A lot of people aren't very familiar with the beliefs of Seventh Day Adventists. It's a sect that's pretty similar to what you'd find in conservative Christianity -- They believe in Creationism, oppose gay rights, etc.
But what makes them unique?
-- Jesus is coming back very soon. Like not in our lifetime soon... but like now soon. The word they use is "imminent." And only people who rest on Saturday will be saved.
-- Saturday is their holy day. Most Christians reserve Sunday as their holy day. But SDA's are insistent that it's Saturday. Screw those heretics who disagree!
Remember how God created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh? Obviously that was on Saturday.
-- They don't believe that you're going to Heaven when you die. The only way anyone's going to Heaven is when Jesus returns for the Second Coming.
What if you die before that happens? Then you just have to sit there unconscious in your grave until the day comes. Which I hear will be very soon.
-- Bad people don't go to Hell. No, it's much worse.
They're just going to be permanently destroyed. Because God grants us eternal life... so if you don't accept God, you don't get the joy of burning in Hell forever.
When Jesus comes back -- which is soon -- God's gonna commit the biggest act of genocide you've ever seen.
Which also means they don't believe in Hell. Because no one could end up there.
-- God's going to determine your faith through a process called Investigative Judgment. Basically, until the time when Jesus comes back -- which is happening any moment now -- God's investigating your life to figure out your fate.
It's not enough that you believe in him. You also have to live a life in accordance with his rules. He's always judging you...
-- They're health nuts. Which isn't exactly a bad thing.
They abstain from alcohol and tobacco... and coffee and soda... and unclean meat like pork.
Because those things defile your soul. Not bad ideas... but the reasoning is horrible.
-- Their prophet was a woman. Ellen G. White. So that's different. And kind of cool in a way.
But that's the only way she's different. She saw visions in 1844 and the religion sprang from there. Those visions came after she suffered a traumatic brain injury as a child and was in a long coma which many people believe led to epileptic seizures.
But I'm sure that had nothing to do with it.
-- They think the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon and the Pope is the Anti-Christ.
They think less of the Catholic Church than most atheists do!
-- They think masturbation is really horrible. Like, really horrible. Like John Harvey Kellogg was an Adventist who created Corn Flakes because he hoped eating them would prevent kids from touching themselves.
-- Dr. Ben Carson, one of the Republicans running for President, is a Seventh Day Adventist.
So he believes all this stuff.
I have to say, though, given the other things I've heard him say so far, these are probably some of the more sensible beliefs he has.

tempts people to be insensitive to the needs of others. Not enough of it, can result in hunger, sickness, and death. The management of
money is a major concern today. Its mismanagement is a leading
cause of family conflicts.
Today Christians are bombarded with unbiblical views of wealth.
Television programs focusing on the lifestyle of the rich and famous,
the idolizing of stars at movie premeirs, and reality shows where you
can follow the day to day lives of wealthy celebrities, all testify to
society’s materialistic values; values that many Christians have adopted.
The Bible condemns the love of wealth, not the possession of wealth. Money is not good or evil, but neutral. It is a tool in our hands which can be used for good or evil, depending upon the intention of the person possessing it.
The problem with having wealth is that those who are not used to it
often misuses it. I`m sure you`ve heard of stories of individuals who
have won millions playing the lottery, but were then broke after only a few years.
Money is a two edged sword that can cut deep for good or evil:
depending on who is wielding the sword.
Money is not the standard of faith or godliness. We do not measure
the spiritual worth of church members by their net financial worth.
But what we do with our money tells a lot about our priorities.
The Bible condemns the love of wealth, not the possession of wealth. The problem is, people become possessed by their possessions.
Money is not good or evil, but neutral. It is a tool in our hands which
can be used for good or evil, depending upon the intention of the
person possessing it.
The Bible teaches that wealth should be built up slowly through
diligent work, not through gambling and lotteries without hard work.
The get-rich-quick philosophy, mocks the core values of disciplined
work habits, thrift, adherence to routine, and appreciation for the reward of diligent labor.

