i/ˌkɑːzəkˈstɑːn/ or /ˌkæzəkˈstæn/) (Kazakh: Қазақстан, Qazaqstan, pronounced [qɑzɑqstɑ́n]; Russian: Казахстан [kəzɐxˈstan]), officially the Republic of Kazakhstan, is a transcontinental country in Central Asia and Europe. The ninth largest country in the world by land area, it is also the world's largest landlocked country; its territory of 2,727,300 square kilometres (1,053,000 sq mi) is larger than Western Europe. It is neighbored clockwise from the north by Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and also borders on a significant part of the Caspian Sea. Although Kazakhstan does not share a border with Mongolia, its most easterly point is only 38 kilometres (24 mi) from Mongolia's western tip. The terrain of Kazakhstan ranges from flatlands, steppes, taigas, rock-canyons, hills, deltas, and snow-capped mountains to deserts. With 16.6 million people (2011 estimate) Kazakhstan has the 62nd largest population in the world, though its population density is less than 6 people per square kilometre (15 per sq. mi.). The capital was moved in 1998 from Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city, to Astana.

In 1832, the settlement was granted a town status and renamed Akmolinsk (Russian: Акмолинск). On 20 March 1961, the city was renamed to Tselinograd (Russian: Целиноград) to mark the city's evolution as a cultural and administrative center of the Virgin Lands Campaign. In 1992, it was renamed Akmola (Kazakh: Ақмола), the modified original name meaning "a white grave". On 10 December 1997, Akmola replaced Almaty to become the capital of Kazakhstan. On 6 May 1998, it was renamed Astana, which means "the capital" in Kazakh.

The mosque was a gift in accordance with the agreement of the Kazakhstan President, Nursultan Nazarbayev and the Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa. It has a capacity of 5,000 worshipers inside the mosque, including 2,000 for worshipers outside the mosque. The structure is made of glass, concrete, granite and alucobond measures.

Experience of travelling by train from Almaty, Kazakhstan, to Tashkent, Uzbekistan (via Shymkent); on the National Railway Company of Kazakhstan (Қазақстан Темiр Жолы / ҚТЖ).
On board the Soviet-style train, it was a close to 13 hour ride from Almaty to Shymkent. On the sleeper cabin (shared by four people), a mattress and pillow (with fresh sheets) were provided. It is advisable to bring adequate food and water on the journey.
This is a cost-effective albeit less comfortable way of getting to Tashkent from Almaty: by taking a domestic train service to Shymkent, then taking taxi to the Kazakh-Uzbek border, crossing the border into Uzbekistan before taking another taxi to the capital, Tashkent. Note: private vehicles can double as a taxi, negotiate first with the driver on the price. A little spoken Russian will go a long way here.

Astana is the capital city of Kazakhstan. It is located on the Ishim River in the north portion of Kazakhstan, within Akmola Province, though administrated separately from the province as a federal city area. It is the second-largest city in Kazakhstan. Founded in 1830 as Akmolinsk and renamed as Tselinograd in 1961, the city has evolved into a cultural and administrative centre of Virgin Lands Campaign. In 1992, it was renamed as Akmola, the original name meaning "white holy place" or "white abundance". On 10 December 1997, Akmola became the capital of Kazakhstan. On 6 May 1998, it received the name of Astana, which means "the capital" in Kazakh. Since becoming the capital, Astana has undergone tremendous growth. It is home to many futuristic buildings, hotels and skyscrapers. In addition to serving as government headquarters, Astana is center for industry, sports, healthcare and education. Astana International Airport was designed by late-Japanese architect, Kisho Kurokawa. The Astana Metro is a planned underground construction in Astana.
Astana Railway Station is an important hub for northern Kazakhstan, served by Qazaqstan Temir Zholy trains to most major cities in Kazakhstan, including Talgo expresses to Almaty. International trains leave for Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. There is also a direct train to Urumqi in China's Xinjiang.
Astana, Kazakhstan is the host venue for EXPO-2017, which will focus on the theme "Future Energy". The theme is aimed to concentrate on both the future of energy, but also on innovative, but practical energy solutions, and their global impact. EXPO-2017 will be the first time that a major international exhibition of this kind is coming to a country from the former Soviet Union. More than 100 countries and 10 international organizations are expected to participate. Around 2-3 million people are expected to visit the international pavilions from June to September 2017. 25 hectares is planned for the pavilions of Expo 2017. The site has a convenient access to Astana’s city center, the international airport and the railway station. The Expo Site is also linked with a network of Kazakhstan’s inter-city roads to ensure a quick access from all the country. Construction of the pavilions will begin April 2014 with 20 companies from Kazakhstan and 49 companies from around the globe. Currently, designs are being considered for the grounds of Expo 2017 from architects in the UK, USA, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and China. On April 24, 2014 the President of Kazakhstan Nurusltan Nazarbayev took part in a capsule-laying ceremony of the Astana EXPO-2017 Exhibition center construction in Astana, which will be located near the Nazarbayev University.

