Charlie Brown

Charlie Brown is the central protagonist of the long-running comic strip Peanuts, syndicated in daily and Sunday newspapers in numerous countries all over the world. Depicted as a "lovable loser," Charlie Brown is one of the great American archetypes and a popular and widely recognized cartoon character. Charlie Brown is the leader of the Peanuts gang.

Charlie Brown is characterized as a person who frequently suffers, and as a result, is usually nervous and lacks self-confidence. He shows both pessimistic and optimistic attitudes: on some days, he is reluctant to go out because his day might just be spoiled, but on others, he hopes for the best and tries as much as he can to accomplish things.

The character's creator, Charles M. Schulz, has said of the character that "[He] must be the one who suffers, because he is a caricature of the average person. Most of us are much more acquainted with losing than winning." Despite this, Charlie Brown does not always suffer, as he has experienced some happy moments and victories through the years, and he has sometimes uncharacteristically shown self-assertiveness despite his frequent nervousness.

Charlie Brown (Australian footballer)

Charlie Brown (30 April 1896 - 9 April 1956) was an Australian rules footballer who played for Collingwood in the Victorian Football League (VFL).

Brown played as a defender over eight seasons for Collingwood in the VFL. In his second season, Brown won a premiership with Collingwood in their Grand Final win over Fitzroy.

Brown is not to be confused with another Charlie Brown who played 12 games with Carlton in 1898.

Tony Russell "Charles" Brown (September 13, 1922 – January 21, 1999) was an American blues singer and pianist whose soft-toned, slow-paced blues-club style influenced the development of blues performance during the 1940s and 1950s. He had several hit recordings, including "Driftin' Blues" and "Merry Christmas Baby".

Early life

Born in Texas City, Texas, Brown demonstrated his love of music as a child and received a classical music training on the piano. He graduated from Central High School of Galveston, Texas in 1939 and Prairie View A&M College in 1942 with a degree in chemistry. He then became a chemistry teacher at George Washington Carver High School of Baytown, Texas, a mustard gas worker at the Pine Bluff Arsenal at Pine Bluff, Arkansas, and an apprentice electrician at a shipyard in Richmond, California before settling in Los Angeles in 1943.

Charlie Brown's, Limehouse

Charlie Brown's was the common name for the Railway Tavern pub in Limehouse, London.

The pub was built c. 1840 on the corner of Garford Street and the West India Dock Road and greatly extended in 1919. The pub was demolished in November 1989 during construction of the Limehouse Link tunnel.

Source of the name

Charlie Brown was the landlord of the pub from 1893 until his death in June 1932.

The exotic location in Chinatown, the character of the landlord and his large collection of curiosities from around the world made Charlie Brown's a tourist attraction.

"Following his death, the 'uncrowned king of Limehouse' lay in state in his pub and his funeral procession was one of the biggest the East End had ever seen with 16,000 people gathered at Bow Cemetery."

The pub was formally renamed as Charlie Brown's in 1972.

Second Charlie Brown's

On his death, Charlie Brown's daughter Ethel took over the pub.

His son (also Charlie Brown) took over the Blue Posts, directly opposite, but in 1938 moved to South Woodford to a pub which he named Charlie Brown’s.

North Fork, California

North Fork (formerly Brown's and Northfork; Mono wa?ahhpY', "cedar grove") is an unincorporated community in Madera County, California. It is located 22 miles (35 km) east of Raymond,9.89 miles (15.92 km) south east of Bass Lake and 14 miles (23 km) from Oakhurst.

North Fork is also home of the Sierra Mono Museum and the starting point of the Sierra Scenic Byway. The town boasts one grocery store, three restaurants (one of which is part of the town's bar) and two gas stations.

North Fork is the birthplace of Jeff King, four-time champion of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race.

The Northfork Rancheria of Mono Indians of California maintains their tribal headquarters in North Fork. The Sierra Mono Museum is also located here.

North Fork is also the home of the US Forest Service Crane Valley Hotshots, an elite crew of wildland firefighters.

North Fork is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada at an elevation of 2638 feet (804 m). According to the 2000 U.S. Census the population of the 93643 zip code area was 3,360 with a median age of 44.8 years. The community is inside area code 559. It is part of the Madera–Chowchilla Metropolitan Statistical Area.
