Central Railroad of New Jersey Heritage Unit Leads Pan Am Southern 23K

On September 11, 2013, the Central Railroad of New Jersey heritage unit, NS SD70ACe 1071, arrived at Ayer in middle position on eastbound train 22K at around 0330hrs. Expecting the unit to be in the same position for the trip westbound I was not anticipating an afternoon/evening chase over District 3. However, thanks to the efforts of the crew as well as the fact that the unit needed water and had to by wyed in the process, "Lady Liberty" came to the appropriate call to lead the train westbound on this September 11th. After arriving about 30 minutes late at Shirley, I managed to catch up with the train first at Otter River, followed by Brookside Road overpass east of Orange, Wendell, and lastly crawling over the Millers River on the 10 MPH track 1 at Erving as the darkness settles in. The staff at American Eagle Rail takes a weekend off to embark on the companies new video Series "Railroad Heritage Road Trips." This first video features Nostalgia Station Toy and Train Museum located in Versailles, Kentucky. Located just about 30 minutes from downtown Lexington, Kentucky and just a short hour from Cincinnati, Ohio this little museum is packed with nostalgic toys and trains. Located in a restored 1911 Louisville & Nashville Passenger Station the Nostalgia Station is home to antique toys and electric trains from the 1890's to the present date. There are two operating LIONEL dealer type train layouts (a 1926 version and a 1956 version) in the museum along with several hundred LIONEL, American Flyer, IVES, MARX, Bing, Carlisle & Finch, Dorfan and Hafner trains and accessories in various gauges ranging from HO to Standard gauges. The building in which the Nostalgia Station is located in is a vintage 1911 Louisville & Nashville Railroad Passenger Station, which has been restored to its original appearance inside and out; depicting the vanishing charm of the early American Depot. Also on Display are original railroad artifacts such as lanterns, stamps, telegraphic items and signals. The original semaphore signal remains to this day in front of the station! To see everything in the museum we recommend a minimum of thirty (30) minutes to take everything in. The station offers a nice LIONEL hobby shop and is handicapped accessible. Off street parking can accommodate large caravans including tour busses. If you are a serious model railroad enthusiast or railroad heritage buff, this location offers a wonderful step back into time. Stop by and say hello to Winfrey and Wanda Adkins, Proprietors of the Nostalgia Station in Versailles, Kentucky. You'll quickly find that there are many other nearby attractions and learn of their commitment to railway preservation. The museums hours of operations are Wednesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m. The station is located at 279 Depot Street near to downtown Versailles, Kentucky. The museums telephone number is 859-873-2497 and remember to tell Winfrey or Wanda that the guys from the American Eagle Railroad Group suggested you visit with them. Wonderful folks, fantastic collection all wrapped up in a vintage setting.
