This video is about depression, right from a person with major depressive disorder, right while I'm feeling it pretty hard. This is my first video out of the many that I will be posting about mental health, mental illnesses, and destigmatization.
This is the first video of my Welcome to my Life series, where I take you right in, nice and personal, to the moments where I'm feeling at my weakest.
The point of my videos, posts, art, and everything is to help people. Plain and simple. Whether it's to understand mental illnesses, to know that they're not alone, to know that it's okay to talk about mental illnesses, that most people suffer from a mental illness at some point in their life, to help their self or others, or any other reason out there.
I will be honest in my videos. Very honest. Whether it is informing you about my own struggles, or the facts about mental illnesses and health.

It is one that I have been working on over the last couple of days in an effort to tell you about my death of a heart attack on January 15, 2013, in the examination of the admission room at Summit Hospital in Hermitage, Tennessee, in the emergency room. It was on this date that I took my wife and granddaughter, Alana to have a muscle strain examined that my wife had been struggling with over the last couple of weeks. While she was being examined in the admission room, I took a seat at the end of her bed, and laid back to rest my eyes, and had a heart attack, witnessed by my wife, granddaughter and medical personell from the emergency room. During the course of this excitment, i was dead for approxiomately 8-10 minutes, having lost my counsciousness, my pulse and my heart beat. After vigerous efforts on the part of the medical staff, the wailing and pleading of my wife and grand daughter for my life (joined by all of the other medical personall who had gathered in the hallway because of all of the noise and crying, I regained my counsciousness, pulse and heart beat and came back to life. In short, I died for approximately 8-10 minutes, and came back to life. This is the essence of the story that can be easily varified. I want you to know about this story because much information has bee posted on the various social media websites about my sickness and death. I am still alive. This video is about how to deal with depression. In order to deal with depression and cope with your condition effectively, you first have to understand what causes depression. It may seem as if your depression is created by their being something factually wrong with you or your life, but that’s actually not true. If it was, then you would be forced to be dealing with depression in every moment that the facts were the same.
But, that’s not the case. While your job, house, appearance, personality remain the same, you stop feeling depressed in any moment that you are distracted from your thoughts. That means that depression is created by thoughts not by facts. That means your feelings aren’t created by anything being wrong with you.
How to deal with depression, and cope with your condition? Recognize that who you are is not a depressed person. You are there, and feelings come and go. Sometimes sadness is here, sometimes joy, sometimes hopelessness. None of those feelings are who you are. They are a feeling in a moment.
How to deal with depression, and cope with your condition? Find what thoughts are creating your feelings of depression. In dealing with depression, any time you have the unwanted feelings of depression, it is because there are thoughts or stories that are being played in your mind. If you want to lose your depression, you first have to identify what specific stories or thoughts are going on that are creating the depression. Write these thoughts or stories down on paper.
How to deal with depression, and cope with your condition? Investigate the validity of the thoughts that are going on in your mind. If a thought says “I am worthless” or “I am a failure” question that assumption. Ask yourself “Can I think of any reasons, evidence, or examples as to why the opposite might be true?” Don’t try to convince yourself that you’re great. Try to ask questions that enable you to discover that your original negative assumptions about yourself and your life might not be true or valid.

Ive never experienced these emotions in my life, I am still detoxing from that horrible birth control pill & adjusting to the ant-depressant to help me with the adjustment. I definitely need to occupy my mind more & keep busy! When im alone I have too much time to think! If any of my fellow New Yorkers have any volunteer & par-time job opportunities in Nassau County- please shoot me a message! I am very determined to overcome this. I might slack on my videos just a little bit while I figure things out, but please hang in there with me you guys. You all inspire me SO much, and I promise i will never leave you! But, the truth is that facts don't create depression. If facts did create depression, then you would feel depressed in every moment that the facts remained the same. However, you don't feel depression in every moment. In any moment that you're distracted from the thoughts that say "there is something wrong with me (or my life)", then you don't feel depression.
If you want to stop feeling depression, if you want to know how to deal with depression, the answer is to look at what thoughts are going through your head when you feel depressed... and then look to see whether they are true/real or not.
