Boogie-woogie is a musical genre that became popular during the late 1920s, but developed in African American communities in the 1870s. It was eventually extended from piano, to piano duo and trio, guitar, big band, country and western music, and gospel. While the blues traditionally expresses a variety of emotions, boogie-woogie is mainly associated with dancing. The lyrics of one of the earliest hits, "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie", consist entirely of instructions to dancers:
It is characterized by a regular left-hand bass figure, which is transposed following the chord changes.
Boogie-woogie is not strictly a solo piano style; it can accompany singers and be featured in orchestras and small combos. It is sometimes called "eight to the bar", as much of it is written in common time (4/4) time using eighth notes (quavers) (see time signature). The chord progressions are typically based on I - IV - V - I (with many formal variations of it, such as I/i - IV/iv - v/I, as well as chords that lead into these ones).
Elias /ᵻˈlaɪ.əs/ is the Latin transliteration of the Greek name Ἠλίας, which in turn is the Hellenized form of the Hebrew: אליהו, Eliyahu, meaning "Yahweh is my God". Another form of Eliyahu in English is Elijah /ᵻˈlaɪdʒə/.
The name belonged most notably to Elijah, the Hebrew prophet. The Quran refers to this prophet in Arabic as Ilias (إلياس), the prophet who was born in Baalbek, east of Lebanon. The King James Version of the Bible also uses "Elias" in the New Testament as the English translation of the Greek name for this prophet.
Andrew is the English form of a given name common in many countries. In the 1990s it was among the top ten most popular names for boys in English-speaking countries. In Italian, the equivalent to "Andrew" is "Andrea", though "Andrea" is feminine in most other languages. "Andrew" is frequently shortened to "Andy" or "Drew". The word is derived from the Greek: Ανδρέας, Andreas, itself related to Ancient Greek: ἀνήρ/ἀνδρός aner/andros, "man" (as opposed to "woman"), thus meaning "manly" and, as consequence, "strong", "courageous", and "warrior". In the King James Bible, the Greek "Ἀνδρέας" is translated as Andrew.
In 2000, the name Andrew was the second most popular name in Australia. In 1999, it was the 19th most common name, while in 1940, it was the 31st most common name. Andrew was the first most popular boys name in the Northern Territory in 2003 to 2015 and continuing. In Victoria, Andrew was the first most popular name for a boy in the 1970s.
Andrew was the 20th most popular name chosen for male infants in 2005. Andrew was the 16th most popular name for infants in British Columbia in 2004, the 17th most popular name in 2003, and the 19th most popular name in 2002. In 2001, it was the 18th most common name. From 1999 – 2003, Andrew was the sixth most often chosen name for a boy.

Boogie is a repetitive, swung note or shuffle rhythm,"groove" or pattern used in blues which was originally played on the piano in boogie-woogie music. The characteristic rhythm and feel of the boogie was then adapted to guitar, double bass, and other instruments. The earliest recorded boogie-woogie song was in 1916. By the 1930s, Swing bands such as Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Gerald Martin, and Louis Jordan all had boogie hits. By the 1950s, boogie became incorporated into the emerging rockabilly and rock and roll styles. In the late 1980s and the early 1990s country bands released country boogies. Today, the term "boogie" usually refers to dancing to pop, disco, or rock music.
The boogie was originally played on the piano in boogie-woogie music and adapted to guitar. Boogie-woogie is a style of blues piano playing characterized by an up-tempo rhythm, a repeated melodic pattern in the bass, and a series of improvised variations in the treble. Boogie woogie developed from a piano style that developed in the rough barrelhouse bars in the Southern states, where a piano player performed for the hard-drinking patrons. Wayne Schmidt remarks that with boogie-woogie songs, the "bass line isn't just a time keeper or 'fill' for the right hand"; instead, the bassline has equal importance to the right hand's melodic line. He argues that many boogie-woogie basslines use a "rising/falling sequence of notes" called walking bass line.

