SYNOPSIS: Madras is a 2014 Tamil political drama film written and directed by Pa. Ranjith. The film stars Karthi alongside Catherine Tresa, Kalaiyarasan, Vinod and Riythvika. The film was produced and distributed by Studio Green in association with Dream Factory. Santhosh Narayanan composed the soundtrack and score, while the editing was handled by Praveen K. L Principal Photography commenced on 11 October 2013 at Vyasarpadi in Chennai. Most of the film's shooting was done in localities in and around the northern part of the city, namely Kasimedu, a locality in the Royapuram area of north Chennai, Otteriand Perambur. Filming was wrapped up by June 2014.[4] The film released on 26 September 2014 to critical acclaim.
Kaleeswaran (Karthi) is an impulsive and short tempered working class man who works in an IT company and enjoys playing football during his free time. His best friend is Anbu (Kalaiyarasan), who is a young political aspirant. They along with their gang live in the dilapidated flats of the housing board in Vyasarpadi, North Chennai. In a long-standing bloody feud, two factions of a political party have been laying claim to a wall on which they can paint the portraits of their respective political leaders. Anbu, under the local leader of one of the opposing parties, Maari (Vinod), is determined to claim that wall for their own party. The Other party chief is Kannan and his son Perumal who are hell bent in making sure that their opponents efforts go in vain. Painting of Kannan's father's face has been on the wall for 2 decades, since the start of the feud. The two parties and their supporters get into frequent clashes and scrapes. In the meantime, Kaali falls in love with Kalaiarasi (Catherine Tresa) and she too reciprocates his feelings.
In a spur of motivation due to the upcoming elections, Anbu reserves the said wall for their party. Although the wall is in their area and technically theirs, the opposition ask Maari's party to give it up as the portrait of their patriarch had been there for quite some time. Moreover, since three deaths had previously taken place in connection to the wall, along with the deaths of members from both parties, people have started to consider the wall a bad omen. Anbu, bolstered by Kaali, however, declines. The opposing party members plan to assassinate both Kaali and Anbu. When henchmen are sent forth to kill Anbu and Kaali, they somehow escape and hide behind a van. They see the Perumal,who doesn't notice them, taking through phone, giving orders to kill anbu at any cost. In a fit of rage, Kaali kills him with a straight hit to head using a crowbar. Anbu and Kaali are told by Maari to surrender at Kanchipuram district court to avoid being killed by the henchmen. Also, the FIR report filed against them contains only Anbu's name. Anbu takes responsibility of the murder, despite Kaali being against it, and hopes to be released soon. However, just outside the court, some henchmen hack Anbu to death and injure Kaali seriously. Kaali slides into depression by guilt and swears revenge, but is advised against violence by Kalaiarasi, his parents as well as Maari. Kalaiarasi comforts him and brings his life back to normalcy and they get engaged. Maari promises Kaali that they will avenge Anbu together.
One day when Kaali and Kalaiarasi are at a restaurant, he notices one of the henchmen of Maari sitting at the next table. When he goes up to him to talk, he runs away in fear. Surprised, Kaali chases him. It is revealed that Maari has joined hands with the opposing party for political gain and it was he who had Anbu assassinated. Kalaiarasi, though reluctant to let Kaali pursue his revenge, lets him go. At a local meeting where Maari is being felicitated, Kaali spills the beans about Maari and the locals chase Maari out. In a final act, Kaali splashes paint on the wall thus ruining the portrait. Soon everyone follows suit. Maari plots to kill Kaali. However, Maari is betrayed by the touted successor of the opposing party when he tries to kill Kaali. Kaali, in a final fight sequence, subdues the henchmen sent to kill him and grievously injures Maari, who is soon killed.
Kaali and Kalaiarasi start teaching in the building whose wall was the cause of this blood feud. The wall now has a theme of children's education painted on it. Both the parties still wait to claim the wall soon.

Chennai /ˈtʃɛnaɪ/, formerly Madras /məˈdræs/, is the capital city of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Located on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, it is a major commercial, cultural, and educational centre in South India, while the port of Chennai is the second largest port in India. As of the 2011 census, the city had 4.68 million residents making it the sixth most populous city in India; the urban agglomeration, which comprises the city and its suburbs, was home to approximately 8.9 million, making it the fourth most populous metropolitan area in the country.
Although the area has been part of successive South Indian kingdoms through centuries, the recorded history of the city began in the colonial times, specifically with the arrival of British East India Company and the establishment in 1644 of Fort St George, an English settlement. The British defended several attacks from the French colonial forces, and from the kingdom of Mysore, on Chennai's way to become a major naval port and presidency city by late eighteenth century. Following the independence of India, Chennai became the capital of Tamil Nadu and a hotbed of regional politics that tended to bank on Dravidian identity of the populace. Chennai had become a bustling metropolis with beautiful classical and colonial European styled buildings, lining the city’s thoroughfares.

