The Atrium Part 2
Julia Titi's collection focuses primarily on her familial ties and romantic entanglements. It contains two portraits of her, as well as busts of Domitian and Domitia Longina, respectively. As the beautiful only daughter of Titus, Julia Titi was known as a charismatic socialite. She married Sabinus, her second cousin, but became involved in scandal when she began an affair with her uncle Domitian. He was married to Domitia Longina, whose bust is featured in the exhibit. After many years of a highly transparent affair, Julia became pregnant and died during an abortive surgery. This subdivision also features Domitian Square and the Temple of Domitian, as they may have been locales that she visited throughout her adulthood.
True to the overarching theme of ideal womanhood, Faustina the Younger's sectional spotlights her beauty and fecundity. As the most fertile empress in Roman antiquity, she was celebrated on coinage, as shown in the exhibit, and depicted with many children surrounding her. The most famous of her offspring is Commodus, who is commemorated for annexing new territories and is featured in the exhibit.

Janet has even published her findings in an academic journal, and some now call her a 'hair archaeologist.' The Temple of Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder in the Roman Forum in Rome is the best-preserved surviving temple honoring a Roman emperor and empress. Erected by Antoninus Pius in A.D. 141 in honor of his deceased wife, it was rededicated after his own death in A.D. 161 by his adoptive sons and heirs, Marcus Aurelius and Lucius Verus. The temple is preserved largely because it was transformed in the 17th century into the Church of San Lorenzo in Miranda and the location of the 17th-century doors exemplify the shift in ground level from antiquity to today.

Both women were deified by their husbands, but their married lives couldn't have been more different. Faustina's husband Antonius Pius did not remarry for the twenty years that he survived her. By contrast, Sabina allegedly deliberately remained childless because she claimed that any child fathered by Hadrian would be a "monster," while Hadrian reportedly thought Sabina was a "disagreeable character."

Faustina the Younger
Annia Galeria Faustina Minor (Minor is Latin for the Younger), Faustina Minor or Faustina the Younger (born probably 21 Septemberc. 130 CE, died in winter of 175 or spring of 176 CE) was a daughter of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius and Roman Empress Faustina the Elder. She was a Roman Empress and wife to her maternal cousin Roman Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Though Roman sources give a generally negative view of her character, she was held in high esteem by soldiers and her own husband and was given divine honours after her death.
Life
Early life
Faustina, named after her mother, was her parents' fourth and youngest child and their second daughter; she was also their only child to survive to adulthood. She was born and raised in Rome.
Her great uncle, the emperor Hadrian, had arranged with her father for Faustina to marry Lucius Verus. On 25 February 138, she and Verus were betrothed. Verus’ father was Hadrian’s first adopted son and his intended heir; however, when Verus’ father died, Hadrian chose Faustina’s father to be his second adopted son, and eventually, he became Hadrian’s successor. Faustina’s father ended the engagement between his daughter and Verus and arranged for Faustina's betrothal to her maternal cousin, Marcus Aurelius; Aurelius was also adopted by her father.

Agrippina the Younger
Julia Agrippina, most commonly referred to as Agrippina Minor or Agrippina the Younger, and after AD 50 known as Julia Augusta Agrippina (Minor; Latin for the "younger"; 7 November 15 (or possibly 7 November AD 14 or 6 November 16) – 19/23 March 59), was a Roman Empress and one of the more prominent women in the Julio-Claudian dynasty. She was a great-granddaughter of the Emperor Augustus, great-niece and adoptive granddaughter of the Emperor Tiberius, sister of the Emperor Caligula, niece and fourth wife of the Emperor Claudius, and mother of the Emperor Nero.
Agrippina the Younger has been described by the ancient and modern sources as ruthless, ambitious, violent, and domineering. She was a beautiful and reputable woman and according to Pliny the Elder, she had a double canine in her upper right jaw, a sign of good fortune. Many ancient historians accuse Agrippina of poisoning Emperor Claudius, though accounts vary.
Family
Agrippina was the first daughter and fourth living child of Agrippina the Elder and Germanicus. She had three elder brothers, Nero Caesar, Drusus Caesar and the future Emperor Caligula, and two younger sisters, Julia Drusilla and Julia Livilla. Agrippina's two elder brothers and her mother were victims of the intrigues of the Praetorian Prefect Lucius Aelius Sejanus.

Faustina the Elder
Annia Galeria Faustina, sometimes referred to as Faustina I (Latin: Faustina Major; born on February 16 around 100 CE; died in October or November of 140 CE), was a Roman empress and wife of the Roman emperor Antoninus Pius. She died early in the principate of Antoninus Pius, but continued to be prominently commemorated as a diva, posthumously playing a prominent symbolic role in Antoninus Pius' régime.
Early life
Faustina was the only known daughter of consul and prefect Marcus Annius Verus and Rupilia Faustina. Her brothers were consul Marcus Annius Libo and praetor Marcus Annius Verus. Her maternal aunts were Roman Empress Vibia Sabina and Matidia Minor. Her paternal grandfather was named Marcus Annius Verus, like her father, while her maternal grandparents were Salonia Matidia (niece of Roman Emperor Trajan) and suffect consul Lucius Scribonius Libo Rupilius Frugi Bonus. Faustina was born and raised in Rome.
