This Aukey USB Type C Car Charger has a smooth black matte plastic body. It's easy to plug in and remove the charger from your car's lighter socket while still being secure when it's plugged in.

Now it's safe to assume most buyers who are considering this item are looking at it for the USB-C. The USB-C does the job and can be confirmed to quick/rapid charge the Nexus 6P. However this is only true when using the USB-C plug. If a USB-A -> USB-C cable is used for the Nexus 6P, it will not charge rapidly/quickly and will charge at a normal rate. Do keep in mind that the USB-A ports may still very well quick charge other devices however it will not do so with the Nexus 6P. Unfortunately I did not have any other quick charge devices to truly test the USB-A ports.

Using Ampere, I tried to measure each of the ports however these results should be taken with a grain of salt as it can vary a bit depending on the cables and devices used. In an effort to keep my tests consistent, I only tested with the Nexus 6P connected by itself for at least a minute and with the Anker 1m cables for both the USB-A and USB-C ports.

USB-A ports ~ 1400s mA -- No quick/rapid charge for the Nexus 6P
USB-C port ~ 2400s mA -- Quick/Rapid charges the Nexus 6P and charges at nearly the same rate as the Nexus 6P OEM charger.

All in all, this car charger is well built and the USB-C port for this car charger does the job.

Great spec compliant USB-C charger, provides full 3amps when used with a quality USB-C to USB-C cable, I suggest the iOrange-E c-c cable even though the 1.8m/6ft length is a big much for most automotive applications. Supports Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 which is backwards compatible with older quick charge standards. Nexus 6p shows as rapidly changing on the lockscreen and ampere confirms 2990mAh input on the phone. The 2 USB A ports that everyone is familiar with work flawlessly as well providing high speed charging of ~2.4 Amps @5v on non quick charge devices and appropriate voltage and amperage on quick charge compatible devices

Not verified purchase because this was given to me as a gift over the holiday season.

This really is as good as it gets for 2016. Full 3A Type-C charging plus the full range of QuickCharge options... and all work as advertised, simultaneously. Until USB-A goes away for good, this one will have a place in my car.

Some quick notes -

For Nexus 6P/5X owners, yes, you get 3A (it ramps down as your battery fills up). Note: if you choose to use a spec-compliant USB A-to-C cable instead of C-to-C, you will only get 2.4 max (but more like 1.5 in reality). So if you have two Nexus phones in your family, someone will have to suffer slower charging.

For most QuickCharge 3.0/2.0 capable phones - the charger will run a wide spectrum of QC 3/2 voltages and amps, up to ~18W (again, depending on your current charge level and what your phone is doing).

For almost everyone - you'll be able to charge any device in your car as fast as you can in your house.

This charger is exactly what I was looking for because I now have a phone that utilizes USB-C while her phone is using Micro USB, her phone also uses Qualcom Quick Charge 2.0 which this supports. As soon as I plugged my phone in I saw that it was Rapidly charging so I knew I was off to a good start. Plugged her phone into the USB-A slot and her phone came up quick charging which is all I wanted this charger to do and that is exactly what it did.

Design wise I like the way the charger feels and it doesn't feel too plasticy or cheap. It is definitely wider then most of my chargers but your stuffing 3 ports into it so I am not sure how narrow you can expect it to be.

When I picked up my Nexus 6P, I knew USB C was going to be tough, but it's amazing how many different things you need to buy for it. This charger should definitely be at the top of your list. It charges USB C devices extremely quickly and works flawlessly. It even supports the upcoming Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 standard which should be huge on microUSB devices this year.

Worth every penny! You'll love it.

The Aukey CC-Y4 has replaced a couple of chargers in my car. It is convenient. It is advanced technology. It is powerful. It is a must have if you have one of the devices that it supports.
Let’s talk further about these features. The convenience that this charger offers is the fact that you can charge two devices at a time in your car. After all, this is not special at all, for many other chargers can do that. What sets this one apart is the fact once you plug it into the cigarette lighter socket, you can leverage 4.8A of power. Two ports emit 24W of power. That's enough to charge two devices simultaneously! I am very greedy and I am okay with this kind of power
What about compatibility?
You can use this charger with the Type-C cable to charge Type-C supported devices like Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Lumia 950, Lumia 950XL, OnePlus 2, Macbook 2015 and more. The negative aspect of this is the limited list of compatible devices as the technology is new. The positive aspect is the new devices are compatible. For instance, storage devices will eventually benefit from Type-C USB 3.1 protocol. LaCie’s storage drives, flash drives from Emtec, SanDisk’s 32GB flash drive are all great high capacity drives that leverage the Type C connector.
Once you understand the benefits and features of USB Type-C, it is hard not to be an adopter. The Type-C port connector is very similar to the Micro-B USB. A great benefit is you do not have to keep turning the cable, finding which portion fits or not.
In addition, the AiPower Adaptive Charging technology detects the input current of the connected devices to maximize both compatibility and charging. It provides some guaranteed on the safety for over-heated, over-current, and over-charging protection.Read more ›
