Nigeria: BOI, Amnesty Office to Train Ex-Militants On Skills

The Bank of Industry (BOI) and the Office of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in the Niger Delta have started plans to providing business support and capacity building for ex-militants.

This was disclosed yesterday in Abuja when the Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme in the Niger Delta, Brig-Gen. Paul Boro (rtd), paid a call on the Acting Director-General of the Bank, Mr Waheed Olagunju.

Brig-Gen. Boro (rtd) sought the assistance of the BOI in the final stage of the amnesty programme which involves reintegration of the ex-militants into the Niger-Delta.

In addition, to providing soft loans for the ex-militants to start-up businesses when they exit the programme, the Coordinator sought for BOI's assistance in training the youths in different value chains of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

The BOI boss, Mr Olagunju said providing funds for the participants of the programme would not be enough to ensure their survival after exiting the programme as capacity building would be the guarantee that the funds would be well managed and repaid.
