1. The total land area of Tajikistan is 143,100 square kilometres. That’s slightly larger than England. Tajikistan’s population was 8.2 million in 2013. That’s around the same population as London!
2. In the small Asian nation of Tajikistan, the unibrow is considered a highly attractive feature. If you are unfortunately born without a unibrow, you can paint it on daily to become more attractive. For women, it is associated with virginity and purity and, in men, virility. If there is no unibrow present, or if it is weak, it is commonplace for women to use a kohl liner or a modern kajal pen to simulate a unibrow.
3. Country’s dictator, Emomali Rahmon, was filmed singing drunk at his son’s wedding in 2013. The clip was posted on YouTube. In response, he banned YouTube from the country for 3 weeks. Rahmon is now serving his fourth term as president, but he doesn’t seem to have had enough. Since 1994 he survived an assassination attempt, 2 attempted coups and a civil war that claimed the lives of some 100,000 people.
4. The Tajiks, whose language is nearly identical with Persian, were part of the ancient Persian Empire that was ruled by Darius I and later conquered by Alexander the Great (333 BC).In the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabs conquered the region and brought Islam. The Tajiks were successively ruled by Uzbeks and then Afghans until claimed by Russia in the 1860s. In 1924, Tajikistan was consolidated into a newly formed Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
5. Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan and it has a population of 778,500. If you pay a visit, the main sights are the Tajikistan National Museum, Dushanbe Zoo and the Dushanbe Flagpole (it’s the second tallest freestanding flagpole in the world at 165m). Dushanbe means Monday in Tajik language.
6. One of the world's highest mountain ranges Pamir and Altai cross Tajikistan. Hundreds of canyons split the mountains and on the bottom of them there are flowing rivers, which merge into river valleys, where the majority of the population lives. Almost half of the Central Asian waters flow from the mountains of Tajikistan.
7. The civil war in Tajikistan started in 1992 and continued till 1997. The protesters were against the presidential elections and demanded fair representation in the country. In the month of June 26, 1997, the two sides came to a treaty and a peace accordance was signed, thus ceasing the war.

"On the Road to Tajikistan", presented by Old Grey Goose International is a traditional musical travelog of the band's tour to the Central Asian country and performing at Tajikistan's first international folk festival held in their capital of Dushanbe. Scenes include performers many countries including India, Iran, Russia, Azerbiajan, Uzbekistan, Germany, and Tajikistan. Aspects of the band's philosophy includes collaborations with musicans and dancers both formally and informally as well as outreach concerts in schools and orphanages. A Tajik traditional musical instrument museum is visited, local markets, and various excursions throughout the country are presented. This was part of a cultural exchange program sponsored by the U.S. State Dept. and is one of many similar tours the band has done over the last dozen years. When this tour was made in 2005 Tajikistan had just opened up to allow foreign visitors and the band was the fist American musical group to visit the former Soviet Union Islamic country. Band members Doug Protsik, fiddle; John Gawler, banjo, Jeff Mckeen accordion, guitar; Bau Graves, guitar, mandolin. Filmed, edited and uploaded by Doug Portsik.

Tajikistan (
i/tɑːˈdʒiːkᵻstɑːn/, /təˈdʒiːkᵻstæn/, or /tæˈdʒiːkiːstæn/; Тоҷикистон [tɔd͡ʒikɪsˈtɔn]), officially the Republic of Tajikistan (Tajik: Ҷумҳурии Тоҷикистон, Çumhuriji Toçikiston/Jumhuriyi Tojikiston; Russian: Респу́блика Таджикистан, Respublika Tadzhikistan), is a mountainous landlocked sovereign country in Central Asia. With an estimated 8 million people in 2013, it is the 98th most populous country and with an area of 143,100 km2 (55,300 sq mi), it is the 96th largest country in the world. It is bordered by Afghanistan to the south, Uzbekistan to the west, Kyrgyzstan to the north, and China to the east. Pakistan lies to the south separated by the narrow Wakhan Corridor. Traditional homelands of Tajik people included present-day Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan.
The territory that now constitutes Tajikistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the city of Sarazm of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including the Oxus civilization, Andronovo culture, Buddhism, Nestorian Christianity, Zoroastrianism, and Manichaeism. The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Achaemenid Empire, Sassanian Empire, Hephthalite Empire, Samanid Empire, Mongol Empire, Timurid dynasty, and the Russian Empire. As a result of the breakup of the Soviet Union, Tajikistan became an independent nation in 1991. A civil war was fought almost immediately after independence, lasting from 1992 to 1997. Since the end of the war, newly established political stability and foreign aid have allowed the country's economy to grow.

