Romania (i/roʊˈmeɪniə/ roh-MAY-nee-ə; Romanian: România [romɨˈni.a]) is a unitary semi-presidential republic located in Southeastern Europe, bordering the Black Sea, between Bulgaria and Ukraine. It also borders Hungary, Serbia, and Moldova. It covers 238,391 square kilometres (92,043 sq mi) and has a temperate-continental climate. With its 19.94 million inhabitants, it is the seventh most populous member state of the European Union. Its capital and largest city, Bucharest, is the sixth largest city in the EU.
The River Danube, which is Europe's second longest river after the Volga, rises in Germany and flows southeastwards for a distance of 2,857 km, coursing through ten countries before emptying in Romania's Danube Delta. Some of its 1,075 km length bordering the country drains the whole of it. The Carpathian Mountains, with their tallest peak Moldoveanu at 2,544 m (8,346 ft), cross Romania from the north to the southwest.
Modern Romania emerged within the territories of the ancient Roman province of Dacia, and was formed in 1859 through a personal union of the Danubian Principalities of Moldavia and Wallachia. The new state, officially named Romania since 1866, gained independence from the Ottoman Empire in 1877. At the end of World War I, Transylvania, Bukovina and Bessarabia united with the sovereign Kingdom of Romania. During World War II, Romania was an ally of Nazi Germany against the Soviet Union, fighting side by side with the Wehrmacht until 1944, then it joined the Allied powers after being occupied by the Red Army forces. During the war, Romania lost several territories, of which Northern Transylvania was regained after the war. Following the war, Romania became a socialist republic and member of the Warsaw Pact. After the 1989 Revolution, Romania began a transition back towards democracy and a capitalist market economy.
Sighișoara (Romanian pronunciation: [siɡiˈʃo̯ara]; German: Schäßburg, pronounced [ˈʃɛsbʊɐ̯k]; Hungarian: Segesvár, pronounced [ˈʃɛɡɛʃvaːr]; Latin: Castrum Sex) is a city on the Târnava Mare River in Mureș County, Romania. Located in the historic region of Transylvania, Sighișoara has a population of 28,102 according to the 2011 census.
The city administers seven villages: Angofa, Aurel Vlaicu, Hetiur, Rora, Șoromiclea, Venchi and Viilor.
During the 12th century, German craftsmen and merchants known as the Transylvanian Saxons were invited to Transylvania by the King of Hungary to settle and defend the frontier of his realm. The chronicler Krauss lists a Saxon settlement in present-day Sighișoara by 1191. A document of 1280 records a town built on the site of a Roman fort as Castrum Sex or "six-sided camp", referring to the fort's shape of an irregular hexagon. Other names recorded include Schaäsburg (1282), Schespurg (1298) and Segusvar (1300). By 1337 Sighișoara had become a royal center for the kings, who awarded the settlement urban status in 1367 as the Civitas de Segusvar.
Clock towers are a common sight in many parts of the world with some being iconic buildings. One example is the Elizabeth Tower in London commonly called 'Big Ben' (although this name strictly refers to the bell inside the tower). Clock towers are a specific type of building which houses a turret clock and has one or more clock faces on the upper exterior walls. Many clock towers are freestanding structures but they can also adjoin or be located on top of another building.
There are many structures which may have clocks or clock faces attached to them and some structures have had clocks added to an existing structure. According to the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat a building is defined as such if at least fifty percent of its height is made up of floor plates containing habitable floor area. Structures that do not meet this criterion, are defined as towers. A clock tower historically fits this definition of a tower and therefore can be defined as any tower specifically built with one or more (often four) clock faces and that can be either freestanding or part of a church or municipal building such as a town hall. Not all clocks on buildings therefore make the building into a clock tower.
Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia (1431–1476/77), was a member of the House of Drăculești, a branch of the House of Basarab, also known, using his patronymic, as Vlad Drăculea or Vlad Dracula (Old Church Slavonic: Владъ Дрьколъ). He was posthumously dubbed Vlad the Impaler (modern Romanian: Vlad Țepeș, pronounced [ˈvlad ˈt͡sepeʃ]).
He was a three-time Voivode of Wallachia, ruling mainly from 1456 to 1462, the period of the incipient Ottoman conquest of the Balkans. His father, Vlad II Dracul, was a member of the Order of the Dragon, which was founded to protect Christianity in Eastern Europe. Vlad III is revered as a folk hero in Romania and Bulgaria for his protection of the Romanians and Bulgarians both north and south of the Danube. Following his raids on the Ottomans, a significant number of Bulgarian common folk and remaining boyars resettled north of the Danube to Wallachia and recognized his leadership.
As the cognomen "The Impaler" suggests, his practice of impaling his enemies is part of his historical reputation. During his lifetime, his reputation for excessive cruelty spread abroad, to Germany and elsewhere in Europe. The name of the vampire Count Dracula in Bram Stoker's 1897 novel Dracula was inspired by Vlad's patronymic and reputation.
Transylvania (Romanian: Transilvania or Ardeal, Hungarian: Erdély, German: Siebenbürgen or Transsilvanien, Polish: Siedmiogród, Latin: Transsilvania, Turkish: Erdel) is a historical region in the central part of Romania. Bound on the east and south by its natural borders, the Carpathian mountain range, historical Transylvania extended eastward to the Apuseni Mountains. The term sometimes encompasses not only Transylvania proper, but also the historical regions of Crișana, Maramureș and Romanian part of Banat. The region of Transylvania is known for the scenic beauty of its Carpathian landscape and its rich history. It also contains major Romanian cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Brașov and Sibiu. In the English-speaking world it has been commonly associated with vampires, chiefly due to the influence of Bram Stoker's famous novel Dracula as well as the many later film adaptations.
In Romanian, the region is known as Ardeal (pronounced [arˈde̯al]) or Transilvania (pronounced [transilˈvani.a]); in Hungarian as Erdély (pronounced [ɛrdeːj]); in German as Siebenbürgen (pronounced [ˈziːbn̩ˌbʏʁɡn̩]); and in Turkish as Transilvanya (pronounced [tɾansilˈvanja]) but historically as Erdel or Erdehstan; see also other denominations.

