Salman Rushdie attack: new footage shows suspect tackled and removed off stage
New footage from the attack against award-winning author Salman Rushdie in New York on Friday has emerged, showing audience members tackling the suspected knifeman to the ground.
Rushdie is reportedly on a ventilator and may lose an eye after he was stabbed several times on stage at a literary festival.
Police confirmed the detention of Hadi Matar, 24, of Fairview, New Jersey, who they believed was acting alone, but said they had not yet established a motive.
Rushdie, a British author who has lived under the shadow of a fatwa imposed 33 years ago, was being introduced ahead of a talk when the assailant, dressed in black, ran at him from behind and attacked him. Matar remains in custody.
