11. Al-Adl 3 seed letters: A-D-L Meanings: The Just, The Balancer. True balance and harmony, harmonizing. Perfect Harmony إِنَّا كُلَّ شَيْءٍ خَلَقْنَاهُ بِقَدَرٍ “Behold, everything have We created in due measure and proportion.” (Qur’an, 54:49) • There is perfect balance and harmony in creation… • Nothing is happening haphazardly, and everything is interconnected. In this activity, the attributes of balancer and harmonizer can be seen clearly. To understand absolute justice, we need to see the whole picture… • Now, when we see all this balancing, and look at our thoughts and actions, we also notice a great balance… وَالسَّمَاءَ رَفَعَهَا وَوَضَعَ الْمِيزَانَ أَلَّا تَطْغَوْا فِي الْمِيزَانِ وَأَقِيمُوا الْوَزْنَ بِالْقِسْطِ وَلَا تُخْسِرُوا الْمِيزَانَ “And the skies has He raised high, and has devised [for all things] a measure, so that you too, might never transgress the measure [of what is right]: weigh, therefore, with equity, and cut not the measure short!” (Qur’an, 55:7-9) Without recognition of the reality of the hereafter and its presence here and right now, we cannot see justice. • None of our actions are without consequences. There may or may not be physical consequences, but immaterial consequences can be seen immediately. o Hell and heaven are expressions of harmony. God-centered actions bring God-centered Peace here and now, whereas self-centered actions bring hellish states. o Cleansing by reconnecting to Divine Mercy brings Peace back to our lives. • We can understand the divine name Al-Muntaqim (The Disapprover, The Avenger) in this way… • “You reap what you sow” is an all-pervading truth… o If I close my eyes, all I see is darkness. The repercussion is in my action! وَمَنْ أَظْلَمُ مِمَّن ذُكِّرَ بِآيَاتِ رَبِّهِ ثُمَّ أَعْرَضَ عَنْهَا إِنَّا مِنَ الْمُجْرِمِينَ مُنتَقِمُونَ “And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the messages of his Sustainer; then he turns away from them? Indeed We, from those who transgress, will take retribution.” (Qur’an, 32:22) • Divine Love encompasses justice. • If we didn’t know the repercussions of our actions, how could we be guided to the truth? • I am transgressing against my own soul… Justice reminds me of the wrong way! • God is gentle, and He is always inviting me to His Presence, through apparent ease or difficulty... o And I can always turn back to Him! o When I turn to him, I recognize that the repercussions of my actions were an invitation for me to come back; I thank God for everything!
