Tilt–shift photography is the use of camera movements on small- and medium-format cameras, and sometimes specifically refers to the use of tilt for selective focus, often for simulating a miniature scene.
Sometimes the term is used when the large depth of field is simulated with digital post-processing; the name may derive from a perspective control lens (or tilt–shift lens) normally required when the effect is produced optically.
"Tilt–shift" encompasses two different types of movements: rotation of the lens plane relative to the image plane, called tilt, and movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, called shift.
Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp; it makes use of the Scheimpflug principle. Shift is used to adjust the position of the subject in the image area without moving the camera back; this is often helpful in avoiding the convergence of parallel lines, as when photographing tall buildings.
Time Lapse is the first live album by guitarist Steve Hackett. The album is drawn from live performances at the Savoy Theater in New York City (during the Cured tour) and at Central TV Studios in Nottingham.

Today, I want to show you how to do time-lapses that look like you’re in a miniature or tiny world, aka. the tilt-shift effect. In reality, this is a simple technique that can be done in any editing program. I'm going to show how to do it in FCPX, but once you see what I do here I think you can follow along in AE, Photoshop, or Premiere. But before I get to that, I should probably explain why this technique is called the tilt-shift effect. That’s simply because you can simulate this miniature world on larger scales with a tilt-shift lens. The best tutorial I’ve seen about that is this one from Canon’s Vincent Laforet - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qo3nYcDCuc but essentially you can take a lens like this and use the tilt function to change the plane of focus. However, what kind o...

John Warkentin, the Technology Evangelist at michaels camera presents a range of live demonstrations, samples and applications of Tilt-Shift Lenses across a wide selection of topics in this 42 minute Live Seminar held as part of our long running free Lunchtime series held in-store in Melbourne at the corner of Elizabeth and Lonsdale Street. The live demonstrations in this seminar utilise a Full Frame Canon 5DMk3 and the Canon TS-E 45mm F2.8 Lens. It is running Tethered with the Canon EOS Utility in Liveview mode enabling a real time view of what the camera is seeing. It is this feature of the modern DSLR which greatly simplifies the use of the all manual controls of the Tilt-Shift Lens. The subject for this live capture demonstration is a line of additional Tilt-Shift Lenses that are bot...
I have been asked many many times how I make these images, so here's the tutorial. Now first of all, I didn't name this method, I can thank the community at Photography On The Net for that one, and thank you :) Since I don't own a tilt-shift lens, I figured a way to mimick the bokeh transition of a TS lens by shooting different focus areas and focus stacking them in Photoshop. It will never match the TS in terms of quality, but it looks neat and does the job. This method isn't just for Starscapes though, works well with any landscape shot! Software used: Photoshop Illustrator Lightroom The shot used in this tutorial was photographed at Okarito, on the West Coast of the South Island in NZ.