Dale and Carolyn Ratzlaff founded Life Assurance Ministries in 1999. Dale is author of Sabbath in Christ, The Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventists, The Truth About the Seventh-day Adventist Truth, and Adventist to Christian. Dale was an Adventist pastor for 13 years, seven of which he spent teaching Bible at Monterey Bay Academy , La Selva Beach, California. During his doctoral studies at Andrews University in the 1980’s, Dale became convinced that the 1844 investigative judgment could not be supported by Scripture. Since he could no longer teach this doctrine, he and his wife Carolyn left the Adventist denomination. Dale and Carolyn host a Former Adventist Fellowship Bible study near Phoenix, Arizona.
The Seventh-day Adventist doctrine of the investigative judgment and cleansing of the heavenly Sanctuary based upon Daniel 8:14 is indeed the central pillar of the Adventist faith. Some Adventists may disagree; however, it is. Ellen White said, “The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith was the declaration, ‘Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed’.
A recent book by Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, Understanding the Heart of Adventist Theology, and it confirms this.The Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, 2001, is entitled, Pillars of Our Faith. It includes chapters on “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, “The Remnant”, etc. The last two presidents of the General Conference have both expressed publicly that the Adventist church will not change.
•Ellen G. White said that Daniel 8:14 is the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith.
•A recent book on the sanctuary by Adventist leader Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, The heart of Adventist theology.
•A recent Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, entitled, The pillars of our faith includes chapters on the “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, and “The Remnant”. It includes this quotation from Early Writings, p. 263, “Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make final atonement for all who could be benefitted by His mediation, and thus to cleanse the sanctuary.”
•Dr. Roy Gane stated that he was excited to know that Ratzlaff understood that the sanctuary was central to Adventists.
•Dr. Richard Davidson referred to the sanctuary as the heart of doctrine.
•Dr. Angel Rodriguez, professor of theology at the Adventist seminary and associate director of the Adventist Biblical Research Institute, stated forthrightly, “Without 1844 and the doctrine of the Sanctuary ... there is no reason for us to exist. 1844 provided for us our identity and our mission. And if we are wrong, then we are simply wrong.”
We can see that the stakes are high.
There are many, perhaps the majority, of Adventist pastors and Bible teachers who want to run as far away from Daniel 8:14, 1844 and the investigative judgment, and the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as possible. Yet the church cannot dismiss this doctrine. This doctrine is not only the central pillar in name, it is the central pillar holding up the whole Adventist identity. I agree 100% with Dr. Rodriguez on this point. If the Adventist church were to jettison this teaching, the organization would be morphed into something it is not. That is why the last two General Conference presidents have openly endorsed Ellen White and the sanctuary doctrine. If they were to admit the errors of October 22, 1844, and the investigative judgment as the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as taught by Ellen White, then Ellen White would fall as “a continuing and authoritative source of truth”. If Ellen White is rejected, the doctrine of the remnant church would fall on the heap. If the remnant church doctrine goes, then the Sabbath as the seal of God for end time believers and Sunday as the mark of the beast crumbles into the dust.

Facts and False Doctrines of the Seventh Day Adventist Church
Ellen G. White, who claimed to have “the spirit of prophecy,” was an important early leader of the movement and taught a number of distinctive Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) doctrines, including the Investigative Judgment and Sabbatarianism. While the churchs official theology now appears to be generally in the tradition of evangelical Christianity, certain SDA claims and unique doctrines continue to raise questions. These doctrines include the SDA belief that Sunday worship will result in the “Mark of the Beast,” imbalanced teachings on keeping the commandments (baptism, Sabbath observance) that often implies a kind of salvation by works, the “Remnant Church” doctrine that implies that the SDA is or will be Gods only true church, and the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment. Adventism: Widespread trans-denominational movement inspired by William Miller’s prediction that Jesus’ “advent” (return) would take place in 1844. Even after the Great Disappointment (the date’s failure), many people in the movement continued to believe. Some suggested revised chronologies and new dates, eventually forming groups such as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Others, notably Hiram Edson and Ellen G. White, suggested that the 1844 date was accurate but that a heavenly (thus invisible) event had taken place. Their teachings became the basis of Seventh-day Adventism, which eventually spawned its own offshoots, including Armstrongism and the Branch Davidians.
Sabbatarianism:
Generally the view that the Old Testament Sabbath commandment is to be observed unchanged by the church. As used in this index, Sabbatarianism refers to an extreme form of the belief in which membership in the true church, or even salvation, is conditional upon keeping the Sabbath law. As such, Sabbatarianism is at the least a form of legalism and at most a denial of salvation by grace. In most cases, the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday) must be observed by refraining from work, sports, and travel from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday evening. The belief is often accompanied by the observance of Jewish dietary laws and/or other Old Testament feasts.

