Battle of Allia and Sack of Rome – Rise of the Republic DOCUMENTARY
If you want to watch the campaign gameplay for the Rise of the Republic, check out the video from our friend Lionheart, he is one of the best in the let's play business: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wiMgQAe4Sp8
Most of the documentaries on the Roman history depict Rome at the peak of its glory, during the Late Republic and Early Empire. Yet, Rome started from the humble beginnings, as a singular city-state that struggled for its survival, and was on the brink of annihilation on many occasions. During one of them, the Gallic Senones led by their king Brennus defeated the Romans at Allia and then sacked the city. After a 7 months long siege, the city and the Republic were saved by Marcus Furius Camillus, who would enter history as the second founder of Rome.

History
Origins
The Roman Crisis of the Third Century continued as the Emperor Valerian was defeated and captured by the Sasanian Empire of Persia in the Battle of Edessa, together with a large part of the Roman field army in the east. This left his son Gallienus in very shaky control. Shortly thereafter, the Palmyrene leader Odaenathus gained control of a wide swath of the east, including Egypt, Syria, Judea, and Arabia Petraea; while he was nominally loyal to the Roman government, his domain was de facto independent and has come to be referred to as the Palmyrene Empire.

Previously in our historical animated documentary series on the Gallic Wars of Gaius Julius Caesar, we have covered the battle of Gergovia http://bit.ly/2Sklcle between Vercingetorix and his Gallic alliance, and the legions of Caesar. Although the Romans were defeated in this battle and more Gauls joined the rebellion, Caesar didn't relent. The crucial battle of the rebellion took place at Alesia in 52 BC and that battle changed the course of history.

For instance, defying any prudish stereotypes about royals, Queen Victoria actually had a very passionate love life, and she also enjoyed getting high. Oh, and her grandson just might have been Jack the Ripper. Let’s take a look at the messed-up truth about Queen Victoria.
