Three hours of Caltrain, Amtrak and ACE action at Santa Clara, filmed on January 28th, 2016. Santa Clara is the first station north of San Jose Diridon, located at the junction between the JPBX (Caltrain) and UP (Union Pacific) routes used by Amtrak and ACE.
Three Union Pacific locomotives make a cameo appearance in the sidings, but there were no freight trains. This year I decided to keep filming into the dark as long as I could, trying to make the best use of the station lighting. I had to leave at 7pm to catch my flight to Seattle.

From railfan view from the northbound 8:03 express train from San Jose to San Francisco's 4th and King Street Station. This is officially classified as the last morning "Baby Bullet" train in the schedule, but I got lucky and scored a Gallery Car trainset with a reasonably clean railfan window. Station stops at Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, Redwood City San Mateo and Milbrae have been edited out.
This is a replacement for my previous "dirty window" video taken way back in 2012. Enjoy!

Caltrain is working on the Caltrain Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project to develop a new advanced signal system. The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will meet two specific criteria:
Meet the Federal mandate to implement PTC by 2015; and
Increase system capacity to allow for future increases in ridership demand.
Benefits from PTC: The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will include PTC requirements as federally mandated by the Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2008, which requires the installation of PTC on all commuter railroads and some freight railroads by 2015. PTC helps to eliminate train-to-train collisions and over-speed mishaps (trains exceeding the civil speed limit). The train will be automatically stopped when there is a violation of speed or when there is a violation of route. It also provides additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks and requires interoperability between all rail services operating on the same tracks. This interoperability assures compliance among all vehicles using the same tracks with the PTC system. This is important for Caltrain as other operators on Caltrain tracks include commuter rail, freight, and future high-speed rail.
Additional CBOSS Benefits for Caltrain:
• The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project also specifies additional capabilities to enable increased safety and operating performance for Caltrain and future high-speed rail service. These additional benefits include:
• Increased operating performance of the current signal system, enabling more frequent and more dependable passenger service to meet growing demand.
• Improved grade crossing warning functions: Integrated communication among all subsystems (such as the central control facility, train and wayside) for improved safety performance for highway vehicles and the riding public.
Safe operations between Caltrain and other tenant railroads including future high-speed rail.

Caltrain (reporting mark JPBX) is a California commuter rail line on the San Francisco Peninsula and in the Santa Clara Valley (Silicon Valley). The northern terminus of the rail line is in San Francisco, at 4th and King streets; its southern terminus is in Gilroy. Trains operate out of San Francisco and San Jose on an approximately hourly basis every weekday, with more frequent service provided during commute hours and for special events (such as sporting events). Service between San Jose and Gilroy is limited to three daily commute-hour round trips. Average weekday ridership in February 2012 was 42,354 persons per day, up 12.1% from February, 2011.
Caltrain is governed by the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (PCJPB), which consists of three member agencies from the three counties in which Caltrain line serves. Each member agency sends three representatives to constitute a nine member Board of Directors. The member agencies are the City and County of San Francisco, SamTrans and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority

This is a ride aboard CalTrain 152 - a local service from San Francisco to San Jose, CA. Train 152 leaves San Francisco at 2:07pm and is scheduled to arrive at San Jose Diridon at 3:38pm, though we were roughly seven minutes late on this trip. This was recorded for posterity due to the impending electrification and modernization project by CalTrain. Remember, if you use a Clipper Card like me - tag on AND remember to tag off at the end of your journey! Caltrain, Amtrak and ACE at Santa Clara (January 28th, 2016)
Three hours of Caltrain, Amtrak and ACE action at Santa Clara, filmed on January 28th, 2016. Santa Clara is the first station north of San Jose Diridon, located at the junction between the JPBX (Caltrain) and UP (Union Pacific) routes used by Amtrak and ACE. Three Union Pacific locomotives make a cameo appearance in the sidings, but there were no freight trains. This year I decided to keep filming into the dark as long as I could, trying to make the best use of the station lighting. I had to leave at 7pm to catch my flight to Seattle. -

This is officially classified as the last morning "Baby Bullet" train in the schedule, but I got lucky and scored a Gallery Car trainset with a reasonably clean railfan window. Station stops at Sunnyvale, Menlo Park, Redwood City San Mateo and Milbrae have been edited out. This is a replacement for my previous "dirty window" video taken way back in 2012. Enjoy! -

