Varzob is a settlement which located 25 km to north from Dushanbe, Tajikistan, in the Region of Republican Subordination, Varzob district. Varzob is a capital of the Varzob district.
There are seven rivers in the area: Varzob, Simiganj, Sioma, Seer, Vakhsh, Amoo, Sorhob.

Dushanbe (Tajik: Душанбе, Dushanbe, Dyushambe until 1929; Stalinabad, Tajik: Сталинабад until 1961), population 679,400 people (2008 est.), is the capital and largest city of Tajikistan. Dushanbe means "Monday" in Tajik, and the name reflects the fact that the city grew on the site of a village that originally was a popular Monday marketplace.
Situated at the confluence of two rivers, Varzob and Kofarnihon, Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan. Although archaeological remnants dating to the 5th century BC have been discovered in the area, there is little to suggest that Dushanbe was more than a small village until the early 20th century. In 1920, the last Emir of Bukhara briefly took refuge in Dushanbe (then called Dyushambe) after being overthrown by the Bolshevik revolution. He fled to Afghanistan after the Red Army conquered the area the next year.
Dushanbe, which means "Monday" in Persian, (فارسی), developed on the site of a Monday marketplace village, Dyushambe-Bozor, and its former name Dyushambe was a Russified version of the word meaning "Monday" in Persian (du-shanbe from du two + shanbe Saturday, lit. "second day after Saturday"). Following the Red Army victory in Central Asia the village was upgraded to town in 1925 and made the capital of the newly created Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (Tajik ASSR). After the transformation of Tajik ASSR to Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic (Tajik SSR) in 1929, Dyushambe was renamed Stalinabad, after Joseph Stalin. As part of Nikita Khrushchev's de-Stalinization initiative, the city was renamed Dushanbe in 1961.

Hissar fortress 30km outside of city – the remains of an 18th century fortress, occupied until 1924 is located in 30 km west of Dushanbe. In the way excursion on fortress Hulbuk - The ancient fortress and site of ancient settlement of Hulbuk is in Vose district of Hatlon region in settlement Kurbonshaid. The huge territory in IX century between Vahshem and Pjandzhem was occupied with area of Huttal. During the most ancient period of the history of Huttal was a part of Bactria. Anybody from medieval geographers doesn't give exact geographical border of Huttal. The city of Hulbuk which has "disappeared" for any reasons after XII century was area capital at that time. Long-term archeological excavations and researches have confirmed, what exactly on this hill, in center Hulbuk, and the palace of the local governor settled down. Originally walls and ceilings have been ornated by a carving on alabaster, wall painting in the form of images of soldiers, musicians and musical instruments

Drive to Kalai Hum. This region is much more strongly Muslim and this can be seen in the conservative dress and beards. Over a mountain pass to Kalaikhum and the scenery and people change again. Here the people are Pamirs, not Tajiks, a number of separate tribal groups with their own languages. Overnight in guesthouse.

At morning meeting with group for excursion to Hissar Fortress. Located outside of Dushanbe (27 km. to West from Dushanbe), the Hissar Fortress houses the remains of the palace of Ibragimbek-Khan, belong of Bukhara Emirate. Its thick walls once guarded a pool, garden, and palace, while the fortress itself opposed a noisy market and caravanserai. What remains today is a portion of the wall and the gate towers, which are representative of the 18th and 19th century style, then drive back to Dushanbe. After lunch visit Tajikistan State Museum. The Museum includes natural history exhibits, Tajik costumes, and a mock-up of a Tajik house. With highlights - biggest statue of “Relaxing Buddha”. Ethnographic part of Museum showcases traditional Tajik crafts, including ceramics, embroidered fabrics, woodcarving and jewelry.

What remains today is a portion of the wall and the gate towers, which are representative of the 18th and 19th century style, then drive back to Dushanbe. After lunch visit Tajikistan State Museum. The Museum includes natural history exhibits, Tajik costumes, and a mock-up of a Tajik house. With highlights - biggest statue of “Relaxing Buddha”. Ethnographic part of Museum showcases traditional Tajik crafts, including ceramics, embroidered fabrics, woodcarving and jewelry.

At the morning drive via Kurgan-Teppa city and Ajinateppa, the excavations the Buddha in Nirvana found in 1966 in one of the monastery corridors. Today the sculpture of Budda is exhibited at the National Museum of Antiquities of Tajikistan in Dushanbe. That is the one of biggest sculpture of the Buddha found on the territory of modern Central Asia. Drive back to Dushanbe by road via Dangara and Nurek hydro Power Station and Nurek water reservation . Overnight hotel. Hotel "Lotus" 4*

Drive through picturesque scenery of Varzob and Fon-Daro valleys and Anzob pass (3200 m) to Lake Iskanderkul (Alexander Great Lake) – the heart and purl of the Fan Mountains. After lunch stroll around the lake, visiting 50m high waterfall (located 2 km to the North from lake) and Snake Lake. O\N Tourist bungalow.

After breakfast drive through picturesque scenery l along Fon-Dario valley via Aini city, to the Penjikent, ancien Sogdian and Zoroastrian town of Penjikent with its 5th century ruins called “Asian Pompeii”. After visit on “Sarhazm” 4500 year old excavation and Museum of Rudaki name. Overnight - hotel "Penjikent" or Guesthouse "Maksud"
