White Dwarf is a 1995 science fiction TV movie written by Bruce Wagner, directed by Peter Markle, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Halmi Sr. and Bruce Wagner for American Zoetrope. Originally intended as a television pilot, the film first aired on the Fox Network on May 23, 1995. While expected to be well received, the film instead garnered generally negative reception. Negative reception notwithstanding, the project received a 1995 ASC Awards nomination for 'Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography'.
The pilot wasn't picked up for syndication and aired only once, and it never recieved a commercial release to my knowledge. As such, the only copies easily available are those recorded off of television from its first and only broadcast or promotional VHS screeners sent out to TV critics. This transfer is from one of the aforementioned promotional screeners and represents perhaps one of the best quality viewing options currently available.
In the year 3040, New York medical student Driscoll Rampart (Neal McDonough) is completing his internship on Rusta, a rural planet which due to it being tidally locked to its primary, is divided into contrasting halves of day and night with the halves separated by a wall. The two sides are involved in a civil war: The day side containing a Victorian-styled colony is at odds with the night containing a medieval kingdom. The differences between the two cultures leaves Rampart in a state of wonder. Rampart arrives from Earth for a six-month stint at the Light Side clinic run by Dr. Akada (Paul Winfield). Rampart's ambition is to eventually set up a private practice in Manhattan on Park Avenue.

When a gas explosion vaporizes half a man's torso, Charlie Crews (Damian Lewis) and Dani Reese (Sarah Shahi) work to figure out if the explosion was an accident or arson. Their investigation reveals the man with half a torso was an IRS agent living a complex life complete with two careers and two wives. Could this IRS agent's quest to become a hero have gotten him killed? Meanwhile Detective Carl Ames (Roger Brown), who oversaw Crews' murder investigation, is found dead in the parking lot of the police station. Once again, Crews finds himself at the center of a murder investigation. Adam Arkin, Robin Weigert and Brooke Langton also star.

Seever, the exact opposite of Reese, is quite the over achiever. Crews and Seever get right to work on the murder of a court reporter who was clubbed to death with a three iron. The reporter turns up dead after becoming pen pals with a convict who was imprisoned for a jewelry heist. Sarah Shahi, Donal Logue and Adam Arkin also star.

Preeminent conservationist David Brower called him his conscience: in the 1950’s when the Bureau of Reclamation proposed two dams in the Grand Canyon—one at Marble Canyon and the other at Bridge Canyon—the late Martin Litton made sure the Sierra Club didn't acquiesce. Martin believed the best way for people to understand how important it was to preserve the Grand Canyon was to have them experience this secret world from the river, but not in just any boat. Martin pioneered whitewater dories on the Colorado River in the 1960’s and started a proud tradition of naming the boats after wild places that had been lost or compromised by the hand of man. Now, some 50 years later, America’s open-air cathedral faces continued threats from development and mining and it’s up to all of us to ensure the crown jewel of our National Park system is protected now and for future generations. Martin’s Boat is a film that honors the legacy of Martin Litton and follows the newest boat in the Grand Canyon Dories fleet, the Marble Canyon, on its maiden voyage down the legendary Colorado River through the grandest canyon on Earth.

Peter Markle
Peter Markle (born September 24, 1952) is an American film director, television director and screenwriter. He has directed episodes of Everwood, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, The X-Files, as well as many other programs. He was director of the 2006 television film, Flight 93 and he also directed the 1982 romantic comedy film The Personals and the 1994 comedy western film Wagons East!
Markle married actress Melinda Culea in 1996.

White Dwarf is a 1995 science fiction TV movie written by Bruce Wagner, directed by Peter Markle, and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Robert Halmi Sr. and Bruce Wagner for American Zoetrope. Originally intended as a television pilot, the film first aired on the Fox Network on May 23, 1995. While expected to be well received, the film instead garnered generally negative reception. Negative reception notwithstanding, the project received a 1995 ASC Awards nomination for 'Outstanding Achievement in Cinematography'.
The pilot wasn't picked up for syndication and aired only once, and it never recieved a commercial release to my knowledge. As such, the only copies easily available are those recorded off of television from its first and only broadcast or promotional VHS screeners sent out to TV critics. This transfer is from one of the aforementioned promotional screeners and represents perhaps one of the best quality viewing options currently available.
In the year 3040, New York medical student Driscoll Rampart (Neal McDonough) is completing his internship on Rusta, a rural planet which due to it being tidally locked to its primary, is divided into contrasting halves of day and night with the halves separated by a wall. The two sides are involved in a civil war: The day side containing a Victorian-styled colony is at odds with the night containing a medieval kingdom. The differences between the two cultures leaves Rampart in a state of wonder. Rampart arrives from Earth for a six-month stint at the Light Side clinic run by Dr. Akada (Paul Winfield). Rampart's ambition is to eventually set up a private practice in Manhattan on Park Avenue.

Preeminent conservationist David Brower called him his conscience: in the 1950’s when the Bureau of Reclamation proposed two dams in the Grand Canyon—one at Marble Canyon and the other at Bridge Canyon—the late Martin Litton made sure the Sierra Club didn't acquiesce. Martin believed the best way for people to understand how important it was to preserve the Grand Canyon was to have them experience this secret world from the river, but not in just any boat. Martin pioneered whitewater dories on the Colorado River in the 1960’s and started a proud tradition of naming the boats after wild places that had been lost or compromised by the hand of man. Now, some 50 years later, America’s open-air cathedral faces continued threats from development and mining and it’s up to all of us to ensure the crown jewel of our National Park system is protected now and for future generations. Martin’s Boat is a film that honors the legacy of Martin Litton and follows the newest boat in the Grand Canyon Dories fleet, the Marble Canyon, on its maiden voyage down the legendary Colorado River through the grandest canyon on Earth.
