www.dslrfilmnoob.com Batteries are a very important and over looked part of filming. Not having enough batteries or easy access to them can slow down filming by hours. If you plan to film projects lasting a day or more, it's a good idea to have at least 4 to 6 camera batteries with you. It's also good to have a few extra chargers. Adding a battery grip to your DSLR Rig makes it much easier to replace batteries and allows the camera to run longer between battery change outs. I personally like the Zeikos battery grips they run about $65 new www.amazon.com But if you're looking for something cheaper, then there several models out there for under $40: www.amazon.com Just remember that they aren't made as well as some of the higher priced models. New generic batteries are chipped, which means they will work the way canon brand batteries will in your 7d. I've had good luck with the Opteka LP-E6 2400mAh brand batteries: www.amazon.com At a 3rd the price these batteries do very well. Battery Grip For Canon EOS 350d / 400d Digital Rebel XT / XTI - The Opteka BGRXT

www.robnunnphoto.com Picked up the Opteka BGRXT battery grip for my Canon EOS 350d / DIgital Rebel XT a few days ago. (This grip also fits the 400d / Rebel XTi). The grip takes two of the NB-2L batteries, or 6 AA's, depending on which battery insert you use. It also adds controls for shooting in portrait orientation - a second shutter button, control wheel, exposure compensation button, AF point selector and exposure lock button. The Opteka grip feels sturdy, well made, and it matches my 350d well. If you shoot hand-held a lot, then a grip is a must. It makes the camera feel more substantial, giving you a stable platform from which to shoot. Recommended! Cheers, Rob.

Since the D5100 has no aftermarket battery grips yet I decided to try a D3100 battery grip and with a simple modification it fit like a glove and fully functions. I did see on ebay where someone was selling a D5100 battery grip for 78 dollars or maybe more but I had not heard it had been released even from 3rd party suppliers so I have to think its a d3100 modified. For $35.00 I got this one and about a minute to modify it. I dont much like the cable for the side shutter button but its not real bad. The feel of it is nice and Im very happy with the results. The battery door from the camera wont fit in the cut out for storage so you will have to store the battery door elswhere and still not a biggie. All in all I like it, it fits the D5100 better than the D5000 battery grips I have seen on a D5000 as you can see no light between the D5100 and the batter grip but on the D5000's I have seen gaps and the grips was for the D5000. The D3100 and the D5100 use the same battery but the D5000 and D3000 use a different battery. Hope this helps anyone in need of a battery grip but unsure if it will work or not, and sorry for the camera angle... I thought it was int he shot but kept raising it up out of the shot.
