Heysel Stadium disaster In European Cup final game between Liverpool v/s Juventus riots erupted allegedly when Liverpool fans rushed to the wall to climb and reach the other way where Juventus fans were. Juventus fans ran back on the terraces and away from the threat into a concrete retaining wall. Fans already seated near the wall were crushed; eventually the wall collapsed. 9. Bradford City Fire Disaster In the match between Bradford and Lincoln City, a small fire was reported by TV the commentator. But in less than four minutes, in windy conditions, it had engulfed the whole stand, trapping some people in their seats. Because of the wooden structure of the stadium, it got into flames which led to big disaster. In the panic that ensued, fleeing crowds had to break down locked exits to escape. 8. The Second Ibrox disaster At a game between Rangers v/s Celtic, the Celtic took a 1--0 lead, when the game was tied 0-0 after 89 minutes and many Rangers supporters left the stadium. As the crowds were leaving the ground, barriers on Stairway gave way causing a massive chain-reaction pile-up of spectators. Most of the deaths were caused by compressive asphyxia, with bodies being stacked as deep as six feet in the area 7. The Luzhniki disaster The Luzhniki disaster took place at the Grand Sports Arena of the Central Lenin Stadium in Moscow, Soviet Union during the UEFA Cup second round match between FC Spartak Moscow and HFC Haarlem. The match was about to finish when people started rushing for exit. A few falls which result in many people came under the pile of people coming from above and 66 people had to lose their lives. 6. Puerta 12 Tragedy The disaster occurred after a match between River Plate vs the Boca Juniors. Some claim that the disaster happened after Boca Juniors fans threw burning River flags from the upper tiers of the stadium, causing a stampede of their own fans in the lower tier. Others claim that it happened after River fans arrived at the Boca section, causing the stampede of the visiting fans. 5. Port Said Stadium Disaster A massive riot occurred following an Egyptian premier league football match between Al-Masry and Al Ahly clubs. Thousands of Al-Masry spectators stormed the stadium stands and the pitch, following a 3--1 victory by Al-Masry. Al-Masry fans violently attacked Al-Ahly fans using knives, swords, clubs, stones, bottles, and fireworks as weapons. 4. The Guatemala Disaster This incident occurred minutes before a 1998 FIFA World Cup qualification match between Guatemala and Costa Rica was to take place as an excessive number of fans attempted to enter the General Sur section. It created a human avalanche into the bottom of the stands, which was separated from the field by a fence. The improper design of the building in the event of an emergency caused the fans to stampede and fall onto each other, causing many people to suffocate. 3. The Hillsborough Disaster During the FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest football clubs, a human crush resulted in the deaths of 96 people and injuries to 766 others. The incident has since been blamed primarily on the police. 2. Accra Sports Stadium Disaster It occurred during a match between Accra Hearts of Oak Sporting Club and Asante Kotoko. The home side scored two late goals to defeat Kotoko 2--1 which led to disappointed Kotoko fans throwing plastic seats and bottles onto the pitch. The response to this crowd disturbance from the police was to fire tear gas into the crowd massive of 70,000. Panic ensued and a resulting stampede led to the deaths from compressive asphyxia. 1. The National Stadium Disaster The Lima disaster is the worst soccer disaster in the history of the sport. It was an Olympic qualifying match, between Peru and Argentina, held at the National Stadium in Lima. With Argentina leading 1--0 and two minutes of normal time remaining, a would-be equalizing goal by Peru was disallowed by referee, sparking protests from the fans.
