A hard disk drive (HDD; also hard drive, hard disk, or disk drive) is a device for storing and retrieving digital information, primarily computer data. It consists of one or more rigid (hence "hard") rapidly rotating discs (platters) coated with magnetic material, and with magnetic heads arranged to write data to the surfaces and read it from them.
Hard drives are classified as non-volatile, random access, digital, magnetic, data storage devices. Introduced by IBM in 1956, hard disk drives have decreased in cost and physical size over the years while dramatically increasing in capacity and speed.
Hard disk drives have been the dominant device for secondary storage of data in general purpose computers since the early 1960s. They have maintained this position because advances in their recording capacity, cost, reliability, and speed have kept pace with the requirements for secondary storage.
Hard disk drives were introduced in 1956 as data storage for an IBM real-time transaction processing computer and were developed for use with general purpose mainframe and mini computers. The first IBM drive, the 350 RAMAC, was approximately the size of two refrigerators and stored 5 million 6-bit characters (the equivalent of 3.75 million 8-bit bytes) on a stack of 50 discs.

INSTRUCTIONS
If you want to do this, get a spare flash drive, plug it in, start up the Minecraft launcher, and create a new profile. Modify the profile so it saves to the flash drive.
After you have quickly made a world then exited it, full up the flash drive with garbage files. I copied a few big YouTube video renders, and a bunch of songs to fill up the space.
Once the drive is as full as you can get it, load up the world again, fly around until the console begins rapidly spitting out errors at you. Exit out of the world and reload it over and over again until the desired effect is reached.

If you want to do this, get a spare flash drive, plug it in, start up the Minecraft launcher, and create a new profile. Modify the profile so it saves to the flash drive.
After you have quickly made a world then exited it, full up the flash drive with garbage files. I copied a few big YouTube video renders, and a bunch of songs to fill up the space.
Once the drive is as full as you can get it, load up the world again, fly around until the console begins rapidly spitting out errors at you. Exit out of the world and reload it over and over again until the desired effect is reached.

The chances of permanent data loss are extremely high. In this video we show you the process for transplanting hard disk platters from a hard drive with a damaged spindle motor. We made an effort to do this using simple tools to show that it could be done. We DO NOT recommend this method at all for those who have important data that needs to be recovered.
Please note, this process only works with 7200.10 model Seagate hard drives. Do not attempt on any other model Seagate drive, or any other brand hard drive...especially Western Digital.
Hard drive data recovery is much more involved than what can be shown in simple videos like this. Professional data recovery requires the ability to not only properly diagnose your failed hard drive, but also having the right equipment.
Clean rooms for data recovery are not as critical as having the proper knowledge and experience. In addition, having proper software for imaging is crucial. After the platter swap in this video, this is absolutely no way this drive would have been accessible on a computer, no matter how it was attached. The drive had many areas where it really struggled to image completely, and our Deepspar Disk Imager is one of the few tools on the market that intuitively knows how to handle unreadable sectors without pushing the hard drive to its limit.

Whether you want to have a second hard drive or just don't want to have to reinstall all of your software if your hard drive goes down, this method is the easiest way I've found. Another reason I did it this way is because I have a 7200rpm hard drive and wanted to replace it with the same speed. 7200rpm hard drives require more power than a USB 2.0 supplies, so I would have had to use USB 3.0, which I don't have on my laptop or a powered eternal case, which most I was able to find didn't have external power. Project 1: Hard drive motors
Hard drives are awesome project kits for people like me who like to tinker with shit. People, myself included, will typically toss old hard drives in the garbage without much thought to the expensive high-precision components that are inside. First there are the neodymium magnets. Every hard drive has two very powerful ones. This alone is reason enough to open your old hard drive before you toss it. Every hard drive also has a DC brushless motor at its core that it uses to spin your disk to very high rpm with almost zero friction. These motors have to be able to spin at high speed continuously for YEARS on end sometimes so they are super high-reliability and also fantastically quiet.
Most importantly though, motors are just plain fun to play with and these motors are some of the nicest to play with if you can get them working. That brings us to this project. When I pulled my old hard drive apart and started applying voltage to the terminals it became clear very quickly that this wasn't your regular DC motor. It was not clear how to get the thing to spin up normally. After doing some research online I found some complicated circuit diagrams for building a controller to drive these motors but somehow that seemed a bit overkill for what I wanted to do.. play with a motor, so I decided to try an idea of my own using a magnetic reed switch and the two neodymium magnets that from inside the hard drive.
So, I hope this helps a few people out there get going on their own projects.

WARNING: If you want to do this procedure be sure you read the documentation on Disk Management for your Windows OS and be very careful. You do not want to delete or format partitions or volumes that contain your OS or data. What I describe is for Windows 7 Pro.
I just replaced the hard drive in my Toshiba Satellite Pro L550 and thought a video describing the process would be helpful. I wanted to be able to copy my existing drive to the new one complete with Operating System (OS), Windows settings, programs and data. I did not want to have to reinstall the OS or the programs.
This process describes how to upgrade from a 250 GB MJA2250BH SATA hard drive to a new Western Digital (WD) 750 GB Model WD7500BPKT Advanced Format SATA hard drive using a BYTECC HDD/SSD Stand Alone Duplicator. As well a description of how to extend the original Primary Partition in the new drive to take advantage of the additional unallocated space in the new drive is provided.
This applies to Windows 7 Professional OS. If you already have a Western Digital hard drive in your laptop or desktop computer the process is supposed to be easy using Acronis True Image Software which can be downloaded from the WD website if you have registered a hard disk with them. In my case I did not have a WD drive in my system so I describe how I managed to clone my existing drive, transfer everything to the new hard drive and then perform disk management tasks to take advantage of all the new space on the upgraded disk.
One thing I did not mention in the video is that I had to rename the new hard disk in My Computer because I made an exact copy and the original name showed instead of the new one. In Device Manager and in the Disk Management screens the new name did of course appear.

Another reason I did it this way is because I have a 7200rpm hard drive and wanted to replace it with the same speed. 7200rpm hard drives require more power than a USB 2.0 supplies, so I would have had to use USB 3.0, which I don't have on my laptop or a powered eternal case, which most I was able to find didn't have external power. Regardless, the caddy option was still the cheapest and easiest way in my opinion :)

All the How-To's on Youtube that I could find only show the other/older models that have the simple hard drive bay doors, the new Inspirons have to be split apart to get to the HD, so here's me doing it after ruining one laptop and scratching up a second. It's not easy, but possible, and TOTALLY WORTH IT to have an SSD. Watch me do it in under 30 minutes, and I'm sure you will be able to do it faster, and avoid the damage and scratches that I made while learning.

I'm not a pro, but since I am doing it for the 3rd time, I set up a camera so that there's something on Youtube for the next person who has the newer style Dell laptop who wants to do a HD swap. All the How-To's on Youtube that I could find only show the other/older models that have the simple hard drive bay doors, the new Inspirons have to be split apart to get to the HD, so here's me doing it after ruining one laptop and scratching up a second. It's not easy, but possible, and TOTALLY WORTH IT to have an SSD. Watch me do it in under 30 minutes, and I'm sure you will be able to do it faster, and avoid the damage and scratches that I made while learning.

A 25-year-old man was hospitalized after the dirt bike he was driving collided with a minivan in Laurel late Saturday, Howard County police said. Nicholas Walker, of Jessup, struck a Honda Odyssey at the intersection of Scaggsville and Harding roads in Laurel around 8.55 p.m. Saturday, police said.... ....
