How to reset the display setting on a Microsoft Xbox 360 system when booting the console

Any information you choose to put into use from this video is done AT YOUR OWN RISK. This video will show you how to reset the display settings of your Microsoft Xbox 360 console system to a standard base resolution that can be viewed by your display (whether it be a high definition HDTV television connected via HDMI cable or component cable, standard definition television, computer monitor with VGA output cable, etc.) This is especially useful for those who have selected a video output mode that is not supported by their display (such as 1080p) and are now seemingly stuck on a black screen with no way to see what they are doing and therefore cannot escape to a supported resolution (such as 480i or 576i, 4:3). This method is done on the starting up (or booting) of the console and therefore does not require that you navigate system settings, console settings, display settings, etc. --- If the method shown in the video did not work for you, then make sure that no disc is in the 360, power off the 360, then boot the 360 using the Xbox Guide button on the controller, then hold the button combination shown in the video for OVER 3 minutes (continuing to hold this button combination even if your 360 turns off and turns back on). Let me know how it turns out. --- If the aforementioned method does not work for you, you can always try to blindly reset the display settings manually, as so: 1) Ensure that the Xbox 360 is booted without a disc in the drive 2) Wait 20 seconds after bootup; do not do anything on the 360 during this time 3) If you normally select a profile each time you boot your 360, press A to select a profile and then wait 20 additional seconds, however, if this is not what you normally encounter (you normally automatically login to a default profile) then skip to the next step. 4) Hold RIGHT on the D-Pad for 10 seconds 5) Press LEFT on the D-Pad THREE (3) times 6) Press the A button and wait one second 7) For the second time, press the A button and wait one second 8) For the third time, press the A button and wait one second 9) For the fourth time, press the A button and wait one second 10) Hold UP on the D-Pad for 10 seconds 11) Press the A button Your display setting should now be at its lowest possible setting --- Viewer Warren .Finn mentions that: Your display settings are saved to either your hard drive or memory card so simply remove them from your console and turn it on, It should automatically connect to the tv and ask you to update the console, Simply hit no and plug back in your hard drive, The console should reset and problem should be solved. If it happens again next time you turn on the console do this again but when the console starts up, go to system settings - Storage, then press Y on your Harddrive/Memory card and clear the system cache. --- Try holding the power button on your 360 console for over a minute from an off-state (even through automatic system restarts) and if no luck, try holding the power button on your 360 console for over a minute from an on-state (even through automatic system restarts). --- If still no luck, then I'm afraid that I have but two remaining suggestions, with none of them being easy: 1) you can completely factory reset your Xbox 360 through navigating to the system's settings via outputting a video signal using the composite yellow white and red cable that came with your 360, and upon reboot, ensure that your HDMI cable is connected in the hopes that the 360 will properly auto-detect the HDMI cable as your intended display output (note that this method completely wipes clean ANY data you have saved to your Xbox 360, including profiles, Xbox LIVE accounts, saved games, downloaded content, etc., so perhaps you should back up this data and content using a USB mass storage device before attempting this method). Alternatively, (note that this remaining suggestion ONLY applies to Xbox 360 consoles that are OLDER than the new Xbox 360 E console {look at the label on the back of your console to ensure your console is not the new Xbox 360 E before trying this}) you can maintain all of the existing user data on your Xbox 360 and still obtain a high definition image through forgetting the use of HDMI completely and instead purchase a '360 VGA cable' (they cost around $6 off of eBay). Not only will you still get clear HD resolutions (much clearer than that which can be obtained through component cables, which is yet another option for HD video), but you'll also be able to connect your 360 to PC monitors instead of just HDMI displays (beforehand, ensure that your intended display has a VGA input before considering this option.)
