Double (cricket)

A cricketer is said to achieve the double if he scores a thousand or more runs and also takes a hundred or more wickets in first-class matches during the course of a single season. The feat is extremely rare outside England because of the smaller number of first-class matches played in most other countries. It has also become very uncommon in England in recent decades because of the reduction in the first-class programme in favour of more List A matches, last being achieved by Franklyn Stephenson in 1988.

Wilfred Rhodes performed the double more often than anyone else, 16 times. George Hirst achieved the feat on 14 occasions, including a unique "double double" in 1906 of 2385 runs and 208 wickets. Jim Parks senior managed the unique double of 3000 runs and 100 wickets in 1937. Maurice Tate, who scored 1193 runs and took 116 wickets during the MCC tour of India and Ceylon in 1926-27, is the only cricketer to achieve the feat outside England.

The "wicketkeeper's double", of one thousand runs and one hundred dismissals in a season, is very rare, having only been achieved by Les Ames, on three occasions, and by John Murray.

Double (manifold)

In the subject of manifold theory in mathematics, if is a manifold with boundary, its double is obtained by gluing two copies of together along their common boundary. Precisely, the double is where for all .

Although the concept makes sense for any manifold, and even for some non-manifold sets such as the Alexander horned sphere, the notion of double tends to be used primarily in the context that is non-empty and is compact.

Given a manifold , the double of is the boundary of . This gives doubles a special role in cobordism.

Examples

The n-sphere is the double of the n-ball. In this context, the two balls would be the upper and lower hemi-sphere respectively. More generally, if is closed, the double of is . Even more generally, the double of a disc bundle over a manifold is a sphere bundle over the same manifold. More concretely, the double of the Möbius strip is the Klein bottle.

If is a closed, oriented manifold and if is obtained from by removing an open ball, then the connected sum is the double of .

"Double" is BoA's 10th Japanese single and 2nd Korean single. She won at MTV Video Music Awards Japan for best dance video with the music video of this song. It was a number two hit in Japan.

Form (programming)

In component-based programming (Visual Basic, .NET WinForms, Delphi, Lazarus etc.), a form is a representation of a GUI window. A form contains components and controls typically including "OK" and "Cancel" buttons, these objects provide a high-level abstraction of standard or custom widgets which are typically much easier to manipulate than the GUI's underlying API.

At design time, visual controls (buttons, text boxes, and the like) and non-visual components (timers, database connections, layout aids and so on) are placed on the form. These controls and components are positioned and sized interactively, and their properties and event handlers are set with a special editor typically laid out as a grid.

At runtime, automatically generated code creates instances of these controls and components, and sets their properties.

Historically, forms were often implemented as screens on a block-oriented terminal connected to a mainframe computer. HTML forms are conceptually very similar.

Forma is a Latin word meaning "form". Both the word "forma" and the word "form" are used interchangeably as informal terms in biology:

Form (botany)

In botanical nomenclature, a form (forma, plural formae) is one of the "secondary" taxonomic ranks, below that of variety, which in turn is below that of species; it is an infraspecific taxon. If more than three ranks are listed in describing a taxon, the "classification" is being specified, but only three parts make up the "name" of the taxon: a genus name, a specific epithet, and an infraspecific epithet.

The abbreviation "f." or the full "forma" should be put before the infraspecific epithet to indicate the rank. It is not italicised.