Salvation by Works:
Any doctrine that denies salvation by grace alone by teaching that eternal life is merited, earned, conditioned, or maintained through human effort, religious ritual, financial donations, obedience to laws/commandments, church membership, and/or moral behavior.
Salvation by Grace:
The doctrine and message of the gospel that eternal life is not gained by or conditioned on works but is an undeserved and free gift from God received through faith in Jesus Christ as the Lord and Savior who died for our sins and rose from the dead. Contrasted with salvation by works.
Investigative Judgment:
One of the unique doctrines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that make the place of that church within evangelical Christianity questionable. First taught in Adventism by Hiram Edson, F.B. Hahn, and O.R.L. Crosier, it was accepted as “present truth” by those who would later become known as Seventh-day Adventists (SDAs) after it was confirmed and taught in visions received by Ellen G. White. The doctrine teaches that in the Holy of Holies in the Heavenly Sanctuary Christ is now conducting an investigation into the lives of all who have ever professed belief in Christ. He is judging all their works, by the standard of Gods Law. All those whose lives fail to measure up to the standard of the Law are rejected and condemned as not having true faith. Those whose lives meet that standard and thus manifest the perfect character and righteousness of Christ are recognized as having true faith, and so their sins are “blotted out.” SDAs say, “This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom.” Evangelicals believe, and the Bible teaches (Rom. 3:2126), that Gods justice in saving sinners who trust Jesus to save them is vindicated by the blood of JesusHis death in their place, in their behalf. Adventism is a Christian movement which began in the 19th century, in the context of the Second Great Awakening revival in the United States. The name refers to belief in the imminent Second Coming (or "Second Advent") of Jesus Christ. It was started by William Miller, whose followers became known as Millerites. Today, the largest church within the movement is the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The Adventist family of churches is regarded today as conservative Protestants. Although these churches hold much in common, their theology differs on whether the intermediate state is unconscious sleep or consciousness, whether the ultimate punishment of the wicked is annihilation or eternal torment, the nature of immortality, whether or not the wicked are resurrected after the millennium, and whether the sanctuary of Daniel 8 refers to the one in heaven or one on earth. The movement has encouraged the examination of the New Testament, leading them to observe the Sabbath.
Adventism began as an inter-denominational movement. Its most vocal leader was William Miller. Between 50,000 and 100,000 people in the United States supported Miller's predictions of Christ's return. After the "Great Disappointment" of October 22, 1844 many people in the movement gave up on Adventism. Of those remaining Adventist, the majority gave up believing in any prophetic (biblical) significance for the October 22 date, yet they remained expectant of the near Advent (second coming of Jesus). Of those who retained the October 22 date, many maintained that Jesus had come not literally but "spiritually", and consequently were known as "spiritualizers". A small minority held that something concrete had indeed happened on October 22, but this event had been misinterpreted. This viewpoint later emerged and crystallized with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, the largest remaining body today.

