Raff's fame as a symphonist was assured by the Symphony No.3 in F Im Walde (In the Forest) op.153. Together with the later Lenore, it was amongst the most played of modern symphonies in its day, taking his name to both England and America. Its dramatic pictorialism seems to have created a sensation when it was first heard - an effect only lessened by his style later becoming common currency from many composers. With this work, Raff was indeed an innovator.
As a true romantic, he was greatly influenced by nature - six of his nine programme symphonies relate to nature in one form or another, as do many of his other compositions. As a German, he had a particular feeling for his country's woods and forests. He wrote the work in Wiesbaden in 1869 and it was premiered in his old home of Wiemar on Easter Sunday, 1870 with great success. The acclaim for it continued throughout the rest of his life: an American critic described it as "the best Symphony of modern times, one of the very few which are worthy to go down in posterity in company with the works of Beethoven and Schumann". After one performance at which Raff was present "a complete hurricane went through the house" and Raff mounted the podium "amidst barbaric jubilation from the audience". Hans von Bülow described the symphony's success as "colossal".
The published programme for his third symphony comprises short titles for each movement, but Raff may have been working to a very much longer and highly detailed unpublished programme, which is illustrated quite literally by the music - see Carol Bevier's dissertation for more detail (pp.28-93). This programme links almost every phrase and section of the work to the experiences and feelings of a "wanderer" in the Forest. It was not unknown, however, for composers to concoct such detailed programmes after the event to satisfy the incessant demands for literalism that developed amongst Victorian music lovers - those for Bruckner's "Romantic" symphony or Rubinstein's "Ocean" Symphony being contemporary examples. Whether this was so in Raff's case is not known.
Each of its four movements has a descriptive sub-title meant to give a general impression of the music rather than a detailed programme which it follows. The joyful opening Allegro "Daytime. Impressions and feelings" is followed by slow Largo and fast Allegro assai movements together grouped under the title "At twilight - Dreaming and Dance of the Nyads". The extended Allegro finale depicts "Night....still murmurings.....the wild hunt of Hulda & Wotan......sunrise". The piece was hailed in Raff's lifetime as a masterpiece and it is easy to see why it made such an impression in its day with its inventive orchestration and abundance of melody.

"Salido de callejones oscuros y pistas de baile sudorosas, 'Cat Platoon' es el primer LP de Dodosound & iSeo. Un trabajo indomable que ha sido registrado y editado íntegramente por este dúo navarro. Con influencias que comienzan por el rub-a-dub ochentero y llegan hasta el dub más actual, el sonido de 'Cat Platoon' destaca por el cuidado minimalismo de sus producciones, sus potentes graves sintéticos y las baterías, que encuentran su identidad en las cajas de ritmos de los 80. Paisajes por los que iSeo camufla su voz con la misma elegancia y desparpajo que los grandes felinos se mueven por la selva. De paseo por estas avenidas mal iluminadas, la cantante se encuentra con registros reminiscentes del trip hop que asoló los 90 y, por supuesto, del soul (el de toda la vida y el más actual).

Joachim Raff
Joseph Joachim Raff (May 27, 1822 – June 24 or June 25, 1882) was a German-Swiss composer, teacher and pianist.
Biography
Raff was born in Lachen in Switzerland. His father, a teacher, had fled there from Württemberg in 1810 to escape forced recruitment into the military of that southwestern German state that had to fight for Napoleon in Russia. Joachim was largely self-taught in music, studying the subject while working as a schoolmaster in Schmerikon, Schwyz and Rapperswil. He sent some of his piano compositions to Felix Mendelssohn who recommended them to Breitkopf & Härtel for publication. They were published in 1844 and received a favourable review in Robert Schumann's journal, the Neue Zeitschrift für Musik, which prompted Raff to go to Zürich and take up composition full-time.
In 1845, Raff walked to Basel to hear Franz Liszt play the piano. After a period in Stuttgart where he became friends with the conductor Hans von Bülow, he worked as Liszt's assistant at Weimar from 1850 to 1853. During this time he helped Liszt in the orchestration of several of his works, claiming to have had a major part in orchestrating the symphonic poem Tasso. In 1851, Raff's opera König Alfred was staged in Weimar, and five years later he moved to Wiesbaden where he largely devoted himself to composition. From 1878 he was the first Director of, and a teacher at, the Hoch Conservatory in Frankfurt. There he employed Clara Schumann and a number of other eminent musicians as teachers, and established a class specifically for female composers. Riff Raff (rapper)
Horst Christian Simco (born January 29, 1982), better known by the stage name Riff Raff (often stylized as RiFF RAFF), is an American rapper from Houston, Texas. He was originally managed by Swishahouse co-founder OG Ron C. Then after being associated with Soulja Boy's imprint S.O.D. Money Gang Inc., Riff Raff is now signed to producer Diplo's record label Mad Decent. He was formerly a member of the rap group Three Loco along with Andy Milonakis and Dirt Nasty. His major label debut studio album Neon Icon was released on June 24, 2014 on Mad Decent.
Early life
Riff Raff was born Horst Simco in Houston, Texas, on January 29, 1982 to parents Anita Simco, a maid, and Ronald Simco, a Vietnam War veteran with severe post-traumatic stress disorder who worked various jobs including police officer and Walmart manager. His mother grew up in Ohio, descending from a family of German and Lithuanian Jews that included several survivors, and victims, of the Holocaust. Riff Raff was the second of four siblings. He and his family lived in Copperfield, a suburb 25 miles northwest of Houston. Growing up he was obsessed with basketball, playing frequently with other children in his neighborhood. By the middle of the decade, the Simcos had moved to nearby Stone Creek, which had recently developed a gang problem. He attended Langham Creek High School, where he was shooting guard on his school's basketball team, before dropping out in his senior year. Shortly thereafter he obtained his GED.