On this mountain bike tour in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan we take you off the grid and into the heart of the Tien Shan mountains that include the marble pyramid of Khan Tengri (6995 m) and Pobedy Peak (7439 m). Snow-capped mountains provide a stunning backdrop for our mountain biking trip through Kazakhstan's valleys with lush pastures and up to passes and plateaus that are teeming with grasslands and wildflowers. The only traffic will be the occasional horseman and we'll meet nomadic Kazakhs that have moved their flocks of sheep to high pastures.
We meet in the cosmopolitan city of Almaty that still has remnants of the Soviet era while evolving into a city with a distinctive European feel. We have walk around this leafy city before heading to the mountains and rivers. We start biking from the Turgen River Gorge and the landscape quickly changes from pine trees to open rolling grasslands. Everyday we'll bike up dirt roads to the top of passes, have adrenalin-inducing downhills and then camp next to rushing rivers as we weave our way to Karkara Valley. The highlight of our tour is two days heli-biking. We are flown to the lofty height of 3500 m and then have a daunting descent on single track and jeep dirt roads back to our camp. The adventure continues as we climb to the top of Mingtur Pass (3900m) and the Chon Ashy Pass (3820m) and descend into Kyrgyzstan.
This is a tough off road mountain biking tour as not only is the cycling challenging, we are riding at high altitudes and in extreme weather conditions. This all makes for a true adventure for those that want a unique biking experience with spectacular high mountain scenery.

On this mountain bike tour in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan we take you off the grid and into the heart of the Tien Shan mountains that include the marble pyramid of Khan Tengri (6995 m) and Pobedy Peak (7439 m). Snow-capped mountains provide a stunning backdrop for our mountain biking trip through Kazakhstan's valleys with lush pastures and up to passes and plateaus that are teeming with grasslands and wildflowers. The only traffic will be the occasional horseman and we'll meet nomadic Kazakhs that have moved their flocks of sheep to high pastures.
We meet in the cosmopolitan city of Almaty that still has remnants of the Soviet era while evolving into a city with a distinctive European feel. We have walk around this leafy city before heading to the mountains and rivers. We start biking from the Turgen River Gorge and the landscape quickly changes from pine trees to open rolling grasslands. Astana, Kazakhstan is the host venue for EXPO-2017, which will focus on the theme "Future Energy". The theme is aimed to concentrate on both the future of energy, but also on innovative, but practical energy solutions, and their global impact. EXPO-2017 will be the first time that a major international exhibition of this kind is coming to a country from the former Soviet Union. More than 100 countries and 10 international organizations are expected to participate. Around 2-3 million people are expected to visit the international pavilions from June to September 2017. 25 hectares is planned for the pavilions of Expo 2017. The site has a convenient access to Astana’s city center, the international airport and the railway station. The Expo Site is also linked with a network of Kazakhstan’s inter-city roads to ensure a quick access from all the country. Construction of the pavilions will begin April 2014 with 20 companies from Kazakhstan and 49 companies from around the globe. Currently, designs are being considered for the grounds of Expo 2017 from architects in the UK, USA, Germany, Austria, Netherlands and China. On April 24, 2014 the President of Kazakhstan Nurusltan Nazarbayev took part in a capsule-laying ceremony of the Astana EXPO-2017 Exhibition center construction in Astana, which will be located near the Nazarbayev University.