Normally tourists only do a day trip, visiting Sighisoara for only a few hours then returning to other nearby cities. I decided to spend the night here. Sighisoara is best known as the birth place of Vlad the Impaler and has a picturesque old town area. I wander and explore the area! Seven Grey is a nomadic minimalist who is wandering the world. A video of my visit to Sighisoara, Romania. Sighisoara, popular for being the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler (Dracula), is a beautiful little city nestled in the heart of the Carpathian foothills. The city was founded by the Transylvanian Saxons sometime in the 12th century and today it's one of the best preserved and most picturesque medieval towns in all of Europe. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sighisoara is only a short drive from Brasov and easy to reach from Bucharest if that's where you're staying during your visit to Romania. Keep up with me online! A MEDIEVAL TREASURE OF TRANSYLVANIA. Sighișoara became one of the most important cities of Transylvania, with artisans from throughout the Holy Roman Empire visiting the settlement. I stayed 5 days in this town, capturing some of the most important elements that makes this town so desirable to visit. Sighișoara is considered to be the most beautiful and well-preserved inhabited citadel in Europe, with authentic medieval architecture. Sighisoara was our third stop in our Transylvania Road Trip. It is very rich in history and has an amazing architecture. This medieval city has a very charming appeal. Not to mention that it was the birth place of the original Dracula (Vlad Tepes). Our most favorite site here is the main square (citadel) itself. People watching, eating ice cream, drinking coffee, checking out restaurants, taking lots of photos as it is so photogenic and just simply resting under the tree are few of our favorite activities here. We are 100% recommending for you guys to visit this place. Sighişoara is a medieval town located inside the Carpathian arch, in the historical region Transylvania. Sighişoara's charm is given by its narrow cobblestone streets, the historic buildings, the defence walls and towers of the old citadel and the medieval festivals. Discover Sighişoara, one of the most beautiful fortified towns, included on the UNESCO's World Heritage list. Find out more: http://myde.st/QTYHwy
Founded by Transylvanian Saxons during the 12th century, Sighisoara (Schassburg in German) still stands as one of the most beautiful and best-preserved medieval towns in Europe. Designated as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, this perfectly intact 16th century gem with nine towers, cobbled streets, burgher houses and ornate churches rivals the historic streets of Old Prague or Vienna for atmospheric magic. It is also the birthplace of Vlad Dracula, also known as Vlad Tepes (Vlad the Impaler), ruler of the province of Walachia from 1456 to 1462. It was he who inspired Bram Stoker's fictional creation, Count Dracula. His house is just one of the many attractions here. Others include the Church on the Hill with its 500-year-old frescoes, the 13th century Venetian House and the Church of the D...