The 2nd edition of the Behindwoods Film Festival (BFF) celebrated 2014's Ten Best Films that touched our hearts and are etched in our memories. The movies featured were Goli Soda, Mundasupatti, Pisaasu, Kochadaiiyaan, Madras, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Saivam, Velaiyilla Pattathari, Kaththi and Jigarthanda. SYNOPSIS: Madras is a 2014 Tamil political drama film written and directed by Pa. Ranjith. The film stars Karthi alongside Catherine Tresa, Kalaiyarasan, Vinod and Riythvika. The film was produced and distributed by Studio Green in association with Dream Factory. Santhosh Narayanan composed the soundtrack and score, while the editing was handled by Praveen K. L Principal Photography commenced on 11 October 2013 at Vyasarpadi in Chennai. Most of the film's shooting was done in localities in and around the northern part of the city, namely Kasimedu, a locality in the Royapuram area of north Chennai, Otteriand Perambur. Filming was wrapped up by June 2014.[4] The film released on 26 September 2014 to critical acclaim.
Kaleeswaran (Karthi) is an impulsive and short tempered working class man who works in an IT company and enjoys playing football during his free time. His best friend is Anbu (Kalaiyarasan), who is a young political aspirant. They along with their gang live in the dilapidated flats of the housing board in Vyasarpadi, North Chennai. In a long-standing bloody feud, two factions of a political party have been laying claim to a wall on which they can paint the portraits of their respective political leaders. Anbu, under the local leader of one of the opposing parties, Maari (Vinod), is determined to claim that wall for their own party. The Other party chief is Kannan and his son Perumal who are hell bent in making sure that their opponents efforts go in vain. Painting of Kannan's father's face has been on the wall for 2 decades, since the start of the feud. The two parties and their supporters get into frequent clashes and scrapes. In the meantime, Kaali falls in love with Kalaiarasi (Catherine Tresa) and she too reciprocates his feelings.
In a spur of motivation due to the upcoming elections, Anbu reserves the said wall for their party. Although the wall is in their area and technically theirs, the opposition ask Maari's party to give it up as the portrait of their patriarch had been there for quite some time. Moreover, since three deaths had previously taken place in connection to the wall, along with the deaths of members from both parties, people have started to consider the wall a bad omen. Anbu, bolstered by Kaali, however, declines. The opposing party members plan to assassinate both Kaali and Anbu. When henchmen are sent forth to kill Anbu and Kaali, they somehow escape and hide behind a van. They see the Perumal,who doesn't notice them, taking through phone, giving orders to kill anbu at any cost. In a fit of rage, Kaali kills him with a straight hit to head using a crowbar. Anbu and Kaali are told by Maari to surrender at Kanchipuram district court to avoid being killed by the henchmen. Also, the FIR report filed against them contains only Anbu's name. Anbu takes responsibility of the murder, despite Kaali being against it, and hopes to be released soon. However, just outside the court, some henchmen hack Anbu to death and injure Kaali seriously. Kaali slides into depression by guilt and swears revenge, but is advised against violence by Kalaiarasi, his parents as well as Maari. Kalaiarasi comforts him and brings his life back to normalcy and they get engaged. Maari promises Kaali that they will avenge Anbu together.
One day when Kaali and Kalaiarasi are at a restaurant, he notices one of the henchmen of Maari sitting at the next table. When he goes up to him to talk, he runs away in fear. Surprised, Kaali chases him. It is revealed that Maari has joined hands with the opposing party for political gain and it was he who had Anbu assassinated. Kalaiarasi, though reluctant to let Kaali pursue his revenge, lets him go. At a local meeting where Maari is being felicitated, Kaali spills the beans about Maari and the locals chase Maari out. In a final act, Kaali splashes paint on the wall thus ruining the portrait. Soon everyone follows suit. Maari plots to kill Kaali. However, Maari is betrayed by the touted successor of the opposing party when he tries to kill Kaali. Kaali, in a final fight sequence, subdues the henchmen sent to kill him and grievously injures Maari, who is soon killed.
Kaali and Kalaiarasi start teaching in the building whose wall was the cause of this blood feud. The wall now has a theme of children's education painted on it. Both the parties still wait to claim the wall soon.

