Welcome

The CIRA library collects, preserves and makes available a collection of books, periodicals and documents in all languages concerning the anarchist movement, its history and ideas. It was founded in Geneva in 1957.

The current collection includes 18'000 books and pamphlets, 4'000 periodicals titles — 200 of them still publishing — audio and video recordings. This part of the collection is entirely recorded in the catalogue. There are also some archives of persons, groups or organisations and an iconographic collection (postcards, posters and other pictures).

This collection, unique in Europe, was constituted over half a century by the donations of activists, publishers, anarchists groups or organizations. The library doesn't buy any document and is managed by voluntary helpers.

To get in touch, access the library and find its opening times, see the contact section. Lending conditions and subscription are described in the library section.