Drawn from the university's associated school, these artists of the future form symphony and folk orchestras, a ballet company, a choir and a violinists' ensemble.
They both demonstrate their talent and promote music and dance to children of other nations.
The London appearance is a conclusion of a series of concerts which started at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris.
The Kazakh Eli Classic is a newly launched branch of the National University of Arts that brings together the best of folk and national arts and Kazakh's school of classic and contemporary arts.
These are performed by the artistic young people of Kazakh Eli, Kazakhstan.

A recital held on March 6th 2013 at the Kazakh National University of Arts for its 15th anniversary.
About 500 students of the university will take part in the concert.
The dean of the university, internationally acclaimed violinist Aiman Mussakhodjayeva and the Aigolek Children's Ensemble opened the programme playing the Praeludium and Allegro in the style of Pugnani by Fritz Kreisler.
The concert also included contemporary works and those attributed to the beloved, legendary composer and musician Korkyt-Ata who lived 1,200 years ago and who created the kyl-kobuz stringed instrument.
The Samghau (Floating) and Eligay (Fawn) children's choirs that have won international competitions, sang in a cappella President Nursultan Nazarbayev's song "Ushkonyr" accompanied by stills from the film "The Sky of My Childhood." Young musicians performed pieces from around the world on dombras and the Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's "Prince Igor."
The children's choirs and ensembles are set to perform the same concert in major concert halls in Milan, Turin, Florence, Rome, the Vatican, Paris, Tokyo, Washington, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The Kazakh National Academy of Music (KazNAM) was created on March 31, 1998 with the support of President Nazarbayev. On Oct. 12, 2009, the government upgraded its status and renamed it the Kazakh National University of Arts (KazNUA). In 2010, the university moved into the Shabyt Palace of the Arts.
The KazNUA teaches primary (grades 1-8), secondary (grades 9-12), higher (1-4 courses) and postgraduate programmes in 21 specialties. A recital held on March 6th 2013 at the Kazakh National University of Arts for its 15th anniversary.
About 500 students of the university will take part in the concert.
The dean of the university, internationally acclaimed violinist Aiman Mussakhodjayeva and the Aigolek Children's Ensemble opened the programme playing the Praeludium and Allegro in the style of Pugnani by Fritz Kreisler.
The concert also included contemporary works and those attributed to the beloved, legendary composer and musician Korkyt-Ata who lived 1,200 years ago and who created the kyl-kobuz stringed instrument.
The Samghau (Floating) and Eligay (Fawn) children's choirs that have won international competitions, sang in a cappella President Nursultan Nazarbayev's song "Ushkonyr" accompanied by stills from the film "The Sky of My Childhood." Young musicians performed pieces from around the world on dombras and the Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's "Prince Igor."
The children's choirs and ensembles are set to perform the same concert in major concert halls in Milan, Turin, Florence, Rome, the Vatican, Paris, Tokyo, Washington, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
The Kazakh National Academy of Music (KazNAM) was created on March 31, 1998 with the support of President Nazarbayev. On Oct. 12, 2009, the government upgraded its status and renamed it the Kazakh National University of Arts (KazNUA). In 2010, the university moved into the Shabyt Palace of the Arts.
The KazNUA teaches primary (grades 1-8), secondary (grades 9-12), higher (1-4 courses) and postgraduate programmes in 21 specialties. They covers all areas of art, acting, directing, painting and sculpture, movie camera work, photography, choreography, ballet, folk dances, design, set design, popular entertainment and artistic management.
