Mount Hood, called Wy'east by the Multnomah tribe, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon. It was formed by a subduction zone on the Pacific coast and rests in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. It is located about 50 miles (80 km) east-southeast of Portland, on the border between Clackamas and Hood River counties. In addition to being Oregon's highest mountain, it is one of the loftiest mountains in the nation based on its prominence.
The height assigned to Mount Hood's snow-covered peak has varied over its history. Modern sources point to three different heights: 11,249 feet (3,429 m), a 1991 adjustment of a 1986 measurement by the U.S. National Geodetic Survey (NGS),11,240 feet (3,426 m) based on a 1993 scientific expedition, and 11,239 feet (3,426 m) of slightly older origin. The peak is home to 12 named glaciers and snowfields. It is the highest point in Oregon and the fourth highest in the Cascade Range. Mount Hood is considered the Oregon volcano most likely to erupt, though based on its history, an explosive eruption is unlikely. Still, the odds of an eruption in the next 30 years are estimated at between 3 and 7 percent, so the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) characterizes it as "potentially active", but the mountain is informally considered dormant.

Timberline Lodge is a mountain lodge on the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, about 60 miles (97 km) east of Portland. Constructed from 1936 to 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, it was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression. Timberline Lodge was dedicated September 28, 1937, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
The National Historic Landmark sits at an elevation of 5,960 feet (1,817 m), within the Mount Hood National Forest and is accessible through the Mount Hood Scenic Byway. Publicly owned and privately operated, Timberline Lodge is a popular tourist attraction that draws two million visitors annually. It is noted in film for serving as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.
Timberline Lodge, a mountain lodge and resort hotel, is a four-story structure comprising approximately 40,000 square feet. The ground-level exterior walls are heavy rubble masonry, using boulders from the immediate area, and heavy timber is used from the first floor up. The central head house section is hexagonal and 60 feet in diameter, with a six-sided stone chimney stack 92 feet high and 14 feet in diameter. Each of the six fireplace openings—three on the ground floor, three on the first floor—is five feet wide and seven feet high. Two wings, running west and southeast, flank the head house. Oregon woods used throughout the building include cedar, Douglas fir, hemlock, western juniper and ponderosa pine.
Oregon (i/ˈɔːrᵻɡən/ AWR-ə-gən) is a state in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. Oregon is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean, on the north by Washington, on the south by California, on the east by Idaho, and on the southeast by Nevada. The Columbia River delineates much of Oregon's northern boundary, and the Snake River delineates much of the eastern boundary. The parallel 42° north delineates the southern boundary with California and Nevada. It is one of only three states of the contiguous United States to have a coastline on the Pacific Ocean, and the proximity to the ocean heavily influences the state's mild winter climate, despite the latitude.
Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived. An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843, the Oregon Territory was created in 1848, and Oregon became the 33rd state on February 14, 1859. Today, at 98,000 square miles, Oregon is the ninth largest and, with a population of 4 million, 26th most populous U.S. state. The capital of Oregon is Salem, the second most populous of its cities, with 160,614 residents (2013 estimate). With 609,456 residents (2013 estimate), Portland is the largest city in Oregon and ranks 29th in the U.S. Its metro population of 2,314,554 (2013 estimate) is 24th. The Willamette Valley in western Oregon is the state's most densely populated area, home to eight of the ten most populous cities.

What a great way to spend a spring day in Oregon. I drove scenic highway 26 to the historic Timberline Lodge on Mount Hood. I'd seen it before but never in person. I remember it as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in Stanley Kubrick's movie version of "The Shining." After a brief stop at the Lodge for pictures, I took off for Mirror Lake. I hiked the popular Mirror Lake Trail in the Mount Hood National Forest to find the source of the world-famous lakeside photos of Mount Hood and, thankfully, avoided any encounter with bears. It was an easy three-mile hike. Just Great!

OREGON'S MT. HOOD TERRITORY WINTER STYLE
In this travel video tour of Portland, Oregon, I travel to Portland, one of the most unique cities in the United States. I started my trip off by hopping off a plane and then immediately hopping onto a bus. But not just any bus, a bus operated by Brewvana Brewery Tours, the mostly women-run craft beer brewery tour company. Portland, or know as Beervana to some, is home to 55 breweries within its borders, and is truly a beer-lover's paradise. On my tour we made stops at Rogue Ales & Spirits, Laurelwood Pubic House & Brewery, Widmer Brothers Brewery and Sidecar Bar, where I had the chance to sit down over a pint with the founder and owner of Brewvana, Ashley Rose Salvitti. While in Portland, I stayed at the Tiny House Hotel, a hotel made up of, you guessed it, tiny houses. In the next po...

http://www.expedia.com/Portland.d178299.Destination-Travel-Guides Welcome to Portland, Oregon, where you can experience the laid-back atmosphere of the Pacific Northwest amid beautiful natural surroundings. A Portland tour is easily accomplished on foot; this city was designed for pedestrians, so you’ll be able to get around quickly. As you stroll along, you’ll find plenty of parks, fountains, and buildings old and new to explore. Be warned, this city is known for its sudden showers, so make sure you bring an umbrella to shield yourself until the sun makes a triumphant return. If you like a good brew, you’re going to love Portland’s alter-ego, Beervana – so named thanks to all the breweries located here. Wine snobs, don’t despair; you’ll find plenty to drink (responsibly) in the Willame...

This KGW Archive presentation takes viewers through the long painful hours as rescuers searched for missing climbers from the Oregon Episcopal School. It was one of the worst mountaineering tragedies in U.S. history. May 12th, 1986, fear gripped friends and families of thirteen people from the Oregon Episcopal School who were missing on Mt. Hood. Ten sophomore students, two teachers and a guide from the school had been close to the summit but turned around and began the climb down when the weather turned treacherous, with 60 mile-per-hour winds and heavy snow. They didn’t get far before they realized the blinding snow and frigid cold would force them to shelter in place. At the base of the mountain, concern turned to fear, then to dread as the climbers failed to appear and night beg...
I went on another awesome group ride with Latus Harley-Davidson. It looked as though only 20 bikes were going to show up, but there ended up being around 110 bikes in three or four groups! We took a beautiful trip down the Columbia Gorge then up and around Mt Hood. The weather ended up being perfect (upper 60's to lower 70's). What an awesome day! It ended up being a 307 mile trip for me on the Iron. I did fine, was quite comfortable, and of course, the Iron did perfect! Sure loved the look of that Candy Red Dyna Street Bob riding next to me! All alone
Where are you
Are we over
Something said
Wish we had
All those good times
Hey, hey where should we go today
I brought you in here to stay
Again, look what we've done today
If im going then ill see the past
I keep on going but im feelin jaded
Dont keep runnin babe ill be there in wasteland
Yeah
You start the fight
Dont you leave, it aint over
The suns so bright
One more life
Lets start over
Hey, hey look where we are today
I wanna make sure youll stay with me
Look what we've done today
If im going then ill see the past
I keep on going but im feelin jaded
If im runnin then ill be fine in wasteland
Yeah
Hey, hey look what we've done today
I wanna make sure youll stay with me
Look what we've done today
If im going then il see the past
I keep on going but im feelin jaded
