"It's 1978 and the world of F1 is gathered at Anderstorp for the Swedish Grand Prix. Bernie Ecclestone's Brabham team is causing a commotion in the pit lane with its new car.
Brabham's brilliant young designer Gordon Murray has stuck an eighteen inch diameter fan on the back of the car -- ostensibly to cool the engine, but with the crucial side effect of sucking the car to the road.
As Murray recalls; 'The Fan Car went round hairpin bends as fast as 150 mph bends. It had a massive advantage.' Brabham's rivals, from Colin Chapman and Mario Andretti to Niki Lauda and Ronnie Peterson, are outraged -- but the Fan Car races on."

A few months before uploading this video we uploaded one in which the BT42 is revving in the pitbox at the Spa 6 Hours 2014. Due to the good response that video got lately we decided it was time to unleash the beast and set it on its way on the network we call YouTube! So here is a video of this wonderful machine in action.
This was by far one of the most impressive F1 cars we saw that day. The sound is incredible and the speed even more so. In one of the shots you can see the car spinning its wheels when coming out of the bus stop chicane directly overtaking someone else like there is no tomorrow.
The BT42 is powered by a 3.0l V8 90 degree Ford Cosworth F1 engine which you can see in a close-up in the video. The engine produces 450 BHP at 10 800 rpm and weighs around 180 kg. The car in total weighs 575 kg.
Now, let's see how many people actually read this!
Fun fact in my opinion: the car's fuel capacity is 48.9 US Gal or 186 Litres which at cruising range is good for about 780 miles or 1255 kilometers. This means that you can cruise through a nice part of the Swiss Alps for example with this car without having to stop for fuel after every mountain road. Motor Racing Developments Ltd., commonly known as Brabham (
/ˈbræbəm/), was a British racing car manufacturer and Formula One racing team. Founded in 1960 by two Australians, driver Jack Brabham and designer Ron Tauranac, the team won four drivers' and two constructors' world championships in its 30-year Formula One history. Jack Brabham's 1966 drivers' championship remains the only such achievement using a car bearing the driver's own name.
In the 1960s, Brabham was the world's largest manufacturer of open wheel racing cars for sale to customer teams, and had built more than 500 cars by 1970. During this period, teams using Brabham cars won championships in Formula Two and Formula Three and competed in the Indianapolis 500. In the 1970s and 1980s, Brabham introduced innovations such as the "fan car"—which won its only race before being withdrawn—in-race refuelling, carbon brakes, and hydropneumatic suspension. The team won two more Formula One drivers' championships in the 1980s with Brazilian Nelson Piquet, and became the first to win a drivers' championship with a turbocharged car.

A few months before uploading this video we uploaded one in which the BT42 is revving in the pitbox at the Spa 6 Hours 2014. Due to the good response that video got lately we decided it was time to unleash the beast and set it on its way on the network we call YouTube! So here is a video of this wonderful machine in action. This was by far one of the most impressive F1 cars we saw that day. The sound is incredible and the speed even more so. In one of the shots you can see the car spinning its wheels when coming out of the bus stop chicane directly overtaking someone else like there is no tomorrow. Fun fact in my opinion: the car's fuel capacity is 48.9 US Gal or 186 Litres which at cruising range is good for about 780 miles or 1255 kilometers. This means that you can cruise through a nice part of the Swiss Alps for example with this car without having to stop for fuel after every mountain road.
