The Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat (Hindi: सरदार वल्लभभाई राष्ट्रीय प्रौद्योगिकी संस्थान , सूरत) (Gujarati: સરદાર વલ્લભભાઈ રાષ્ટ્રીય પ્રૌદ્યોગિકી સંસ્થાન) popularly known as National Institute of Technology, Surat, NIT Surat or SVNIT, is an engineering institute of higher education established by the Parliament of India in 1961. It is one of 30 National Institutes of Technology in India recognized by the Government of India as an Institute of National Importance. It is the Anchor Institute for the Auto and Engineering sector and will be training the workforce. The project is also designated as the "Center of Excellence" in water resources and flood management and is supported by the World Bank.
NIT Surat is a premier institute that was established to train scientists and engineers to cater to the country's growing need for R&D and technological manpower. It shares its organizational structure and undergraduate admission process with sister NITs. The students and alumni of NIT Surat are informally referred to as SVNITians. The institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate and Doctoral courses in Engineering and Technology, Science, Humanities and Management.

The older system caused a lot of difficulties to students such as filling multiple applications, travelling long distances to various Institutes across the country and missing some Institutes due to overlapping admission dates. The Centralized counseling has provided a system wherein the students can fill single online application form from their homes and apply to all programmes in all the participating institutions to which they are eligible. The overall convenience of students has been enormously increased due to centralized counseling.
The CCMT was initiated in the year 2012 onwards for centralized admission for PG programmes. The CCMT was successfully organized by NITK Surathkal in the year 2016. This year, CCMT is being organized by Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat.

The Centralized Counseling for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./M.Des. (CCMT) is a convenient platform for the students to apply for M.Tech./ M.Arch./ M.Plan./M.Des. programmes, based on their GATE score of years 2015, 2016 and 2017, in all NITs and reputed Centrally Funded Technical Institutions namely Central University of Rajasthan, ABV-IIITM Gwalior, IIITDM Jabalpur, IIIT Allahabad, Sant Longowal Institute of Engineering and Technology (SLIET) Longowal, Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST) Shibpur, National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology (NIFFT) Ranchi, School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) Vijayawada, PEC University of Technology, Chandigarh and IIITD&M; Kancheepuram. This centralized system has replaced the older system, wherein students had to apply individually to various Institutes and go to every Institute for appearing in interview/counseling.
