This young Man is 5 years old.We are capable of great things if we only believed we were. Hats off to the Parents of this Chinese Phenom who I am sure we will be hearing from musically for a long time to come. He doesn't understand limitations that are taught and learned over years of indoctrination to a technological world that has Forgotten how to be Alive.

In July, 19-year-old pianist Benjamin Grosvenor made his debut at the Proms to great acclaim, wowing both audiences and critics with his performance of Liszt's Piano Concerto No 2 in A Major. The youngest ever soloist to perform in the First Night of the Proms, he returns to the Royal Albert Hall on August 6 to take on Britten's Piano Concerto.
In 2005, Imagine discovered this musical prodigy in the making. Alan Yentob talked to the 12-year-old Grosvenor about his success the previous year, in the piano section of The Young Musician of The Year Competition. This is another chance to see that documentary.
Imagine: Being a Concert Pianist gets under the lid of this extreme form of musicianship. Celebrated pianists, including Yevgeny Kissin, Vladimir Ashkenazy and Chinese wunderkind Lang Lang, talk intimately about their lives, their work and their motivation. Hats off to the Parents of this Chinese Phenom who I am sure we will be hearing from musically for a long time to come. He doesn't understand limitations that are taught and learned over years of indoctrination to a technological world that has Forgotten how to be Alive.

Adrian Romoff expresses his emotions with music as you can clearly see in the above video clip. The impressive quote from Adrian tonight was when asked if he was "That smart" (to skip so many grades) by Heidi Klum, he had a quick retort and said "According to reality, yes."
Adrian Romoff is from Atlanta, Georgia. Adrian first showed interest in strings at 2 1/2. Adrian began studying piano in earnest at 4 1/2, and his mother Olga Romoff has been his primary teacher. Previous attempts at working with an outside piano teacher were not as successful, said Ms. Romoff, noting Adrian was working through two and three books a week. At age 7, Adrian appeared on national television, charming Ellen DeGeneres in an interview.
Informed he was already in eighth grade, Heidi Klum from AGT asked, "You're that smart?"
"According to reality, yes," Adrian replied, matter-of-factly.
Adrian, 9, and precocious as they come, spent the first six years of his young life in Pittsburgh and now lives in Atlanta with his mother, Olga. His is a name well-known in these parts; uncle, Jeffrey, is president and CEO of UPMC.

Jazz Pianist Justin Kauflin in Concert
Justin Kauflin performed a solo piano concert in the Coolidge Auditorium. Works performed include several original compositions. Speaker Biography: Just Kauflin is a jazz pianist. Kauflin began playing music at the age of 6, learning both piano and violin and eventually leading many orchestral groups as concertmaster. Just a few years later, at the age of 11, Kauflin completely lost his sight due to a hereditary disorder. Yet, Kauflin continued his musical ambitions and started exploring jazz piano at the Virginia Governor's School for the Performing Arts. By 15 he was performing professionally, and in 2004 he was awarded a Presidential scholarship to attend William Paterson University in New Jersey, where he continued his study of jazz. This collection is meant as a humorous counterpoint to the previous videos. Mistakes range from the ubiquitous "neighbouring note" (to quote Blanche Selva) to half disasters a-la Anton Rubinstein. I have of course the greatest admiration for all the artists featured in this compilation of mishaps which serve to remind us that the bounds of possibility are being pushed by the performer and that even great pianists are human!

In this video, our three focus points are: Key Signatures (looking at how a key signature gets its name and how knowledge of the major scale is important in understanding this concept; also, moving you away from the idea of black and white notes), Time Signatures (how the primary time signature is 4/4, but 3/4 and 6/8 also exist - further research in your own time is recommended) and the Circle of Fourths/Fifths (discovering how all 12 keys are connected within a 12-note chromatic block by moving in intervals of a 4th and 5th, either up or down, in the major scale). I also demonstrate at the end how to find the relative minor scale; this will take some re-watching but it should become clear quite quickly.

Speaker Biography: Just Kauflin is a jazz pianist. Kauflin began playing music at the age of 6, learning both piano and violin and eventually leading many orchestral groups as concertmaster. Just a few years later, at the age of 11, Kauflin completely lost his sight due to a hereditary disorder. Yet, Kauflin continued his musical ambitions and started exploring jazz piano at the Virginia Governor's School for the Performing Arts. By 15 he was performing professionally, and in 2004 he was awarded a Presidential scholarship to attend William Paterson University in New Jersey, where he continued his study of jazz. He hasn't looked back since.
