The Small One

The Small One is a 1978 animated featurette produced by Walt Disney Productions and originally released theatrically by Buena Vista Distribution on December 16, 1978 with a Christmas 1978 re-issue of Pinocchio. The story is based on a children's book by Charles Tazewell and was an experiment for the new generation of Disney animators including Don Bluth, Richard Rich, Henry Selick, Gary Goldman and John Pomeroy.

The story tells of a young boy, outside Nazareth, who must part with his best friend, an old donkey named Small One. He brings it to market, but no one is in need of a "scrawny donkey", except for a tanner.

Plot summary

Outside of the city of Nazareth, a young boy and his father own four donkeys. Three of these donkeys are young and strong. The fourth donkey, Small One, is old and weak, but the boy loves him anyway. Everyday, the boy and the donkey play together before they go to work, helping the boy's father to collect wood.

The boy and his father take the donkeys to work one morning, as they always do. Many times, the boy loads Small One with small sticks, since Small One can't carry heavy loads any more. Small One even has trouble carrying stacks of small sticks and the boy helps to carry them for him.

Colour the Small One

Colour the Small One is the third album by Australian singer-songwriter Sia, which was released in Australia and the United Kingdom on 19 January 2004. It was issued in the United States on 3 February 2004. Production was by Jimmy Hogarth, who also co-wrote three tracks and provided various instruments. It was re-released 10 January 2006 in the US, after the track "Breathe Me" became popular on alternative radio, following its feature as the closing song in the series finale of the HBO drama Six Feet Under (aired August 2005). The album peaked at No. 14 on the Billboard Top Heatseekers Albums Chart. In July 2011 "Breathe Me" was also featured in the ABC Family television film, cyberbu//y.

Background and recording

From 2000, Sia was based in the UK and her previous solo album, Healing Is Difficult, appeared in 2001, however she was unhappy with the promotion of the album. Sia fired her manager, left Sony Music and signed with Go! Beat Records, a subsidiary of Universal Music Group. The album was recorded in 2003 at Heliocentric Studios in Rye with Jimmy Hogarth producing. Sia credits the biggest influence on her new album as touring with Zero 7.

Breathe Me

"Breathe Me" is a 2004 single by Australian singer Sia Furler featured on the album Colour the Small One. The single has sold over 1.2 million copies in the United States.

Critical reception

Rolling Stone called the song "delicate and haunting".

Charts

In the United Kingdom, "Breathe Me" peaked at number 71 on 1 May 2004. The single also reached number 19 in Denmark in 2011 and number 81 in France in 2012. In the United States, the track charted at number 24 on the Rock Digital Songs, a component chart on the Billboard magazine.
