Eple

"Eple" is a song by Norwegian electronica duo Röyksopp, released as their second single. In 2003, it was re-released as the duo's third single from their debut album Melody A.M..

Commercial use

The song's title comes from the Norwegian word for apple. The song was licensed by Apple and used as the introduction music for the Mac OS X v10.3 Setup Assistant. It was also used on Sky One's gaming show Gamezville as background music during the opening of the show. The track is also used as background music on the UK television programme The Kevin Bishop Show, in which a man called Gary in one of its sketches pretends to be a radio announcer, only to the annoyance of his girlfriend.

A small snippet of the song also is used for the station ID for American public television station KLRU, as well as for their identical production logo featured at the end of their productions such as Austin City Limits.

The single was used to accompany a television TestCard in the UK during 2001.

The song is the background music heard in a video made by Volvo called "Vision 2020" in which it showed off future semi truck concepts.

Melody A.M.

Melody A.M. is the debut studio album by Norwegian electronic music duo Röyksopp, released on 3 September 2001 by Wall of Sound. Songs from this album have been used in television adverts and computer games; "Remind Me" was formally featured in an advertisement for GEICO Insurance in one of their popular Caveman ads, while "Eple" was licensed by Apple and used as the introduction music for the Mac OS X v10.3 setup assistant. The Silicone Soul remix of "Poor Leno" was featured in the soundtrack to the 2003 snowboarding video game SSX 3. "So Easy" was the soundtrack of T-Mobile's launch advert featuring the face of a baby appearing around places in a city.

On 21 November 2007, the album was included on The Guardian's series of the 1000 Albums to Hear Before You Die. It is also listed in a similar selection, called 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, in a series of books by Quintessence Editions. On 24 November 2009, Melody A.M. was named the best Norwegian album of the 2000s decade by Norway's largest newspaper, Verdens Gang.

So Easy

"So Easy" is a song by Norwegian duo Röyksopp, released as their first single. Originally it was released in 1999, with only 500 copies made and distributed. Later it was re-released on Röyksopp's debut album Melody A.M.. "So Easy" contains instrumental and vocal samples from a 1960s cover version of the Burt Bacharach/Hal David song "Blue on Blue" (wrongly "Who are You") recorded by a Swedish vocal group called Gals & Pals. (It had originally been recorded by Bobby Vinton). The sampled lyrics are: "Blue on blue, heartache on heartache/Blue on blue, Now that we are through."

"So Easy" was used for a time on British television adverts for T-Mobile (now EE), as well as the displays between programs on Channel 4.

After "So Easy" was used in said T-Mobile ad in the UK, the single was re-released, with the group's hit "Remind Me" as the A-side and "So Easy" as the B-side.

It is featured on the album Songs to Make You Feel Good.

The Clearing

The Clearing is a 2004 American drama film and the directorial debut of Pieter Jan Brugge, who has worked as a film producer. The film is loosely based on the real-life kidnapping of Gerrit Jan Heijn that took place in the Netherlands in 1987. The screenplay was written by Justin Haythe.

Plot

Wayne Hayes (Robert Redford), and his wife Eileen (Helen Mirren) are living the American dream in a wealthy Pittsburgh suburb, having raised two children (Alessandro Nivola, Melissa Sagemiller) and built up a successful business from scratch. He is looking forward to a peaceful retirement with Eileen. Everything changes when Wayne is kidnapped in broad daylight by a former employee, Arnold Mack (Willem Dafoe). While Wayne tries negotiating with the kidnapper, Eileen works with the FBI to try to secure her husband's release. During the investigation, Eileen learns that Wayne has continued an extramarital affair that he promised to end months previously.

Eileen is eventually instructed to deliver the ransom to the kidnapper, but Arnold takes the money without returning her husband; Arnold murdered Wayne the day of the kidnapping. Although Eileen's ordeal takes place over the course of a week, the film is edited to show Wayne's kidnapping as if it was happening at the same time.