White is a false prophet. Dale and Carolyn Ratzlaff founded Life Assurance Ministries in 1999. Dale is author of Sabbath in Christ, The Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventists, The Truth About the Seventh-day Adventist Truth, and Adventist to Christian. Dale was an Adventist pastor for 13 years, seven of which he spent teaching Bible at Monterey Bay Academy , La Selva Beach, California. During his doctoral studies at Andrews University in the 1980’s, Dale became convinced that the 1844 investigative judgment could not be supported by Scripture. Since he could no longer teach this doctrine, he and his wife Carolyn left the Adventist denomination. Dale and Carolyn host a Former Adventist Fellowship Bible study near Phoenix, Arizona. The Seventh-day Adventist doctrine of the investigative judgment and cleansing of the heavenly Sanctuary based upon Daniel 8:14 is indeed the central pillar of the Adventist faith. Some Adventists may disagree; however, it is. Ellen White said, “The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith was the declaration, ‘Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed’. A recent book by Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, Understanding the Heart of Adventist Theology, and it confirms this.The Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, 2001, is entitled, Pillars of Our Faith. It includes chapters on “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, “The Remnant”, etc. The last two presidents of the General Conference have both expressed publicly that the Adventist church will not change. •Ellen G. White said that Daniel 8:14 is the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith. •A recent book on the sanctuary by Adventist leader Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, The heart of Adventist theology. •A recent Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, entitled, The pillars of our faith includes chapters on the “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, and “The Remnant”. It includes this quotation from Early Writings, p. 263, “Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make final atonement for all who could be benefitted by His mediation, and thus to cleanse the sanctuary.” •Dr. Roy Gane stated that he was excited to know that Ratzlaff understood that the sanctuary was central to Adventists. •Dr. Richard Davidson referred to the sanctuary as the heart of doctrine. •Dr. Angel Rodriguez, professor of theology at the Adventist seminary and associate director of the Adventist Biblical Research Institute, stated forthrightly, “Without 1844 and the doctrine of the Sanctuary ... there is no reason for us to exist. 1844 provided for us our identity and our mission. And if we are wrong, then we are simply wrong.” We can see that the stakes are high. There are many, perhaps the majority, of Adventist pastors and Bible teachers who want to run as far away from Daniel 8:14, 1844 and the investigative judgment, and the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as possible. Yet the church cannot dismiss this doctrine. This doctrine is not only the central pillar in name, it is the central pillar holding up the whole Adventist identity. I agree 100% with Dr. Rodriguez on this point. If the Adventist church were to jettison this teaching, the organization would be morphed into something it is not. That is why the last two General Conference presidents have openly endorsed Ellen White and the sanctuary doctrine. If they were to admit the errors of October 22, 1844, and the investigative judgment as the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as taught by Ellen White, then Ellen White would fall as “a continuing and authoritative source of truth”. If Ellen White is rejected, the doctrine of the remnant church would fall on the heap. If the remnant church doctrine goes, then the Sabbath as the seal of God for end time believers and Sunday as the mark of the beast crumbles into the dust. 2 Timothy 2:15 -

Facts and False Doctrines of the Seventh Day Adventist Church Ellen G. White, who claimed to have “the spirit of prophecy,” was an important early leader of the movement and taught a number of distinctive Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) doctrines, including the Investigative Judgment and Sabbatarianism. While the churchs official theology now appears to be generally in the tradition of evangelical Christianity, certain SDA claims and unique doctrines continue to raise questions. These doctrines include the SDA belief that Sunday worship will result in the “Mark of the Beast,” imbalanced teachings on keeping the commandments (baptism, Sabbath observance) that often implies a kind of salvation by works, the “Remnant Church” doctrine that implies that the SDA is or will be Gods only true church, and the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment. Profile available. Adventism: Widespread trans-denominational movement inspired by William Miller’s prediction that Jesus’ “advent” (return) would take place in 1844. Even after the Great Disappointment (the date’s failure), many