Child born outside the UK:
1. Parent must be British at the time of birth or

3. If the child is born outside of the UK and is adopted by British parent where the adoption takes place outside of the UK:
-The country where the adoption takes place must be in the designated list (please see the description box of our YouTube video for more information).
- Child born outside the UK and adopted outside the UK in a designated country, would be eligible to apply for British nationality by registration provided that the adoption was legally carried out and supporting documentary evidence is submitted with the application. The adoption must be justified as having legally taken place and the parent must be British at the time of the adoption order and date of the child’s British nationality application.
If is key to take legal advice before entering into adoption proceedings outside the UK from UK Immigration law and UK Family law perspectives.
