Ever wonder what the differences are between a Remington 870 and a Mossberg 500/590? Ever wonder which one you should buy? Which one is better?
Both shotguns have their pros & cons. In my opinion one is not necessarily better than the other. What it really boils down to is which shotgun has the "features" you want/need.
The best way to decide which shotgun is best for you is to know the features that separate them. Do not buy a gun based on some guy simply saying "brand X" is the best and has no facts to back it up.
I did not talk about pistol grip shotguns in this video because I wanted to keep it basic and below 30 minutes long. I will talk about the pros & cons of pistol grip shotguns in a separate video.
You can also increase the capacity of a Mossberg by either buying a conversion kit or buying a Persuader or 590 model or a Maverick 88 or a Mariner with a bigger capacity.

In the video i am unboxing a brand new Mossberg model 500 and telling a few specifications about the firearm. The weapon has a total ammunition capacity of 6 (2 3/4") shells including one in the chamber but the capacity can be reduced if using 3" shells. Included in the box when purchased is your trigger lock, owners manual, sling attachments, Large allen wrench tool, product registration info, and two stocks which are the soft polymer pistol grip stock as well as a black synthectic stock. It has an 18.5" blued barrel and the overall lengths are as follows: 27 1/2" with the pistol grip and 38" with the regular stock. The release lever is made on the left side of the shotgun so when using the pistol grip stock it is a thumb release only. With the firearm also comes a 10 year limited warranty and does not cover the following:
1.Normal wear & tear
2.Failure to perform proper care & maintenance
3.Accidents, abuse or neglect
4.Barrel or bore obstructions
5.Failure to follow the instructions and warnings that accompany the mossberg firearm
6.The use of defective, non-saami standard, remanufactured, hand-loaded, and/or reloaded ammunition.

I've had a Mossberg 500 shotgun for over 15 years. It has been one of the best and certainly the most reliable of the shotguns I've owned. Oddly enough, it was also the least expensive. Mossberg 500
Mossberg 500 is a series of pump-action shotguns manufactured by O.F. Mossberg & Sons. The 500 series comprises widely varying models of hammerless repeaters, all of which share the same basic receiver and action, but differ in bore size, barrel length, choke options, magazine capacity, and "furniture" (stock and forearm) materials. Model numbers included in the 500 series are the 500, 505, 510, 535, and 590. The Mossberg is currently the number one selling shotgun and second in total production to the Remington 870.
Basic features
Introduced in 1961, all model 500s are based on the same basic concept designed by Carl Benson. Originally using a single-action bar, that was known to bind and even break, this was changed to dual- action bars in 1970, following the expiration of Remington's patent on the double-action bar design. A single large locking lug is used to secure the breech. The magazine tube is located below the barrel, and is screwed into the receiver. The slide release is located to the left rear of the trigger guard, and the safety is located on the upper rear of the receiver (often called a "tang safety").

Ever wonder what the differences are between a Remington 870 and a Mossberg 500/590? Ever wonder which one you should buy? Which one is better?
Both shotguns have their pros & cons. In my opinion one is not necessarily better than the other. What it really boils down to is which shotgun has the "features" you want/need.
The best way to decide which shotgun is best for you is to know the features that separate them. Do not buy a gun based on some guy simply saying "brand X" is the best and has no facts to back it up.
I did not talk about pistol grip shotguns in this video because I wanted to keep it basic and below 30 minutes long. I will talk about the pros & cons of pistol grip shotguns in a separate video.
You can also increase the capacity of a Mossberg by either buying a conversion kit or buying a Persuader or 590 model or a Maverick 88 or a Mariner with a bigger capacity.

The weapon has a total ammunition capacity of 6 (2 3/4") shells including one in the chamber but the capacity can be reduced if using 3" shells. Included in the box when purchased is your trigger lock, owners manual, sling attachments, Large allen wrench tool, product registration info, and two stocks which are the soft polymer pistol grip stock as well as a black synthectic stock. It has an 18.5" blued barrel and the overall lengths are as follows: 27 1/2" with the pistol grip and 38" with the regular stock. The release lever is made on the left side of the shotgun so when using the pistol grip stock it is a thumb release only. With the firearm also comes a 10 year limited warranty and does not cover the following:
1.Normal wear & tear
2.Failure to perform proper care & maintenance
3.Accidents, abuse or neglect
4.Barrel or bore obstructions
5.Failure to follow the instructions and warnings that accompany the mossberg firearm
6.The use of defective, non-saami standard, remanufactured, hand-loaded, and/or reloaded ammunition.