people in the movement continued to believe. Some suggested revised chronologies and new dates, eventually forming groups such as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Others, notably Hiram Edson and Ellen G. White, suggested that the 1844 date was accurate but that a heavenly (thus invisible) event had taken place. Their teachings became the basis of Seventh-day Adventism, which eventually spawned its own offshoots, including Armstrongism and the Branch Davidians. Sabbatarianism: Generally the view that the Old Testament Sabbath commandment is to be observed unchanged by the church. As used in this index, Sabbatarianism refers to an extreme form of the belief in which membership in the true church, or even salvation, is conditional upon keeping the Sabbath law. As such, Sabbatarianism is at the least a form of legalism and at most a denial of salvation by grace. In most cases, the Jewish Sabbath (Saturday) must be observed by refraining from work, sports, and travel from sundown Friday evening to sundown Saturday evening. The belief is often accompanied by the observance of Jewish dietary laws and/or other Old Testament feasts. Investigative Judgment: One of the unique doctrines of the Seventh-day Adventist Church that make the place of that church within evangelical Christianity questionable. First taught in Adventism by Hiram Edson, F.B. Hahn, and O.R.L. Crosier, it was accepted as “present truth” by those who would later become known as Seventh-day Adventists (SDAs) after it was confirmed and taught in visions received by Ellen G. White. The doctrine teaches that in the Holy of Holies in the Heavenly Sanctuary Christ is now conducting an investigation into the lives of all who have ever professed belief in Christ. He is judging all their works, by the standard of Gods Law. All those whose lives fail to measure up to the standard of the Law are rejected and condemned as not having true faith. Those whose lives meet that standard and thus manifest the perfect character and righteousness of Christ are recognized as having true faith, and so their sins are “blotted out.” SDAs say, “This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom.” Evangelicals believe, and the Bible teaches (Rom. 3:2126), that Gods justice in saving sinners who trust Jesus to save them is vindicated by the blood of JesusHis death in their place, in their behalf. -- Jesus is coming back very soon. Like not in our lifetime soon... but like now soon. The word they use is "imminent." And only people who rest on Saturday will be saved.
-- Saturday is their holy day. Most Christians reserve Sunday as their holy day. But SDA's are insistent that it's Saturday. Screw those heretics who disagree!
Remember how God created the universe in six days and rested on the seventh? Obviously that was on Saturday.
-- They don't believe that you're going to Heaven when you die. The only way anyone's going to Heaven is when Jesus returns for the Second Coming.
What if you die before that happens? Then you just have to sit there unconscious in your grave until the day comes. Which I hear will be very soon.
-- Bad people don't go to Hell. No, it's much worse.
They're just going to be permanently destroyed. Because God grants us eternal life... so if you don't accept God, you don't get the joy of burning in Hell forever.
When Jesus comes back -- which is soon -- God's gonna commit the biggest act of genocide you've ever seen.
Which also means they don't believe in Hell. Because no one could end up there.
-- God's going to determine your faith through a process called Investigative Judgment. Basically, until the time when Jesus comes back -- which is happening any moment now -- God's investigating your life to figure out your fate.
It's not enough that you believe in him. You also have to live a life in accordance with his rules. He's always judging you...
-- They're health nuts. Which isn't exactly a bad thing.
They abstain from alcohol and tobacco... and coffee and soda... and unclean meat like pork.
Because those things defile your soul. Not bad ideas... but the reasoning is horrible.
-- Their prophet was a woman. Ellen G. White. So that's different. And kind of cool in a way.
But that's the only way she's different. She saw visions in 1844 and the religion sprang from there. Those visions came after she suffered a traumatic brain injury as a child and was in a long coma which many people believe led to epileptic seizures.
But I'm sure that had nothing to do with it.
-- They think the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon and the Pope is the Anti-Christ.
They think less of the Catholic Church than most atheists do!
-- They think masturbation is really horrible. Like, really horrible. Like John Harvey Kellogg was an Adventist who created Corn Flakes because he hoped eating them would prevent kids from touching themselves.
-- Dr. Ben Carson, one of the Republicans running for President, is a Seventh Day Adventist.
So he believes all this stuff.
I have to say, though, given the other things I've heard him say so far, these are probably some of the more sensible beliefs he has.