"On the Road to Tajikistan", presented by Old Grey Goose International is a traditional musical travelog of the band's tour to the Central Asian country and performing at Tajikistan's first international folk festival held in their capital of Dushanbe. 1. The total land area of Tajikistan is 143,100 square kilometres. That’s slightly larger than England. Tajikistan’s population was 8.2 million in 2013. That’s around the same population as London!
2. In the small Asian nation of Tajikistan, the unibrow is considered a highly attractive feature. If you are unfortunately born without a unibrow, you can paint it on daily to become more attractive. For women, it is associated with virginity and purity and, in men, virility. If there is no unibrow present, or if it is weak, it is commonplace for women to use a kohl liner or a modern kajal pen to simulate a unibrow.
3. Country’s dictator, Emomali Rahmon, was filmed singing drunk at his son’s wedding in 2013. The clip was posted on YouTube. In response, he banned YouTube from the country for 3 weeks. Rahmon is now serving his fourth term as president, but he doesn’t seem to have had enough. Since 1994 he survived an assassination attempt, 2 attempted coups and a civil war that claimed the lives of some 100,000 people.
4. The Tajiks, whose language is nearly identical with Persian, were part of the ancient Persian Empire that was ruled by Darius I and later conquered by Alexander the Great (333 BC).In the 7th and 8th centuries, Arabs conquered the region and brought Islam. The Tajiks were successively ruled by Uzbeks and then Afghans until claimed by Russia in the 1860s. In 1924, Tajikistan was consolidated into a newly formed Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.
5. Dushanbe is the capital of Tajikistan and it has a population of 778,500. If you pay a visit, the main sights are the Tajikistan National Museum, Dushanbe Zoo and the Dushanbe Flagpole (it’s the second tallest freestanding flagpole in the world at 165m). Dushanbe means Monday in Tajik language.
6. One of the world's highest mountain ranges Pamir and Altai cross Tajikistan. Hundreds of canyons split the mountains and on the bottom of them there are flowing rivers, which merge into river valleys, where the majority of the population lives. Almost half of the Central Asian waters flow from the mountains of Tajikistan.
7. The civil war in Tajikistan started in 1992 and continued till 1997. The protesters were against the presidential elections and demanded fair representation in the country. In the month of June 26, 1997, the two sides came to a treaty and a peace accordance was signed, thus ceasing the war.

The incident occurred in the Khatlon region in the South-West of the country (the administrative center of the region is the city of Kurgan-Tyube). Exploded filling stations with liquefied gas. The explosion itself was recorded on video. He was such force that part of the iron tank from under the gas flew about 500 metres. After the explosion started a large fire. -

This is the dramatic moment an enormous explosion burst out of a Tajikistan petrol station killing one person and injuring at least 17 others.
Powerful mobile phone footage from the southern Khatlon province captured the moment the huge ball of fire exploded out of the building.
While the cameraman initially stands his ground as he films the terrifying sight he soon joins the others as they run screaming away from the flames.

The blast occurred so forcefully that part of an iron tank from was hurled about 500m away from the station and comes to a rest near the frightened crowd gathered around the filmer.
It is believed the explosion occurred inadvertently when a tank truck poured liquefied fuel into the station’s gas storage, but this is still under investigation.
As reported by local news source Asia-Plus, an official source at the fire department said that according to the preliminary investigation the explosion was caused by violation of fire safety regulations.
The windows of nearby buildings were blown out in the blast and two cars were damaged.
The blast occurred so forcefully that part of an iron tank from was hurled about 500m away from the station and comes to a rest near the frightened crowd gathered around the filmer
The fire that followed the explosion allegedly burnt the whole station down.
Latest figures say one person died in the explosion and 17 were injured, three of whom were seriously hurt.
