Vienna (i/viˈɛnə/;German: Wien, pronounced [viːn]) is the capital and largest city of Austria, and one of the nine states of Austria. Vienna is Austria's primary city, with a population of about 1.8 million (2.6 million within the metropolitan area, nearly one third of Austria's population), and its cultural, economic, and political centre. It is the 7th-largest city by population within city limits in the European Union. Until the beginning of the 20th century it was the largest German-speaking city in the world, and before the splitting of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in World War I the city had 2 million inhabitants. Today it has the second largest number of German speakers after Berlin. Vienna is host to many major international organizations, including the United Nations and OPEC. The city lies in the east of Austria and is close to the borders of the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary. These regions work together in a European Centrope border region. Along with nearby Bratislava, Vienna forms a metropolitan region with 3 million inhabitants. In 2001, the city centre was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
A boys' choir is a choir primarily made up of choirboys who have yet to begin puberty or are in the early to middle stages of puberty and so retain their more highly pitched childhood voice type. Members of a boys' choir are technically known as trebles and often termed boy sopranos," although occasionally some boys sing in the alto range. Some boys' choirs of churches or cathedrals are further supported by older male voices singing tenor and bass; these singers are sometimes former choirboys.
Boys' choirs, as a Euro-American cultural tradition, developed in the Middle Ages. Boys were then responsible for contributing a treble sound to church music, since women were typically barred from the performance of sacred music in a public (gender mixed) context. Some of the oldest existing boys' choirs—such as the Vienna Boys' Choir—trace their roots back to this time.
In 1498, more than half a millennium ago, Emperor Maximilian I moved his court and his court musicians from Innsbruck to Vienna. He gave specific instructions that there were to be six boys among his musicians. For want of a foundation charter, historians have settled on 1498 as the official foundation date of the Vienna Hofmusikkapelle and—in consequence—the Vienna Boys' Choir. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the court, at mass, at private concerts and functions and on state occasions.
The Vienna Boys' Choir sang Tritsch Tratsch Polka (by Johann Strauss II) at the New Year's Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in 2012. Some other YouTube channels have this uploaded. Of course, the choice is yours!

Vienna is a city of music and the arts, where the compositions of Haydn and Mozart ar as alive today as the melodies of the Strauss family or ’sramli’ music. From among the many sights of the ’imperial city’ the Hofburg, Schönbrunn and Belvedere stand out, but we can not forget the City Hall, the Stephansdom, or the Kunsthistorische Museum either. The ferris-wheel of the Prater, the buildings of Hundertwasser and the Danube Tower show us the modern side of the city. A visit to Vienna would not be full without a coach trip or a wine tour in Grinzing. The imposing streets fulfil us with the atmosphere of the Monarchy, while in the cafes we can taste the famous Sacher cake or the Viennese kapuziner. -------------- Watch more travel videos ► http://goo.gl/HYQdhg Join us. Travel video about destination Vienna in Austria. Vienna is one of the world's most beautiful, historic cities, brimming with nostalgia and with all the grand architecture of a once glorious empire, for three centuries it was home to the Austrian monarchy. The architectural image of the city is dominated by the Ringstrasse, a four kilometre long boulevard which encircles the centre of the city. It was under the supervision of Maria Theresia that the magnificent royal residence, the Schönbrunn Palace, was completed. More than 1,700 beautifully-preserved rooms afforded the large Imperial family much freedom of movement and its magnificent interior décor is one of the most lavish of its time. The Palace Grounds contain the outstanding Neptune Fountain and at the highest point, the Gloriette...

I received a request from Wiener Sängerknaben / Vienna Boys Choir (official) to remove my last posting, which I did, despite it being published 54 years ago and was surely out of copyright. They then complained to YouTube about another posting, also over 50 years old resulting in my channel getting 2 strikes. I think it is rather sad that they are not allowing a few tracks from these ancient recordings to be heard again, long after they are out of print. The epitome of mean mindedness. One more strike and the whole channel will be deleted so I am disinclined to make any more postings here. I will try out another posting site.