Raff's fame as a symphonist was assured by the Symphony No.3 in F Im Walde (In the Forest) op.153. Together with the later Lenore, it was amongst the most played of modern symphonies in its day, taking his name to both England and America. Its dramatic pictorialism seems to have created a sensation when it was first heard - an effect only lessened by his style later becoming common currency from many composers. With this work, Raff was indeed an innovator.
As a true romantic, he was greatly influenced by nature - six of his nine programme symphonies relate to nature in one form or another, as do many of his other compositions. As a German, he had a particular feeling for his country's woods and forests. He wrote the work in Wiesbaden in 1869 and it was premiered in his old home of Wiemar on Easter Sunday, 1870 with great success. The acclaim for it continued throughout the rest of his life: an American critic described it as "the best Symphony of modern times, one of the very few which are worthy to go down in posterity in company with the works of Beethoven and Schumann". After one performance at which Raff was present "a complete hurricane went through the house" and Raff mounted the podium "amidst barbaric jubilation from the audience". Hans von Bülow described the symphony's success as "colossal".
The published programme for his third symphony comprises short titles for each movement, but Raff may have been working to a very much longer and highly detailed unpublished programme, which is illustrated quite literally by the music - see Carol Bevier's dissertation for more detail (pp.28-93). This programme links almost every phrase and section of the work to the experiences and feelings of a "wanderer" in the Forest. It was not unknown, however, for composers to concoct such detailed programmes after the event to satisfy the incessant demands for literalism that developed amongst Victorian music lovers - those for Bruckner's "Romantic" symphony or Rubinstein's "Ocean" Symphony being contemporary examples. Whether this was so in Raff's case is not known.
Each of its four movements has a descriptive sub-title meant to give a general impression of the music rather than a detailed programme which it follows. The joyful opening Allegro "Daytime. Impressions and feelings" is followed by slow Largo and fast Allegro assai movements together grouped under the title "At twilight - Dreaming and Dance of the Nyads". The extended Allegro finale depicts "Night....still murmurings.....the wild hunt of Hulda & Wotan......sunrise". The piece was hailed in Raff's lifetime as a masterpiece and it is easy to see why it made such an impression in its day with its inventive orchestration and abundance of melody.

"Salido de callejones oscuros y pistas de baile sudorosas, 'Cat Platoon' es el primer LP de Dodosound & iSeo. Un trabajo indomable que ha sido registrado y editado íntegramente por este dúo navarro. Con influencias que comienzan por el rub-a-dub ochentero y llegan hasta el dub más actual, el sonido de 'Cat Platoon' destaca por el cuidado minimalismo de sus producciones, sus potentes graves sintéticos y las baterías, que encuentran su identidad en las cajas de ritmos de los 80. Paisajes por los que iSeo camufla su voz con la misma elegancia y desparpajo que los grandes felinos se mueven por la selva. De paseo por estas avenidas mal iluminadas, la cantante se encuentra con registros reminiscentes del trip hop que asoló los 90 y, por supuesto, del soul (el de toda la vida y el más actual).
Acompañan a la pareja los instrumentos de Rocko Tenor Sax y el trompetista Alberto Sanzol, colaboradores habituales en los directos del dúo. Ambos conforman la sección de vientos de 'Fresh Air' y 'Cat Platoon', y un solo del último cierra 'Zombies'. También se una a la fiesta Roberto Sánchez, el mago cántabro, que se disfraza de Ras Telford y pone su melódica al servicio de 'Freedom'. Sobre el mismo riddim, el instrumento de Sánchez toma el protagonismo en 'Free Us Now'. Iñigo Xalbador corre el telón del disco con su solo de saxofón en 'Lonely sax'
'Cat Platoon' son diez canciones como esas. Serenas y calientes como las primeras noches de verano, nostálgicas y absolutamente sensuales. La mejor carta de presentación para un dúo que ya forma parte de la emergente escena estatal de reggae y dub."