Movie recorded at the 2010 Dutch International Boogie Woogie Festival in Ermelo Holland, March 2010. One of the interesting features of this Festival is that after the Piano Masterclass {this year given by Ricky Nye from the USA}, fans and enthusiasts like myself can put their names forward to play a piece of music in front of an audience ... and on a very good piano! I decided to have a go at the 'Bumble Boogie', a piece of music I've been 'wrestling with' for some time and, well ... all things considered, I think it went pretty well ... and it was great to hear Ricky's tips and comments after I had finished.
Movie recorded both before {practice} and during {performance} the Dutch Boogie Woogie Festival, Ermelo in March 2009. Two slightly different versions of the same solo piano piece, each one shot from a different side so anyone who's perhaps interested can get a view of both the left and right hand parts. This is a self composition {in so much as anything riff based like this can be?!}. The first movie clip clearly shows a very unusual fingering technique I use with the left hand, i.e. often I don't use my *Little* {5th} Finger when playing fast Boogie Woogie - I substitute the 4th and 3rd {together!} instead. Watch closely at the 1.31, 2.34 and 2.55 minute timings for some quite adept finger 'switching' - I call it moving in and out of my special Boogie Woogie Turbo-Drive Mode, ...
Video/Movie Clip recorded at the 14th Annual La Roquebrou Boowie Woogie Festival, held in the small town of La Roquebrou in South Eastern France. The Movie starts with Chase Garrett {USA} playing some great solo piano in the main street of La Roquebrou on Friday afternoon. Later we play a brief duet with me trying out some of my recently learnt "Axel" left hand riffs {well - sort of, lol?!} and Chase doing his best to make me sound good with some fancy right hand work. After that, time for a wander down the main street to check out what's going on in some of the other Bars.
Movie recorded on one of the pianos at the Dutch Boogie Woogie Festival in Ermelo Holland, March 2010. This piece features me playing some very fast Boogie Woogie on a lovely upright piano {I have posted other earlier Movies playing this, but on my not so good Casio Digital Piano}. This is a self-composition, but I happily credit top UK Pianist Ben Waters for the initial inspiration of the 'straight-eighths' left hand pattern. From similar movies of me playing, several people have asked me about my technique of *NOT* using the little finger but substituting the 4th and 3rd fingers instead for extra speed and power, and at the end of the piece, I try and demonstrate how I do this?! {as well as having a little go at the Bumble Boogie Riff}.
Video/Music Clip recorded at a concert at the Hotel Hvide Hus in Køge, Denmark in November 2012. This is the 2nd year that the Køge Boogie Woogie has taken place, an event that Danish Festival Organiser Lasse Jensen hopes will become an established event on the International Boogie Woogie Circuit. One of the great pleasures of attending a top Intenational Boogie Woogie Festival is that there are always great {and expensive} pianos to be found ... and if you pick the right moment, you can have a go ... which of course, for someone like me is a real treat!! This is one heck of a left-hand Boogie Riff I've worked out .... and so I suppose this is perhaps best classed as an "Instructional Video" for anyone who might be interested.
A boogie woogie by "mister Travelchampion" Andrew Elias after the masterclass at the international boogie festival in Ermelo, the Netherlands.
Movie recorded at the 2010 UK Boogie Woogie Festival, held in the Dorset town of Sturminster Newton, July 2010. One of the smaller 'fringe' venues this year was the Cafe Expresso, where lots of informal piano playing was done by top pianists and fans/enthusiasts alike. Here, Patrick Smet from Belgium asked me to record him playing the classic Boogie piece : "Swanee River" as he wasn't completely happy with a Youtube Movie made 4-5 years ago. After he had finished, I play a few Bars before Lasse Jensen from Denmark {danishboogieboy on Youtube} plays his version. Please feel free to heighten our friendly piano playing rivalries by letting us know whose version you thought was the best {especially if by some miracle it happens to be mine, lol!!}. ------------------------------...

This is a slightly edited version of a compilation video made by Gari Jones. You can see the full video here: https://vimeo.com/115801417 Here is Gari's description: ===== This video is dedicated to everyone who still believes that real planes crashed on 9/11. I ask everyone to forget everything you have learned or have been told about 9/11. Start here with a fresh clean slate and let your mind go blank. For the information in this video will prove conclusively that NO REAL PLANES were used on 9/11. This subject has been talked about since at least 2005/6 and despite years of ridicule it is this information that stands out as the truth. Years of psychological mainstream media propaganda has poisoned peoples minds into accepting an official story so riddled with errors and impossibilitie...
