Run batted in

Run batted in (plural runs batted in, abbreviated RBI) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations like when an error is made on the play).

Historically, the Buffalo Bisons were the first team to track RBIs. Major League Baseball did not recognize the RBI as an official statistic until 1920.

Common nicknames for an RBI include "ribby", "rib", and "ribeye". The plural of RBI is generally "RBIs", although some commentators use "RBI" as both singular and plural, as it stands for Runs Batted In.

Major League Baseball Rules

The official rulebook of Major League Baseball states in Rule 10.04:

(b) The official scorer shall not credit a run batted in

(c) The official scorer's judgment must determine whether a run batted in shall be credited for a run that scores when a fielder holds the ball or throws to a wrong base. Ordinarily, if the runner keeps going, the official scorer should credit a run batted in; if the runner stops and takes off again when the runner notices the misplay, the official scorer should credit the run as scored on a fielder's choice.

Strongly interacting massive particle

Strongly interacting massive particles (SIMPs) are hypothetical particles that interact strongly with ordinary matter, but could form the inferred dark matter despite this.

Strongly interacting massive particles have been proposed as a solution for the ultra-high-energy cosmic-ray problem and the absence of cooling flows. Various experiments and observations have set constraints on SIMP dark matter from 1990 onward.

SIMPs annhilations would produce significant heat. DAMA set limits with NaITl crystals.

Measurements of Uranus's heat excess exclude SIMPS from 150 MeV to 10⁴ GeV. Earth's heat flow significantly constrains any cross section.

Playoffs

The playoffs, postseason and/or finals of a sports league are a competition played after the regular season by the top competitors to determine the league champion or a similar accolade. Depending on the league, the playoffs may be either a single game, a series of games, or a tournament, and may use a single-elimination system or one of several other different playoff formats. Playoff, in regard to international fixtures, is to qualify or progress to the next round of a competition or tournament.

In team sports in the U.S. and Canada, the vast distances and consequent burdens on cross-country travel have led to regional divisions of teams. Generally, during the regular season, teams play more games in their division than outside it, but the league's best teams might not play against each other in the regular season. Therefore, in the postseason a playoff series is organized. Any group-winning team is eligible to participate, and as playoffs became more popular they were expanded to include second- or even lower-placed teams – the term "wild card" refers to these teams.

Jim E. Mora

James Ernest Mora (born May 24, 1935) is an American former football coach who was the head coach of the New Orleans Saints and Indianapolis Colts of the National Football League (NFL), and the Philadelphia/Baltimore Stars of the United States Football League (USFL). As an NFL head coach, he was known for turning two of its consistently losing franchises into perennial post-season contenders, but his lack of success in the NFL playoffs and impassioned postgame tirades and press conferences, including his oft-quoted "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda," "You Will Never Know," "Diddly Poo," and "Playoffs?" rants, affected his reputation. Mora holds the NFL record for career regular-season wins (125) without a playoff victory, although he did win two league titles in the USFL. His son Jim L. Mora is a former NFL head coach and the current head coach at UCLA.

Early career

Born in Glendale, California, Mora became an Eagle Scout in 1950 and was presented the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award as an adult by the Boy Scouts of America. Mora was a tight end at Occidental College, a member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, and graduated in 1957. His college roommate was Jack Kemp, an all star quarterback with the Buffalo Bills, U.S congressman from New York for 18 years and presidential candidate in 1988. Another teammate was Ron Botchan, who went on to become a successful NFL game official. After playing three years of service football in the U.S. Marines, Mora became an assistant coach at his alma mater in 1960. He moved up to head coach of Occidental in 1964 and led the team for three seasons, compiling an 18–9 record.

Gastrin-releasing peptide

Gastrin-releasing peptide, also known as GRP, is a neuropeptide, a regulatory molecule that has been implicated in a number of physiological and pathophysiological processes. Most notably, GRP stimulates the release of Gastrin from the G cells of the stomach.

The gene from which GRP is derived encodes a number of bombesin-like peptides. Its 148-amino acid preproprotein, following cleavage of a signal peptide, is further processed to produce either the 27-amino acid gastrin-releasing peptide or the 10-amino acid neuromedin C. These smaller peptides regulate numerous functions of the gastrointestinal and central nervous systems, including release of gastrointestinal hormones, smooth muscle cell contraction, and epithelial cell proliferation.

Function

Gastrin-releasing peptide is a regulatory human peptide that elicits gastrin release and regulates gastric acid secretion and enteric motor function. The post-ganglionic fibers of the vagus nerve that innervate the G cells of the stomach release GRP, which stimulates the G cells to release gastrin.

HSP90B1

Heat shock protein 90kDa beta member 1 (HSP90B1), known also as endoplasmin, gp96, grp94 and ERp99, is a chaperone protein that in humans is encoded by the HSP90B1 gene.

HSP90B1 is an HSP90 paralogue that is found in the endoplasmic reticulum. It plays critical roles in folding proteins in the secretory pathway such as Toll-like receptors and integrins. It has been implicated as an essential immune chaperone to regulate both innate and adaptive immunity. Tumor-derived HSP90B1 (vitespen) has entered clinical trials for cancer immunotherapy.
