Gypsy Child Thieves (BBC Documentary)
Gypsy Child Thieves (BBC Documentary)
Across Europe children are being forced onto the streets to beg and steal. They come from one of the poorest communities in Europe - the Romanian Gypsies. For centuries Gypsies have lived on the margins of society and faced brutal discrimination. Many have resorted to stealing and begging to survive. But in the last 20 years, organised crime has taken over. And since 2007, when Romania joined the EU, Gypsy children have been trafficked and exploited on a much larger scale. In an attempt to understand what is happening to these children Romanian film-maker Liviu Tipurita embarks on a journey through Europe which takes him inside the closed world of the Gypsy community, and talks to the authorities and institutions meant to be dealing with this disturbing phenomenon.- published: 19 Nov 2012

The Iron Curtain Diaries - Trailer
About the project:
November, the 9th, 1999. The fall of the Berlin Wall set the seal on the end of the Iron Curtain, a fence some 7 thousand chilometres that split Europe in two spheres of influence. A division that lasted from the end of World War II to the end of the Cold War. How did the lives of those who grew up along this ideological and political border change? How did the dreams of the boys who jumped on the Wall to celebrate a regained freedom end up?
After twenty years from the historical date, four editorial staff - Peacereporter journalist agency, Matteo Scanni, movie director, Becco Giallo comic Editor and Prospekt Photojournalist agency - have decided to travel along the former Iron Curtain border and to tell what it was. Two teams provided by videocamera, photocamera, audio recorder and drawing paper have left from Berlin toward two directions: the first heads to the north has travelled along Germany, Polland, Estonia, Lithuania and Russia; while the second heads to the south has touched Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
They come back to the headquarter with dozen of interviews to writers, politicians, musicians, sport people, photographers, dissidents and ordinary people. whose lives have changed after the Berlin Wall fallen down. These stories create a big fresco, a celebration of the ideals, but also speak about the collapse of the dreams of a new western lifestyle.
The project resultant is a surfing website, hightly interactive within 35 mini-movies with a variable duration from 2 to 10 minuts. Following the points of the path along a map of the old Europe, the user can discover the laps of the trip, read informations texts, listen to the original audio files from that time, share the lives of the persons who born under the curtain shadow. The narrative style is new, and merges video, photos, comics, animation, graphic and music.
Awards:
The project has been shortlisted at VISA POUR L’IMAGE 2009 at Perpignan as one of the 9 best world web documentaries.
It has been shortlisted at the Festival Europeen des Quarte Ecrans of the Pompidou Centre at Paris.
It has been shortlisted at IDFA-International Documentary Film Festival in Amsterdam.

Love Letters from a children's prison. preview trailer
David Kinsella productions AS. production of documentary film.
Love Letters from a Children's prison is 54 minutes long.
Love letters from a Children's Prison brings us into a prison for teenagers. Many of the boys here will spend most of their lives in jail, convicted for hard crime – murders, rapes and robbery. The main reason why they are here is poverty, alcoholism, the weakness or absence of their families, and that they see no posibility of a decent future. Thousands of young boys, living on the edge of society, are fighting to survive from one week to the next.
The film relates the story of a girl in love with a boy who is convicted for murder. They are writing love letters. She is trying to make him a better human, - to prepare him for a new life outside the walls. But his fellow prisoners are teenage murderers and rapists, and their influence on him is devastating.
The film is about hope, love and young men that has become totally brutalized. Will our young man end up as the others, or is there a posibility that Ira can save him with her love?

Operation Nexus - MPS joins forces with officers from Poland and Romania
Today (24 October) the Met unveils its latest weapon in the fight against offenders from abroad - police colleagues from Romania and Poland. This groundbreaking, three-way initiative has been made possible through an EU grant of more than 1.5 million euros and through the direct support of the Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime. Eight Romanian and three Polish officers are to work in London alongside Operation Nexus colleagues over a two-year period, along with dedicated analytical and intelligence support. Experienced specialist officers from Poland will be on six-month rotations and Romanian officers on three-month rotations. Working alongside the central Operation Nexus team, from the Specialist and Organised Crime Command, they will be focusing their attention on improving the 'real-time' flow of intelligence from their home countries around people arrested in the capital for crime. They will also be providing support to Met officers on targeted proactive and reactive crime operations and supporting members of the Polish and Romanian communities who have become victims of crime.- published: 24 Oct 2013