Caltrain is working on the Caltrain Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project to develop a new advanced signal system. The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will meet two specific criteria: Meet the Federal mandate to implement PTC by 2015; and Increase system capacity to allow for future increases in ridership demand. Benefits from PTC: The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will include PTC requirements as federally mandated by the Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2008, which requires the installation of PTC on all commuter railroads and some freight railroads by 2015. This is a ride aboard CalTrain 152 - a local service from San Francisco to San Jose, CA. Train 152 leaves San Francisco at 2:07pm and is scheduled to arrive at San Jose Diridon at 3:38pm, though we were roughly seven minutes late on this trip. San Francisco Downtown Extension Tunnel for Caltrain & High Speed Rail
In 2008 I was hired by the Transbay Joint Powers Authority to create an animation that fully Illustrated a proposed massive tunnel that would bring Califronia High Speed Rail as well as a newly electrified Caltrain to the heart of downtown San Francisco. A cutaway 3-D model was created of the entire route, complete with accurately depicted buildings on the surface and detailed tunnel ammenities below. It is worth noting that the hypothetical solar & wind farm shown in the Bayshore area could potetially power an entire future Caltrain railway. True Line Trains HO MPXpress CalTrain MP36
Got myself an irresistible Christmas present. It is an MpXpress MP36 CalTrain locomotive just DC, but adding DCC and sound it supposed to be very easy. The locomotive features great lighting and very good detail, even fully detailed cab. Defiantly worth it in my opinion. Per protocol I had to test it upon delivery from Modeltrainstuff MB Klien. Of course i had to test them with my first run of Athearn Bombardier Cars, which it looks like imma have to pick an extra one or two. ;) -

Caltrain is working on the Caltrain Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project to develop a new advanced signal system. The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will meet two specific criteria:

Benefits from PTC: The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will include PTC requirements as federally mandated by the Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2008, which requires the installation of PTC on all commuter railroads and some freight railroads by 2015. PTC helps to eliminate train-to-train collisions and over-speed mishaps (trains exceeding the civil speed limit). The train will be automatically stopped when there is a violation of speed or when there is a violation of route. It also provides additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks and requires interoperability between all rail services operating on the same tracks. This interoperability assures compliance among all vehicles using the same tracks with the PTC system. This is important for Caltrain as other operators on Caltrain tracks include commuter rail, freight, and future high-speed rail.
Additional CBOSS Benefits for Caltrain:
• The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project also specifies additional capabilities to enable increased safety and operating performance for Caltrain and future high-speed rail service. These additional benefits include:
• Increased operating performance of the current signal system, enabling more frequent and more dependable passenger service to meet growing demand.
• Improved grade crossing warning functions: Integrated communication among all subsystems (such as the central control facility, train and wayside) for improved safety performance for highway vehicles and the riding public.

Caltrain is working on the Caltrain Communications Based Overlay Signal System (CBOSS) Positive Train Control (PTC) Project to develop a new advanced signal system. The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will meet two specific criteria:
Meet the Federal mandate to implement PTC by 2015; and
Increase system capacity to allow for future increases in ridership demand.
Benefits from PTC: The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project will include PTC requirements as federally mandated by the Railroad Safety Improvement Act of 2008, which requires the installation of PTC on all commuter railroads and some freight railroads by 2015. PTC helps to eliminate train-to-train collisions and over-speed mishaps (trains exceeding the civil speed limit). The train will be automatically stopped when there is a violation of speed or when there is a violation of route. It also provides additional safety for railroad workers on the tracks and requires interoperability between all rail services operating on the same tracks. This interoperability assures compliance among all vehicles using the same tracks with the PTC system. This is important for Caltrain as other operators on Caltrain tracks include commuter rail, freight, and future high-speed rail.
Additional CBOSS Benefits for Caltrain:
• The Caltrain CBOSS PTC Project also specifies additional capabilities to enable increased safety and operating performance for Caltrain and future high-speed rail service. These additional benefits include:
• Increased operating performance of the current signal system, enabling more frequent and more dependable passenger service to meet growing demand.
• Improved grade crossing warning functions: Integrated communication among all subsystems (such as the central control facility, train and wayside) for improved safety performance for highway vehicles and the riding public.

In 2008 I was hired by the Transbay Joint Powers Authority to create an animation that fully Illustrated a proposed massive tunnel that would bring Califronia High Speed Rail as well as a newly electrified Caltrain to the heart of downtown San Francisco. A cutaway 3-D model was created of the entire route, complete with accurately depicted buildings on the surface and detailed tunnel ammenities below. It is worth noting that the hypothetical solar & wind farm shown in the Bayshore area could potetially power an entire future Caltrain railway. See if you can spot Elvis!

Got myself an irresistible Christmas present. It is an MpXpress MP36 CalTrain locomotive just DC, but adding DCC and sound it supposed to be very easy. The locomotive features great lighting and very good detail, even fully detailed cab. Defiantly worth it in my opinion. Per protocol I had to test it upon delivery from Modeltrainstuff MB Klien. Of course i had to test them with my first run of Athearn Bombardier Cars, which it looks like imma have to pick an extra one or two. ;)