Few things trouble people today more than money. Too much of it
tempts people to be insensitive to the needs of others. Not enough of it, can result in hunger, sickness, and death. The management of
money is a major concern today. Its mismanagement is a leading
cause of family conflicts.
Today Christians are bombarded with unbiblical views of wealth.
Television programs focusing on the lifestyle of the rich and famous,
the idolizing of stars at movie premeirs, and reality shows where you
can follow the day to day lives of wealthy celebrities, all testify to
society’s materialistic values; values that many Christians have adopted.
The Bible condemns the love of wealth, not the possession of wealth. Money is not good or evil, but neutral. It is a tool in our hands which can be used for good or evil, depending upon the intention of the person possessing it.
The problem with having wealth is that those who are not used to it
often misuses it. I`m sure you`ve heard of stories of individuals who
have won millions playing the lottery, but were then broke after only a few years.
Money is a two edged sword that can cut deep for good or evil:
depending on who is wielding the sword.
Money is not the standard of faith or godliness. We do not measure
the spiritual worth of church members by their net financial worth.
But what we do with our money tells a lot about our priorities.
The Bible condemns the love of wealth, not the possession of wealth. The problem is, people become possessed by their possessions.

Dale and Carolyn Ratzlaff founded Life Assurance Ministries in 1999. Dale is author of Sabbath in Christ, The Cultic Doctrine of Seventh-day Adventists, The Truth About the Seventh-day Adventist Truth, and Adventist to Christian. Dale was an Adventist pastor for 13 years, seven of which he spent teaching Bible at Monterey Bay Academy , La Selva Beach, California. During his doctoral studies at Andrews University in the 1980’s, Dale became convinced that the 1844 investigative judgment could not be supported by Scripture. Since he could no longer teach this doctrine, he and his wife Carolyn left the Adventist denomination. Dale and Carolyn host a Former Adventist Fellowship Bible study near Phoenix, Arizona.
The Seventh-day Adventist doctrine of the investigative judgment and cleansing of the heavenly Sanctuary based upon Daniel 8:14 is indeed the central pillar of the Adventist faith. Some Adventists may disagree; however, it is. Ellen White said, “The scripture which above all others had been both the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith was the declaration, ‘Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed’.
A recent book by Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, Understanding the Heart of Adventist Theology, and it confirms this.The Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, 2001, is entitled, Pillars of Our Faith. It includes chapters on “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, “The Remnant”, etc. The last two presidents of the General Conference have both expressed publicly that the Adventist church will not change.
•Ellen G. White said that Daniel 8:14 is the foundation and central pillar of the Advent faith.
•A recent book on the sanctuary by Adventist leader Dr. Roy Adams is subtitled, The heart of Adventist theology.
•A recent Adult Sabbath School Bible Study Guide, entitled, The pillars of our faith includes chapters on the “The Sabbath”, “The Heavenly Sanctuary”, “The Hour of God’s Judgment”, and “The Remnant”. It includes this quotation from Early Writings, p. 263, “Jesus entered the most holy of the heavenly, at the end of the 2300 days of Daniel 8, in 1844, to make final atonement for all who could be benefitted by His mediation, and thus to cleanse the sanctuary.”
•Dr. Roy Gane stated that he was excited to know that Ratzlaff understood that the sanctuary was central to Adventists.
•Dr. Richard Davidson referred to the sanctuary as the heart of doctrine.
•Dr. Angel Rodriguez, professor of theology at the Adventist seminary and associate director of the Adventist Biblical Research Institute, stated forthrightly, “Without 1844 and the doctrine of the Sanctuary ... there is no reason for us to exist. 1844 provided for us our identity and our mission. And if we are wrong, then we are simply wrong.”
We can see that the stakes are high.
There are many, perhaps the majority, of Adventist pastors and Bible teachers who want to run as far away from Daniel 8:14, 1844 and the investigative judgment, and the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as possible. Yet the church cannot dismiss this doctrine. This doctrine is not only the central pillar in name, it is the central pillar holding up the whole Adventist identity. I agree 100% with Dr. Rodriguez on this point. If the Adventist church were to jettison this teaching, the organization would be morphed into something it is not. That is why the last two General Conference presidents have openly endorsed Ellen White and the sanctuary doctrine. If they were to admit the errors of October 22, 1844, and the investigative judgment as the cleansing of the heavenly sanctuary as taught by Ellen White, then Ellen White would fall as “a continuing and authoritative source of truth”. If Ellen White is rejected, the doctrine of the remnant church would fall on the heap. If the remnant church doctrine goes, then the Sabbath as the seal of God for end time believers and Sunday as the mark of the beast crumbles into the dust.

Ellen G. White, who claimed to have “the spirit of prophecy,” was an important early leader of the movement and taught a number of distinctive Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) doctrines, including the Investigative Judgment and Sabbatarianism. While the churchs official theology now appears to be generally in the tradition of evangelical Christianity, certain SDA claims and unique doctrines continue to raise questions. These doctrines include the SDA belief that Sunday worship will result in the “Mark of the Beast,” imbalanced teachings on keeping the commandments (baptism, Sabbath observance) that often implies a kind of salvation by works, the “Remnant Church” doctrine that implies that the SDA is or will be Gods only true church, and the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment. Adventism: Widespread trans-denominational movement inspired by William Miller’s prediction that Jesus’ “advent” (return) would take place in 1844. Even after the Great Disappointment (the date’s failure), many people in the movement continued to believe. Some suggested revised chronologies and new dates, eventually forming groups such as the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society. Others, notably Hiram Edson and Ellen G. White, suggested that the 1844 date was accurate but that a heavenly (thus invisible) event had taken place. Their teachings became the basis of Seventh-day Adventism, which eventually spawned its own offshoots, including Armstrongism and the Branch Davidians.

The belief is often accompanied by the observance of Jewish dietary laws and/or other Old Testament feasts.

White. The doctrine teaches that in the Holy of Holies in the Heavenly Sanctuary Christ is now conducting an investigation into the lives of all who have ever professed belief in Christ. He is judging all their works, by the standard of Gods Law. All those whose lives fail to measure up to the standard of the Law are rejected and condemned as not having true faith. Those whose lives meet that standard and thus manifest the perfect character and righteousness of Christ are recognized as having true faith, and so their sins are “blotted out.” SDAs say, “This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom.” Evangelicals believe, and the Bible teaches (Rom. 3:2126), that Gods justice in saving sinners who trust Jesus to save them is vindicated by the blood of JesusHis death in their place, in their behalf.
