Kim Wilson 2003 Lookin' For Trouble!

Genre: Blues
Rate: 256 kbps CBR / 44100
Time: 00:58:39
Size: 107,55 MB

Review by Scott Yanow

Singer and harmonica player Kim Wilson's blues set is a throwback style-wise to the 1950s. The jump blues really romp, whether they be instrumentals, novelties, or low-down blues, Wilson's harmonica solos are excellent, and his singing is quite expressive. He has a crack backup band, guitarist Troy Gonyea is a major asset, and there are occasional contributions from the horn section, but Wilson is the main star throughout, creating a great deal of musical fire. This infectious and driving set is highly recommended to fans of Chicago and swinging blues.

Ben Harper & Tom Freund 1992 Pleasure And Pain

Genre: Blues
Rate: 240 kbps VBR / 44100
Time: 00:47:36
Size: 84,23 MB

United States

This acoustic album is impregnated with the Blues. A Blues transported from the Mississippi Delta to the Inland Empire. A Blues re-rendered through the sound of a lap steel guitar influenced by Chris Darrow and David Lindley - both slide guitarists and natives of Claremont.

Influence of Chris Darrow appears in the very first song: Whipping Boy, a song he wrote in 1972. Second song is a traditional Blues entitled Jesus on The Main line. Then, Ben Harper and Tom Freund play covers of Pay The Man (co-written by David Lindley and George 'Baboo' Pierre) and Quarter Of A Man (a sublime song written by Robert 'Frizz' Fuller - note). These two songs were already gathered in David Lindley's album called El Rayo-X (released 1980). Mama's Got A Girlfriend Now (written by Ben Harper), and Angel From Montgomery (written by John Prine) bring a country music touch to the album. Then album turns into Rock 'n' Roll sound with two songs by Tom Freund: Click Yo' Heels and an incredible You Should Have Come To Me. King of the Delta Blues, Robert Johnson, couldn't be left out: ardent covers of Dust My Broom and Sweet Home Chicago precede an already very accomplished version of Pleasure And Pain (a Ben Harper's original).

Tracklist:

01 - Whipping Boy 02:48

Pete Cornelius & The Devilles 1999 Live At Narooma

Genre: Blues-Rock

Time: 01:09:58
Size: 160,06 MB

Australia

Recorded in 1999, this CD shows why 15 year old (at the time) Pete Cornelius was considered by many to be one of the best blues guitarists to emerge in recent times. Handling all guitar work and vocals, it is easy to understand why Pete had such praise heaped upon him, at such a young age. The DeVilles also include Phil Wilson on bass and Bruce Cornelius playing the drums (and adding some vocals). Pete Cornelius and The DeVilles have since become one of the hardest working blues bands in the area. Their shows are charged with energy that saturates the crowd and pulls them into the DeVille experience. Definitely, one of the stronger live discs. (http://www.dwmmusic.com/)

If you hear these songs on the radio for the first time, you’ll presume you’re listening to one of the ’50s Rhythm and Blues legends. You’ll hear vocalisms that remind you of Ray Charles or Junior Parker or Fats Domino.

John Németh is a natural-born Bluesman, and he proves it with every note he sings, shaping each one with emotion, taste and inspiration. As with the best singers, every phrase delivered is just right, neither over-sung nor under-powered. The subtle inflections and references to masterful singers bring fresh surprises with repeated listening. John Németh makes it sound easy. (Bob Margolin)
