency modulation or phase modulation). Radio systems also need an antenna to convert electric currents into radio waves, and vice versa. An antenna can be used for both transmitting and receiving. The electrical resonance of tuned circuits in radios allow individual stations to be selected. The electromagnetic wave is intercepted by a tuned receiving antenna. A radio receiver receives its input from an antenna and converts it into a form usable for the consumer, such as sound, pictures, digital data, measurement values, navigational positions, etc. Radio frequencies occupy the range from a 3 kHz to 300 GHz, although commercially important uses of radio use only a small part of this spectrum.

USA Network (commonly referred to as simply "USA") is an American basic cable and satellite television channel that is owned by the NBCUniversal Cable division of NBCUniversal, itself a subsidiary of Comcast. Once a minor player in basic cable, the network has steadily gained popularity due to its original programming; USA also broadcasts syndicated reruns of current and former "network television" (i.e., broadcast) series and theatrically-released feature films, as well as limited sports programming.
As of July 2015, USA Network is available to approximately 95.567 million pay television households (82.1% of households with at least one television set) in the United States.
USA Network originally launched on September 22, 1977 as the Madison Square Garden Network (not to be confused with the New York City regional sports network of the same name). The network was founded by cable provider UA-Columbia Cablevision and Kay Koplovitz. The channel was one of the first national cable television channels, using satellite delivery as opposed to microwave relay to distribute its programming to cable systems. Initially, the network ran a mix of college and less well-known professional sports, similar to those found during the early years of ESPN. The channel began its broadcast day after 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays and 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekends.
Here is another rare episode from the USA Network's mid-80s music video/interview program Radio 1990, with Kathryn Kinley as today's host. Be sure to watch the previous day's episode to appreciate the intro! Today's music videos include Jeff Beck's Ambitious, Marshall Crenshaw's Little Wild One, The Cure's In Between Days, and Grace Jones' Slave to the Rhythm. Includes a brief interview with Smith and The Cure as moderated by Lisa Robinson and the latest fur fashions from Revillion (pardon the silent audio here). Plus, don't miss the "Trends of 1985" graphic!

Likewise, Radio 1990 was USA Network's® music video show, but I should really say "daytime" video show, since Night Flight covered that to a degree on weekends. Multiple users here have clips of this show. Not sure if this show made it to 1990 or not... My thanks to KC Texan for the ad! © 1984 USA Network. Despite its name, USA Network's Radio 1990 only ran from 1983 to 1986 which served as an alternative for MTV by showcasing a few videos along with interviews, and this mostly catered to a hard rock/metal/New Wave audience. This program features Cheech & Chong as hosts with special guest Thor in this "Heavy Metal Wednesday" (sort of a precursor to MTV's Headbangers' Ball) edition. The videos featured are: *Ratt- You're In Love *Herman Zee German- Wipe Out *Thor- Knock 'Em Down *Cheech and Chong (Ian Rotten)- Get Outta My Room

You know you're livin' a lie when you just can't win
Pulling in first prize ain't gonna give you a break
You know I'm kickin' back, I had a broken wing
Me and my shadow are the next best thing
I need someone
You know it might take more than you give to me
Are you gun-shy, are you listening?
What we got here is dead reckoning
And take me in for the night in the right time zone
We'll do what you like, make a left turn home
I put out the light, you're turnin' way too red
No stop sign straight up ahead
You need so much
So much sympathy
That's more than I can say
You know it's not too late
Are you gun-shy, are you listening?
What we got here is dead reckoning
And if it feels good, we'll do it again
See your way clear, dead reckoning
Tell me why, tell me why
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
Are you listening?
You mean so much
So much to me
That's more than I can say
You know it's not too late
Are you gun-shy, are you listening?
What we got here is dead reckoning
And if it feels good, we'll do it again
See your way clear, dead reckoning, yeah
What we got here is dead reckoning