The 2nd edition of the Behindwoods Film Festival (BFF) celebrated 2014's Ten Best Films that touched our hearts and are etched in our memories. The movies featured were Goli Soda, Mundasupatti, Pisaasu, Kochadaiiyaan, Madras, Vaayai Moodi Pesavum, Saivam, Velaiyilla Pattathari, Kaththi and Jigarthanda. The festival kicked off with the screening of these ten movies from Jan 23 to 25 at NFDC's Tagore Film Center, Chennai. This was followed by an interactive workshop on Jan 26th at the Lady Andal Auditorium,Chennai, involving the cast and crew of each film with a lively audience. The cast & crew of these ten movies were also honored with the Behindwoods Film Festival Awards by respected senior members of film fraternity.

My wife and I visited Chennai India to teach our branch club in July 2011. These are not the worst streets or traffic in Chennai, but a commercial travel guide would rather you didn't see or experience this on your vacation in mystical India... Note people living on the sidewalks, piles of refuse along the streets, animals and pedestrians in the roads, all manner of vehicles going every which way - and not a policeman in sight. I got a chance to drive in Chennai City located in Tamil Nadu, India. It was a great experience to see a lot of traffic and a multicultural population. Chennai, formerly known as Madras is one of the largest metropolitan cities in India. It is ranked as one of the 50 most populated cities in the world (yes, the world). It is the capital of the South Indian state Tamil Nadu, and most people speak Tamil and English here.
I drove a lot around Saidapet, K.K Nagar, Anna Salai, Adyar and T.Nagar. These are the prime areas of Chennai city. However, most of my footage is useless because of my bad videography and bumpy roads. I hope you will find it interesting to watch this video of driving in Chennai.

I got a chance to drive in Chennai City located in Tamil Nadu, India. It was a great experience to see a lot of traffic and a multicultural population. Chennai, formerly known as Madras is one of the largest metropolitan cities in India. It is ranked as one of the 50 most populated cities in the world (yes, the world). It is the capital of the South Indian state Tamil Nadu, and most people speak Tamil and English here.
I drove a lot around Saidapet, K.K Nagar, Anna Salai, Adyar and T.Nagar. These are the prime areas of Chennai city. However, most of my footage is useless because of my bad videography and bumpy roads. I hope you will find it interesting to watch this video of driving in Chennai.

The first line of Phase 1 has been partially completed and is open for public service. About 55% of the corridors in Phase I are underground, with the remaining corridors elevated.
Upon full completion, Chennai Metro Rail will be the first metro project in the country that will integrate other public transportation systems. The project is expected to reduce the commuting time by 75% from one end of the city to another. The state and central governments are also working together for the CMRL to takeover the Chennai Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) so that the latter would get a makeover with modernised stations, integrated ticketing systems, better facilities for passengers, increased frequency of services taking into consideration passenger demands, and also lead to better maintenance.
The first stretch of Chennai Metro Rail, covering the seven stations from Koyambedu to Alandur over a distance of 10 kilometres (6.2 mi),[2] began operation on 29 June 2015. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalitha flagged off Metro service while Preethi, one of the women drivers of Chennai Metro, drove the train out of Alandhur station. The air is filled with the buzz of the buyers and sellers; just like Ranganathan Street in T. Nagar. People from south Chennai, Chengalpattu and Kancheepuram throng this place every Friday in order to enjoy good bargains.
The sandhai dates back to the days of Freedom Struggle. Even as early as 1800s soldiers bought animals from traders here but things changed over the years. The produce of the market has undergone a sea change to suit needs of the people. As the sandhai assembles on Fridays, the whole venue, it seems, bursts at the seams, what with the traffic chaos, the cops on duty, the people literally rubbing shoulders with one another. So many goods, though most of them second-hand, sold at cheaper prices. The traders from various parts of Chennai converge here, converse with consumers in a familiar tone, and convince them to buy articles, of course, for a song.

You can see some of the oldest temple rituals conducted in these temples, just the way they were done in the past.
I visited four major ancient temples in Chennai. Though I started early in the morning at 6.30am, the temple trail took the major part of the day, despite the fact that I had a cab with me. Of course, you can just do a few temples and not do the entire trail.
