Chris Carson

Chris Carson (born August 21, 1985) is an American pianist and composer native to San Antonio, Texas. Growing up in Houston, Texas, he attended High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and studied with Timothy Hester, a Juilliard graduate. Other teachers have included Abbey Simon, Ludmilla Lifson, and Victor Rosenbaum. Mr. Carson has been a very successful competitor, capturing many awards and top ratings in competitions throughout his career. He recently was the inaugural winner of the Pacifica Quartet Competition, and, in 2009, performed the Brahms piano quintet with the Grammy-award winning group. He has received first prize in numerous concerto competitions, and has appeared as a soloist with three orchestras over the past few years, most recently with Orchesterakademie in Germany in 2009, performing a repertoire of Beethoven, Liszt, Shostakovich, and Mendelssohn. Mr. Carson's performances have taken him to New York, Dallas, Chicago, Boston, Houston, Montreal and overseas to venues in Italy, France, and Germany. An active composer, Carson premiered his Fantasy for Piano in Italy in 2006 and is very involved in composing both sacred and secular music. Mr. Carson is also an active teacher in the Boston area, coaching both pianists and vocalists. He currently resides in Boston, where he attended Longy School of Music for his Master's degree. He is now a music director, teacher, and freelancer, in addition to being the choral accompanist for the Belmont Public Schools, in Belmont, Massachusetts.

Made in Heaven

Made in Heaven is the fifteenth and final studio album by British rock band Queen, released on 6 November 1995 on Parlophone and Hollywood Records. Until the release of Queen Forever in 2014, it was the final album containing original material featuring the band's original line up.

After Freddie Mercury's death, bass player John Deacon, drummer Roger Taylor and guitarist Brian May worked with vocal and piano parts that Mercury recorded before his death, adding fresh instrumentation to the recordings.

Both stages of recording, before and after Mercury's death, were completed at the band's studio in Montreux, Switzerland. The album debuted at #1 in the UK where it went 4× platinum. The album became a worldwide success, especially in Europe, selling over 7 million copies there, and more than 10 million around the world.

History

The album was recorded in a much different way from Queen's other studio albums. In early 1991, having completed work on Innuendo, and some months before his death, Freddie Mercury recorded as many vocals as he could, with the instruction to the rest of the band: Roger Taylor, John Deacon and Brian May, to complete the songs later. Put to tape during this time were primarily "A Winter's Tale", "Mother Love" and what would eventually become "You Don't Fool Me".

In Heaven

"In Heaven" is a song originally part of the soundtrack to the David Lynch film Eraserhead, where it is sung by the Lady in the Radiator (Laurel Near). The song was written and performed for the film by Peter Ivers, and was included on the soundtrack album.

Covers

The song was sung by fans of English psychobilly band The Meteors at the start of their 1981 debut album The Case of The Meteors in Heaven on Lost Soul Records.

It was covered by The Pixies as part of the recording session for their initial demo tape; this version was released in 2002 on the Pixies EP. The band re-recorded the track for a session for John Peel's BBC radio show in May 1988, which was later released on the Pixies at the BBC album. The song was a regular part of the Pixies' setlist, and a live version by the band appeared as a B-side of the "Gigantic" single, and was also included on The Complete B-Sides album. A version of the song was recorded by the Joe Harvard Band for the Pixies tribute album Dig for Fire, although it was omitted from the final album track listing.