It is the oldest and continuously entirety inhabited citadel in Southeast Europe. The fortress and medieval burgh were built by Saxon settlers beginning in the twelfth century. The settlement has developed rapidly, so that already in the fifteenth century reached the form that we see today. Flourishing city is largely due to guilds system. The guilds were also responsible for raising and maintaining the city walls (totaling 930 m long) and the 14 towers (of which remained 9). Take a tour of Town of Sighisoara in Sighisoara, Romania -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats. The brightly colored houses, lining a narrow, medieval, stone street mark the town of Sighisoara. This centuries-old Romanian town can be found in the famous region of Transylvania. It is best known for its many historic towers, especially the prominent Sighisoara Clock Tower. The town first came into being in the 12th century, when it was settled by merchants. It grew quickly and became a strong and prosperous place during the Medieval Ages. Sighisoara is one of Romania's best epicenters of ancient and medieval houses, churches, and towers.
Planul orasului-cetate este caracteristic oraselor germane intemeiate in evul mediu tarziu.

Transylvania boasts in various extremely beautiful landscapes. Its mountaintops are crowned by castle ruins, in its steep creeks rivers are twisting. In the giant wooden lands caves can be found, while among the alpine snow-capped mountains tarns are awaiting the tourists. Unique sights are the Békás Canyon and the Killer's Lake, which guards the petrified pinewoods. The warm springs feed such spa-resorts as Tusnádfürdő or Szováta. The medieval towns surrounded by towers and walls tell us tales of the past. National costumes, carved Székely-gates and the works of the Korond potters represent the ancient art of the folks living here. A legend or a story belongs to almost every city, every castle, no matter if it is the tall Déva castle, Hunyadvár or Brán, the Castle of Count Dracula.

Sper sa va placa! :D ♥ Like, Subscribe, ştiţi voi. We visited Sighisoara the hometown of Dracula and it wasnt disappointment, town was really old and beautiful. luckily its still bit off season so there wasnt that much people even if we saw tourist busses for the first time ages. From Sighisoara we drived to lake called Bezid and where we found really nice place to spend a night: https://goo.gl/maps/eEzHWGZL6dM2 Lake Rosu...
This is a clip of video shots, taken on the 24.9.2013, in Sighisoara. The pictures include the railway station and the old city, including, of course, the house of Dracula's father, in which Dracula was born.

Then we'll head into Transylvania, where we'll visit fortified churches, cobbled merchant towns like Sighișoara, and castles made famous by an imported German king and the real-life Dracula. Finally we'll explore Maramureș, where everyday life still feels like an open-air folk museum. Snipping, snipping, snipping goes the scissor man
Putting end to evil doers games

Maybe you are in his book of names
Maybe you are in his book of names
So be kind and helpful to your mother
Just think twice before you try and steal
When he cuts with sticky silver snippers
You may find the wounds will never heal
All self made bad boys
If you refuse to believe he exist
You won't be frightened when you find out
You're on his list
You're on his list
You're on his list
So be good and never poison people
Just think twice before the deed is done
When you wake up guilty in the morning
